I think I understand now. You have been jumping up and down saying UO can make a retro shard. When someone gives you a reason it wont happen a certain way, you just keep stomping and yelling the same thing because you do not care how it is done.

OK. Somebody can make a game similar to UO with UO "rules" that predate AoS. I agree with you.

It just wont be sponsored by EA. I would rather them turn The Sims Online back on! That reminds me, EA does not like failures associated with their long lived products. When they stop making money or get bad publicity, they change the name of the game turn them off. EA will not spend extra resources on a game like UO. An attempt on a retro server or combining servers would mean UO is on its last leg.

EA could make anything happen if it made them enough coin, that's the bottom line. It is simple business - they would not get a return on their investment with the current state of the game making any major changes.

This game does not have the subscribers it once had, its hard to attract new blood to a game that is 20 years old looking the way it does. Even through new content has been added over the years, they have never finetuned the previous issues/bugs.
The EC is horrendous looking, looks like all other generic poor man games out there. (But is does have cool features)
The CC could have been upgraded/reworked to a more HD version, its such a unique look and game style.

Whether or not old code, new code, any code works - I will leave that up to you all to squabble about. I don't pretend to be a computer buff, I work in construction.
But what I will say - there are people out there running different versions of this game on a much smaller budget that the current team UO have and can make it look real good. Unfortunately its always the old player style that kills off these servers with the same c*cks harassing/grief and ruining it for the majority.

The day someone can find a way that PVP and PVM can play on the same server/facet in a way everyone is enjoying their game style of play this game will be a real winner.

@Lore yes I agree that we do get a lot of excuses and sometimes they could do stuff but they don't want to bother. I think the problem here is that even if they COULD make a retro server they simply won't make one because they don't want to. Everyone wants a different era, with the two main choices being pre-AoS and pre-Trammel, so right off the bat they would annoy one group of people. Personally I would love a pre-AoS world. Yes they could make a 'free-shard' type UO world of any era, but they just don't have the people,resources or inclination to want to do that. Given how hard it is to make changes to anything around here without breaking something else I think maybe we should just leave things alone. The bottom line is that they barely have enough people to maintain the game as it is with some seasonal content thrown in, but we should be careful what we wish for, look at the t-hunt 'revamp'. I'm sure they could have spent that time on a lot of more worthwhile things, like bugs that have been around forever. If they had done that instead of messing with t-hunting my husband and I wouldn't have cancelled our subs.

It can right now. If there were enough PvP to fight over a spawn/area and have fun. The PvM would be able to do other spawns. Most PvP is on Atlantic. Most shards have a Single player that logs in a few times a year and kills tamers at Rikki or Rat. I love chat on a busy server.

Casual PvP works great in games where a roundtrip fight-death-fight is only a couple of seconds and you don't lose the loot you worked the last hour for. I love jumping in all nilly willy, kill some guys, die, rinse repeat.

UO does not have a casual PvP experience these days. Round trip after getting killed is like 10 minutes (finding a healer, recovering corpse, restocking potions, etc.). Plus most PvP you expereince is a 1 minute gank *after* you did some spawn for half an hour.

To me its pretty clear why UO PvP is only a thing among hardcore PvPers but nothing a casual player has any interest in.

Once upon a time, I used to really enjoy RP PvP... which had a purpose and was fun... no looting and everyone just did it for the fun. Generally arresting some "evildoer" or the occasional orc who was pestering people at Skara Brae Bank... Was often a lot of fun. But that was ages ago and most of those people have left UO... Sadly.

Isn't really any of that anymore... and most PvP is by as put hardcore PvPers who often use every advantage legal or otherwise... and then the spawn gank squads who have all the ghost cams who lie in wait for you to be nearly done and seriously engaged with the boss to come kill you when your health is low in 1 whack and they claim they are awesome PvPers when all they are is cheap gankers... who couldn't fight in a real fight with a real opponent... they are just lazy thieves out for what you worked hard for. They get a thrill off ruining gameplay of others... antisocial is what they are. Wait till someone is low on health and 1 shot them from stealth... and gloat about their prowess...
