"But it’s still worth romping around in," notes the article.

It's a good read should anyone be interested in having a look!

Article.

Is this the kind of advertising you guys are looking for?

Interesting. And whilst its not exactly a glowing review it isnt bad and may tempt one or two to give it a go...

Great article, very well said. Ultima is the star wars of MMOs; it's old, the graphics arent the best, but it defined the genre and has yet to be surpassed. And maybe if it was marketed as such, we would be more popular. Ea should market the nostalgia of it all, draw former players of both the mmo version and the original single-player version by reminding them of the good old days. Remind them, too, of the things they can't get anywhere else. The housing system, for instance, which to my knowledge is unique to ultima (except maybe for dark fall).

As has been said before on these boards, we suffer from a lack of attention. But uo is still the best one out there.

a good read and mainly favorable review. obviously he didnt stick around long enough to note the automated helpers that are a crutch to players but meh.

i really think, when i see this game in the present day that it is a retro experience graphics wise. as such i really think the dev's should give up on the ec and dance with the girl that brung you so to speak.

a shard merge is probably something else that needs to be done if it can be accomplished in a way that house holders on those shards are compensated to move to the higher populated shards and have a chance to place desireable housing. (housing in t2a anyone?)

the beauty of the game is that it is largely player controlled. if theres anything else on the market quite like it i'm not sure i have seen it.

Shard Consolidation

As a long time player and owner of 20+ houses across 5 shards I would be willing to give up my locations and plots for a consolidated house on a consolidated highly populated shard. For example take the total plot size or storage capabilities and offer me a comparable house and im in ---- yes i would like to be compensated for losing my prime vendor locations in Luna but with the increased population vendors outside of luna will once again be viable. and with the chance to play again on a highly populated shard would be pleasurable

They will probably never merge shards, or even the non-housing facets with other shards. That's the vibes I get from past Q&A interviews. What a pity.

Interesting article though, thanks.

Why would they risk pissing off a bunch of current players?

They have the right idea - if you want a populated shard, move to a populated shard. This idea of forcing players on to certain shards is very counter-productive - UO isn't Warhammer and isn't driven by how many players are fighting it out.

The article was pretty interesting.

Wrost part of that article is the comments saying how stuff has changed and "I'd" never play it now...stuff happens but it's still the last MMORPG I'll ever play.

This is every article that mentions Ultima Online, and UO is actually mentioned quite often in MMO-related articles, more often than people think.

The top complaints are usually, in no particular order:
Graphics
They nerfed my class (whatever class that was)
Trammel
AOS

And sometimes they throw in scripting/cheating, although those are problems elsewhere as well.

The comments are incredibly predictable when an article is about UO or mentions UO. And sometimes when somebody rails about Tram or AOS, they follow it up with a "go search for this free shard that is pre-Tram or pre-AOS" comment.
