This thought was provoked by the 'useless skills' thread. With so much emphasis placed by some on 'uber loot' and 'profit', what have you done that did not involve either? Just for fun? Here are some of the things I've done:

I herded left over Oaks spawn across Lost Lands to Delucia or Papua (4 - 5 creatures).
I herded left over Rikktor spawn across Lost Lands to Minoc entrance (3 drakes).
I stealth herded a small group of rabbits around a guild of Champ hunters near the bank in Delucia.
I charmed an ogre lord in Despise, gated it to Skara Brae, backspaced the 'lord' from its name then stealthed with it following me to Yew Gate, Felucca and watched the surprise when 'an ogre' didn't die to the first fireball (4 players then ganked it).
I charmed a savage rider, gated it to Yew, Fel and then stealthed to the gate where I watched a player attempt to have a conversation with it.

I never left the creatures I herded in a bunch, and the responses I usually got via icq/irc were laughter from those who encountered my 'surprises'.

So what have you done just for fun?

Try using a cloak of corruption on your stealth herder. Everything, even npcs, will follow you.

Will need to add spellweaving to my stealth herder. Thanks for the tip!

With spellweaving, stealth and herding you can do stuff like this:

Farmer Fred takes his cows to WBB.

I planted a Halloween themed garden in the Magincia Garden and am now planting a Christmas garden. This one is going to be pretty when it's done. Another player, TOBY, asked if he could plant some things so now there are two of us doing it.

Recently I was stealthing in Luna with my dragon in tow. A few people I know were on the steps talking and I got underneath my dragon and started talking to one of the old time players. I'd say a line then hide real quick. It looked like the dragon was talking to him and he really thought that was the case. His responses were cracking me up. He just couldn't believe that there was a talking dragon. A few of the other players knew what was going on and played along. Eventually I outed myself and he cracked up. He shares this story often with others about how he was had.

Like I said in that other thread... Herding has its uses. Petra I love what you have done, maybe its time to make a stealth herder....

Reminds me of years ago on GL before Tram 2 herders decided they were going to 'take down' the reds that use to hang out at the south glow gate entrance to town. The 2 herders rounded up 100 or so sheep and proceeded to the gate. You couldn't move through them there were so many! It was pretty fun until....

Well in addition to 'taking down' the reds they also ended up crashing the server. Needless to say they were sternly spoken to by the Great Red Robes.

12 years later they still get that glint in the eye when they tell the story. No names are mentioned to protect the guilty.

These are the things why UO is so great - no other game is such silliness possible.

This is also the reason I'm going to take a character slot and use it to make a herder with archery and probably a couple other "useless" skills and have some fun as a ranger type

Hehe thank you Petra. That remined me of the times when seers use to bring to the banks tons of farm animals. The players had so much fun picking them off and getting leather, wool and meat that it was requested alot! You never knew when a flock of chickens would invade Brit bank or a pack of bunnys. Cows goats sheep... loved it.

Might want to consider a melee weapon, shadowstrike is a handy weapon special if you get revealed by hostile critters as you instantly hide when you autodefend. Stealth herding a gaggle of greater dragons is very hazardous to your health. Having the shadowstrike weapon special pre-toggled can be a life saver to the more adventurous stealth herder.

Herded critters can still aggro on you unlike tamed ones.

Since you need a shepherd's crooks to herd, macing would be a logical choice. A club would be your weapon. Also you won't need tactics, only 80 stealth to successful execute the weapon special; though if you are stealth herding I recommend as much stealth as you can fit.

Ninjitsu is handy for animal form and shadow jump if you plan to stealth herd in fel, as your herd can pin you in a corner.

I need to add a ton of hit point and stam regen to my herder.

Curlybeard I wasn't necessarily planning on it being able to run around with GD's more a ranger type hunting the smaller animals and living off the land

I once herded all the animals on Ice Island to the southern tip... Just because I could.

I have herded all the oaks kirins off to take care of one of the other champ spawn... but it was slow and tiring decided not to do that again.

I once tamed about 120 Unicorns and put them all in the sheep pen in Yew.

I sometimes visit other shards as a "rabbit"(Using ninjitsu).... and just hop about sniffing things and munching leaves.

I've had a GM Forensic's character for many years just so I could have the Investigator title, I thought it was cool.

I enjoy using begging anywhere... just for the RP.

Taking someone with GM detect hidden to Luna is fun sometimes... It's also fun at Yew Gate.

I took one character with GM herding and GM ninjitsu so I could take a Unicorn and talk with it... as a unicorn.

Sometimes it's more entertaining to go to another shard as a ghost...
Just to see how folk react.

Lol Malag love the rabbit RP thing. I once wandered into a tavern polymorphed as a wolf and ended up having the tavern owner RP'ing with me - petting me and giving me food etc

Your list of things sounds like alot of fun though

One of the things I like to do for fun with my Siege character is sneak into people's houses that are public and 'steal' half made bolts of cloth off their looms heh, I set off with around 100 spools and see how much extra I come back with after a 'raid' LOL. I have done this for years and I have absolutely NO idea why I enjoy doing it.

I've mooched about on Siege for years with my girl, there has been only one person who has ever met her/me, he jumped me outside Minoc and I gave him a right good crack back with auto - attack, she'd become well trained over the years and is quite a good little fighter, he ran off, healed up, came back and thrashed me lol, was a gentleman about it too, cheeky bugger nicked me spools though .

Not herded. You can't herd through a gate or entrance, only taming allows that.

Never ever made a penny of profit in the old storm the keep clashes, or nights and nights of guild dueling to the death on the roof of our guilds tower.

I would also not count as profitable trying to train horse mounts to four x GM, and I never sold any of my matched color armor suits, but it was fun to collect.

Story nights, and hours of RP interaction and games with other guilds.

Ive never had a herder....hmmmm.

A friend decided to drop a gate right in the path of one of those macroed-guys who auto-drops books everywhere. The guy walked straight into the gate and wound up inside a fenced pumpkin field with a bunch of activated Killer Pumpkins.

I once filled Magic Island with rats which blocked the recall spots of all the PKs trying to recall to their houses there. They had to take a ship to get to the Island but, on arrival, caught me there but got stuck in the rat packs trying to get near enough to kill me. I got on my ship and sailed away.

Silly pet dungeon runs - No tamer pets permitted. In this old screenie, there's my giant rat, Basil, a white squirrel, a black sheep, some mongbats, and a changling dog. Just grab a group, each with the bonded silly pet of choice, take lots of bandies & enough veterinary skill to res pets consistently, and choose your dungeon. This group was fine all the way to Ogre Lords!

Cow-tipping contests used to be regularly held by Leto at a well known auction house on Europa. Tamer or not, I never won, not that winning was ever really the point. I was usually laughing too hard and trying desperately to count my cow tips!

Nico the cow tipping does still take place after the auction. I went to the most recent one and had an absolute blast

I have a "blind" tamer who has 3 dogs... they follow her everywhere. They are almost fully trained to 4x 100... they can take all sorts of monsters.

I've had them fighting ogres, trolls, lizardmen, orcs of all sizes, ettins, and even reapers, corpsers and gargoyles.

It's really kinda fun just to see what they can do.

Just joined in on a RP in progress at a player made inn on the road from Britain to Despise. Was a good hour of just casual RP (though I think the other 2 were a static group), and used up all my dungeon time, heh.

Nice to see how people craft a settlement and build a story for it. Was my first successful RP since joining UO too.

If you want to use a "worthless skill" and make some profit at the same time, go to the Oaks spawn in Ilshenar, work it up to level 2, then Herd as many ki'rins as you can over to the harpy nest. As many feathers as you can carry!
