(Ok my last rant had a forbidden word so I'm reposting and will watch the sailor talk. If you read the old one, frankly I'm not saying anything new here)

Last night I had a low-key "log in and just power hour my mules" UO day. I logged on with Alex De Large, who was my Beggar/Chef/Alchemist/Scribe, who was a house mule. I decided to pop on over to Minoc Bank to raise my Begging skill (with the possible exception of Poisoning, the most tedious skill to raise in UO). I flub and accidentally teleport to Good Eats Bakery in Britain. Oops.

Well, guess who was there, presumably to get their bread, muffins, bengeies and donuts? A whole gaggle of red brigands. But these were no normal red brigands, no siree. Following the brain-damaged UO idea of what "make a monster challenging," the whole trifecta was here: hitpoints rivalling Zuckenberg's bank account, completely insane damage (the archers can do more damage than Paraxoymous' hits. Are they firing nuclear kryptonite arrows or what??) and of course they move faster than Wally West on a caffeine buzz.

So before I even know what's going on, ol Alex is resting comfortably on the ground. Twas then that I realized I was in my Scribing Suit (Hat of the Magi, Pendant, Rune Beetle Carapace, etc.... mostly cursed items that raise my Mana Regen (so I can scribe quicker). Then it begins to dawn on me that there's no way I can get my items back, since not only do these foolios kill with one hit, they can do it at a distance, so I cant even get close. Luring them away was not possible, and fighting thru them was out of the question. As my corpse turned to bones, I realized I was on the verge of losing a lot of very expensive items.

(An aside -- kind of ironic I was so angry, since compared to the Dread Lord Days -- losing valuable possessions happened all the time back then... this is the first time I was in jeopardy of losing items I could not allow myself to lose in many years in Ultima Online)

So I switch to my ninja. Perhaps I can loot a corpse that belongs to the same account. Not so. But his stealth allowed him to at least reach it. Then by some cut and thrust, mostly related to running like hell and using egg bombs, I pulled them away, recalled back, got Alex, and popped back and retrieved most of my items. I lost my Gloves of Nobility (looted) but given the circumstances, I count myself lucky I only lost that.

Now I know there's a bunch of you in the peanut gallery who are going to say, "Well, look before you leap, foolio. You should have been more careful and you shouldn't have worn cursed items and teleported ANYWHERE."

You may have a point. But here's mine. Well, it's more of a plea.

Devs. Please, please, please STOP with these ******** "invasions." A hallmark of Ultima Online is that cities are sanctuaries that even mules should be relatively safe teleporting into. But not only do you have these really poorly thought out "invasions" that seem to pick cities utterly at random (as opposed to something that would make sense, like a war front capturing cities nearby), you pack them with "challenging" creatures that are designed to be impossible to be taken down solo by most mains, let alone a mule.

And above all else, you guys do this FAR, FAR, FAR, ***FAR*** too often. In the past five years there have been probably over ten of these stupid "enemies just somehow appear in the city and the guards now do nothing but stand around and watch.

Can you really think of nothing better to do? Is the creative team diddling around on Facebook from 8-5, and say, "eh, give em another invasion" every few weeks? Inquiring minds want to know.

Caffine buzz? No Velocett, Synthemes, or Drencrom... That was little Alex's problem, you didn't hit up the Korova Milk Bar to "sharpen up" first!

Sosaria is a dangerous place and when there is a risk for a invasion stay out of these towns. There still plenty of safe towns to go to . (Delucia,Papua,Cove,Serpents Hold,Luna,Umbra, Zento,Ter Mur,Gargoyle City,Nujelm,Haven). :)

I think the town loyalty thing has a lot to do with the invasions going on and on. We were told early on, to pick one town to defend and protect and that doing multiple towns would make us less admired in our home towns. So on Legends in Brit, they've been invaded forever...but I can;'t help do anything about it, cause my loyalty is with Skara. *shrugs* So when all twenty of the Legends players have to choose and defend 8 towns, it just doesnt work out very well

I haven't seen an invasion in Trinsic in weeks... Must be bad timing. No problem for me, since my non-combat char is raising his rep, but still.. Some uneven distribution in invasions.

I'm glad you got most of your scribe's stuff back! For someone who loves words as you do, I would imagine it was quite a blow to realize your in-game "writer" was so vulnerable to losing much of his valuable equipment.

I pretty much moved to Zento for crafter shopping last time the towns were dangerous places and haven't gone back.

When we returned to UO after a hiatus, the same thing happened to my hubby's character. Unaware of the invasion, he innocently teleported to WBB. The auto teleport to a safe place didn't work, and he lost a complete set of Tokuno pigments. Naturally EA never replaced them.

Frankly I am sick of invasions, civil wars, & assassinations. It seems like that whenever the devs need a story arc, Brit gets invaded or a ruler bites the dust.

I buy mage reagents in vesper. Ive been chased away twice by raiders. The town cryers should have the raiding info on them. Ive never heard them tell about a specific town being raided.

Britain on GL is currently overrun with red "city raiders." I recalled into a sea of about 30 of them in a rather small area. Had there not been someone else there with a greater dragon, I would have been toast.

City invasions can be fun, but this arc's is getting a little stale. These things have really sucky loot for the boatload of HPs they have.

The Bane Chosen city invaders had the right amount of HPs. Not too much, not too few to be unchallenging (most times). It's be nice if Mythic remembered what has worked in the past.

