i've been trying to think of something other than the usual bench seats or wood slabs between clock works.
i'm about to set out my books, and i've got hundreds. i dont want to triple my lockdowns just for spacing. i haven't figured it out - when i do, i'll post again.
I got something for you! Going along the theme of breaking up add-ons that you're so fond of, and the only lockdowns it uses are the runebooks themselves.
Elven loveseat (south):
The first stack on the left are made by place two goza mats next to each other then raising them by 2, placing a loveseat, raising the gozas by 2, placing a loveseat, etc. You can get 7 books on a tile this way. If you don't need to save on space you can do the second example, which is place two gozas and raise by 3, place the loveseat, raise gozas by 3, place the loveseat, etc.
Now there is a space on the very bottom for a spare loveseat (on either side), this is necessary so you can plop down the runebooks on the left hand side. So put down 2 runebooks (for left left set) and raise them 13 times on each side, the second pair get raised 11, the third get raised 9, all the way down to the last pair getting raised by 1. When you place the last loveseat on the ground it will knock the east part of the loveseat above it down two times, so use your dec tool to raise it back up.
For the right stack you would put down a pair of books and raise them 13 times, the next 2 get raised 10, the next pair get raised 7, then 4, then 1.
A broken elven loveseat (south):
Too bad these loveseats aren't three tiles long, the middle bit would have great potential as a bench piece for a really long bench!
Here I did a full loveseat column, a west-side half column, and another full for when you have an odd number of column tiles:
A broken east loveseat:
Runebooks do not sit well on the east loveseats and don't show, so thats a bit of a drawback.
Loveseats can be made from special woods so they can be all the special wood colors, and can be ToT dyed *if* made from special woods and have never been placed and redeeded before. A bunch of red dyed runebooks wedged between some shadow ToT dyed benches could look pretty sharp!
Remember, custom house owners! Lock down both sides of the loveseats before you go into customize mode or they'll go in the house moving crate.
