Ideas for general house deco or ideas for displaying the books?

As for the "look in the deco examples...thread", there is a single rune library listed in there and it wasn't even completed when the pic was posted.

i've seen some pic's where they've lowered the bookcases from one floor, down to stack on the bookcases on the floor below. it's looks stunning.
i think it was sarsmi who stacked gems in the cases, to look like books going up and down, rather than the usual book graphic where they're laying flat.
take a look around the site, there's stuff everywhere that will light ideas.
be sure to post a pic when you're done!

are we talking rune library, or regular book library .. and either way how much room are you talking about using for said library ... i have quite a few diff rune library pics, but not sure what ones would help you as some comprise whole houses, while some are simply rooms ...

either way i will sort through my old comp for libby pics to toss up, in hopes something will inspire you ;-) (may take a day or two though :D)

For that space I guess bench seats and rune books.

i've been trying to think of something other than the usual bench seats or wood slabs between clock works.
i'm about to set out my books, and i've got hundreds. i dont want to triple my lockdowns just for spacing. i haven't figured it out - when i do, i'll post again.

I got something for you! Going along the theme of breaking up add-ons that you're so fond of, and the only lockdowns it uses are the runebooks themselves. :)

Elven loveseat (south):

The first stack on the left are made by place two goza mats next to each other then raising them by 2, placing a loveseat, raising the gozas by 2, placing a loveseat, etc. You can get 7 books on a tile this way. If you don't need to save on space you can do the second example, which is place two gozas and raise by 3, place the loveseat, raise gozas by 3, place the loveseat, etc.

Now there is a space on the very bottom for a spare loveseat (on either side), this is necessary so you can plop down the runebooks on the left hand side. So put down 2 runebooks (for left left set) and raise them 13 times on each side, the second pair get raised 11, the third get raised 9, all the way down to the last pair getting raised by 1. When you place the last loveseat on the ground it will knock the east part of the loveseat above it down two times, so use your dec tool to raise it back up.

For the right stack you would put down a pair of books and raise them 13 times, the next 2 get raised 10, the next pair get raised 7, then 4, then 1.

A broken elven loveseat (south):

Too bad these loveseats aren't three tiles long, the middle bit would have great potential as a bench piece for a really long bench!

Here I did a full loveseat column, a west-side half column, and another full for when you have an odd number of column tiles:

A broken east loveseat:

Runebooks do not sit well on the east loveseats and don't show, so thats a bit of a drawback.

Loveseats can be made from special woods so they can be all the special wood colors, and can be ToT dyed *if* made from special woods and have never been placed and redeeded before. A bunch of red dyed runebooks wedged between some shadow ToT dyed benches could look pretty sharp!

Remember, custom house owners! Lock down both sides of the loveseats before you go into customize mode or they'll go in the house moving crate.

that looks great, Sarsmi! as well as help with lock downs.
i did come up with an idea last night, as well. so, i'll try both and see what they look like! :D

my library is east facing, so the love seats didn't work.
this was my idea, modified, from last night. a couple of the bits didn't work, so it boiled down to this.

it doesn't help my lock downs at all, but it does give a more airy feeling then benches, and it caters to my use of color whenever possible ;) and people do like their librarys color coded, to help find things.

this is just a mock up - 'does it work' thing. going to actually get it organized when i get all 5 crates of books in one place lol

I'd be happy to show you my library on Origin. If you want to stop by and take a peek, it's in Makoto, along the Southern wall bordering town. It's an 18x18 custom sandstone. =)

Latobian's library is worth touring. The first time I saw it I just had to take screenshots. :)

If you don't need to show the books you could place bookshelves... even stacked 2 stories high my bookshelves are accessible from the floor and you could then lay runebooks inside the locked-down (not secured) shelves so that people could view and use but not take the books.

I like Sarsmi's idea, it makes neat shelves!

Desperado,

Her library is great isn't it? I feel like saying "shh" when I go there.:D

If Latobian doesn't mind, I would gladly post pics of her place, but I don't have access to the server currently. Maybe she'll pop in here and post a couple.

It's a very nice design and works well for a library setting, in my opinion. Definitely picked up a few ideas I'm going to try to work into my place if I can get them to work out right. I have some fairly large sets that have to stay together tightly, so I'm not sure I can work it out right or not, but definitely going to try.