Ah, but remember my friend.....People said the same things about the Bane Chosen invaders that they say now. Not enough, too much, too much HP, too little, too little rewards, too many rewards.....Literally the same criticisms are made of every invasion or invasion-like scenario they have had since UO was born, and when the scenario involved something other than an invasion, there were posts saying basically "hey, why isn't there an invasion?" And literally every scenario has had significantly higher participation at the outset, followed by a drop-off until a new thing happens.

RP-wise, people get worn down and injured. OOC-wise, people just get bored and frustrated and/or get stated with what rewards there are, then decide to go on with everyday in-game life until the next phase starts.

Without specific reference to my thoughts on this particular scenario, mind you.....I merely recognize something about how we UO players react to stimuli.

Wait let me get this straight....
You recalled to the wrong location and you died. How is that the invasion's fault?
It is same as accidentally recalling to a dungeon and getting kill. Bottom line is you screwed up.

JFC, lets start blaming the game for everything at this rate

Not the same. Towns generally aren't meant to be death traps. Otherwise, what's the point of having towns as opposed to dungeons?

And I want to know why does Luna keep getting excluded from these half-baked invasions?

Luna has before - it's laggy enough as it is. But it is a mostly enclosed city like Serpents hold. I suppose the same could be said of Umbra, Ter Mur, Mistas, and Ver Lor Reg (central ilsh). To a similar extent, there's Zento, Lakeshire, Nujel'm, Delucia, probably a handful more.

Not being a history buff, I can't relate how some were destined to become virtue cities/dungeons, nor why major happenings/events seem to correspond to the virtue cities first. Simply, because they embody the eight components of the Virtues, much as the [OT] Christian Ten Commandants [/OT] offer the core basics, the Virtues become center of attention, attacked, and violated first?

OK, so you walk into a day care.
You're surrounded by twenty muggers who stab you to death and take your wallet.

You're just as culpable as some dimwit who walked into a dark alley in a crime ridden section of East Saint Louis?

Fact is, the very nature of the day care is that the muggers SHOULDNT BE THERE TO BEGIN WITH.

I'd explain further but looking at how you post, it won't do any good. Your post equates a town to a dungeon which shows me any kind of reasoning with you would be an extremely steep uphill battle.

Interesting, except we all know towns are being invaded right now so using a day care as an example seems off. By your example all towns being invaded should be like the crime ridden dark alley.

My main point is that you recalled on the wrong rune and made a mistake. No need to blame current invasion, you mis-clicked.

My dungeon reference is just an example of recalling and accidently hitting the wrong rune. It is no way trying to equate dungeons to a shop in Brit but a reference to recalling into a spot that got you killed when you did not intend to recall there in the first place.

Bottom line..... would you be making the thread if you did not recall to the wrong spot? I mean reallly

They are only in some of the cities, namely the virtue cities. Cove, Serpents Hold, Nujelm, Haven, Bucs Den and all other facets are safe.

You might have seen the orange barrels all over Brit - at partly VERY strategic areas or points...some may figure they can play a very important role for whats comming up soon....and i am pretty sure it has to do with an invasion...and to all the mules out there, better prepare some runes for other cities or get into laggy luna...at least as long as it is save! I can feel something big is comming up...alot should better stay at home!

RP-wise, wouldn't it make sense that spawn is added later to other non-virtue towns, whether raider or mob? With Guards moved or re-assigned, that's when, as a raider, I'd pillage other towns. Resulting chaos would simply be an open invitation to wandering monsters

Personally, I'm up for a bit of sport with the town idiots. Maybe dust off my mage and gate these crybabies ... straight to the nearest dungeon, or to a jail cell... in the Orc Cave, see how many of the buggers I can pack in one.

It's your game, play it your way.

RP-wise it would make sense that they advance to the other cities, I would actually expect it too. But unfortunately if they were to do that it might not be fair to those who want some way to avoid these invasions.

Well, looks like I was wrong. I was expecting a troll, but you actually amplified your stance without getting nasty. My compliments. I wish more people would take this approach in forum debates.

Was the post a "I got killed and this sucks" whine post? Well, yes, partially. But what I'm arguing here is that these nonsensical invasions are happening too often, and there really should be some areas that are sacred in the game where we are safe. Cove, for instance, by game lore from the get-go, has been disputed and a dangerous place to be around. Fine. But Britain is supposedly the crown jewel captial. Why arent the monsters burning the castle down if they can get in so easily? Why are the NPCs just standing about invunerable? We just have these insanely overpowered monsters exclusively to kill PCs.

When Trinsic was invaded, way back when, it was a fun event. We literally had half the shard conducting the defense against waves and waves on incoming undead. We had folks in the back ressing and making potions, and resupplying the line. Even PKs got into the act (this was before the Ren split of facets) and came to help out. But we actually had a chance to defend against an incoming foe. This "POOF! 10,0000 Bad Guys Overrrunning a Random Town!" BS is just ludicrously stupid and random, in my opinion.

Bottom line..... would you be making the thread if you did not recall to the wrong spot? I mean reallly
No. I guess I wouldn't. Again, it was an accidental click, but my disgust for these invasions isn't diminished.

This whole "monotonously feed fishsteaks to protestors every day for three months to get a piece of house deco" event has been a pile of crap from start to finish. Fact.

The Bane Chosen invasion was way better. At least I actually went out then and actually killed some Meer, so I could feel like part of the bad guys, and get some of those spell focusing sashes to sell. This event? Cripes, who cares? There's no clearly delineated good/evil choice to be made, and only the most obsessive roleplayer has any reason to prefer one empty-ass NPC city over another.

Plus, deco? SNORE. Did they ever remove the asinine loyalty reqs for placing the banners?
