you might do better on Europa/drachenfels or an asian shard during those hours. drachenfels has a decent english speaking player base, even for them tho those are daytime / downtime hours. If you speak japanse or korean, your in luck thats those shards peak hours.
I was trying them... Didn't find any English speakers yet on the Asian shards. And Europa/Drach/Oceana were pretty dead and the LAG was horrible... I can only manage a 2 step. Don't really see myself being able to do a spawn or much of anything fun while I can hardly walk to the bank. I've considered perhaps using a 3rd party program like lower my ping to be able to play there but I'd rather not.

Europa is the best bet for a European shard. Drachenfels is completely dead.

The game started with like 3 or 4 shards and really at this point if housing was not a problem the game coule be down to like 6 with the player base that we have now. With the expanded lands and a lot of players moving on to other games the existing shards for the most part are pretty quiet. I guess we should still be happy the game still exists but I do miss a lot of players I knew back in its hey day. Although I live in the states I play on Europa and have found it to be a pretty nice shard to play on, and have experianced little if any lag. You might want to give it another try, but keep in mind due to the time differance many of the Europeans might be asleep when you log on to Europa. Good luck.

Server reset is 11 pm your time which is 5 am europa time, so you would see the mourning crowd of Europa players. Perhaps message on the Europa shard of stratcs that your interested in moving to our shard. If your interested in role playing or a larger guild you may want to inquier about that and when they are most active. For the most part the players are nice group of people.

Role-play is always my main drive. I'll look into it.

I returned to the game a couple of months ago, but I play very, very casually -- a few hours a week, maybe -- and across three different shards. Years and years ago, when the anemic population on Great Lakes was really obvious, I transferred to Atlantic. While I had fun there for a month or two, moving my main character to a new world ultimately killed the game for me. The reputation I'd built on GL, the friends, the enemies, the sense of belonging, shard-unique places, memories, all of that was on gone on Atlantic and Zeph was a different character there for it. I regretted the move and left the game for years, bouncing around the MMOsphere and trying to find a game that I could put roots in. After a long chat about "the good old days", I decided to return to UO and move Zeph back to where he belongs, on Great Lakes, in spite of the depleted population. I'm having fun with the game, but only because of a tiny cadre of friends, most of whom are now thinking of leaving for other games again. Even though I have a small circle of pals currently, there are hundreds of other players I've roamed Sosaria with who have left and never returned. We'll all have our final chapter with the game, either by choice or when UO inevitably faces sunset. If you're not having fun, you should go find something that's enjoyable and leave for now.
