How bout some flashbacks of old stuff no longer around. For exaple .....

I remember when houses had no lockdowns , friend lists or secures. The only way in safely was with your house key and if a thief got it you were screwed.

I remember when Tamers didnt have control slots so you could have as many pets as you wanted. (you think dragons are over powered now? imagine someone with like 10 of them lol)

I remember when monsters used to be able to walk through moongates and people would open gates to the middle of town and chaos would follow.

I remember when the servers would go down for the daily time down and there would be like 5 to 10 minutes of chaos at the Brit. Cemetary. (Chesapeake)

Also a time when stealing was useful and you did not have to have your hands empty to steal.

When I used to keep my neighbors in gold by buying a new set of armor about every 2 days.

When I got the gold for all that armor by selling Deviously Drawn T-maps for 20k each! (omg, I could not believe someone would really pay that much!)

When I could loot my husband's corpse to save his armor while he went and rez'd, and he could do the same for me. (obviously I mean in Tram)

When we did epic battle with an Ancient Wyrm and it took well over an hour and many rez's for us to kill it.

When all houses were public. I met alot of neat people when they would run into our house fleeing from scorpions in the Compassion Desert.

When 2 "Trammies" nearly managed to take out a 5-man gank squad (there were only 2 left, pulling out, when we finially went down) while running to a T2A entrance for the newly-released champ spawns.

I remember when the most common form of housing was a Boat, and needing to use the Harbor Master to Dry Dock your boat. And the hot topic was How there were NO places to put your boat to be Dry Docked. Demanding that all boats be deleted within 30 minutes of not being used. So people could Dry Dock their boats. Then came the abilty to change your boat into a Statuette and Back, the same routines used to allow people to change their pets into statuettes and back, that some how has been lost :(

In Moonglow Harbor on Great Lakes we would watch out for each other and attack anyone we didn't recognize. There were two Water Elementals that liked that Harbor as well and would on occasion get draged in. We would group together and fight them off. This was the first sense of a community I experienced in Ultima Online. Untill I had made and sold enough Wooden Shields and crap to buy that Large house with a Patio, Forge and Anvil.

I can remember taming Dragons in Despise (yes Despise).

I can remember the line up for taming the White Wyrm, on the shelf there were you blocked access via a Body (NPC or PC) OR a wooden box on a stack of gold.

I remember the little enclosure in Destard for taming Dragons, were you could teleport to and as long as you did not damage them they would only use physical attack and of course they could not do that once you were in there. Meaning you could aggro them teleport in and just tame away.

HEY when the heck was that :)

I mean they were predicting UO's Demise when CoB was the place to be. All these guys today are saying the exact same crap they were saying late 99 early 00, basically "IF you dont do what I want, then UO will fold tomorrow"

I remember when there were no bank boxes.

I remember when you escorted (there was no time or escort limit) and they told you ONE time where they were going and that was it. I used to keep a notepad on my computer desk and wrote each escort's name and destination.

I remember when you went through a moongate you didn't know where you might end up. Again I kept a notepad on my computer desk and wrote descriptions of each moongate so I would know where I was.

* There was no such thing as being flagged... You could run around Deceit stealing Vanqs and just had to survive long enough to recall away.

* Dueling naked with a Halberd was the way to prove your skillz.

* When you had to lead with a magic arrow just to remove someone's Magic reflect.

* When Archers with Vanq Bows and Hiding were unbeatable (there was no line of sight check to hiding at the time)

* Ahh... The Bone Wall.. the good ole days... (In deceit)

* There was NO Tram... and such a thing as a NOTO pk existed...

* When having GM skills meant Months of work... 7XGM players numbered in the 1% of the shard population..

I remember when blacksmiths (me included) would hang out at the Brit forge in droves, and there would be a line of people wanting repairs.

I remember leveling blacksmithing using the old gump. What a pain!

I remember my warrior getting his first Ruin Katana and thinking "Cool!"

I remember when people would walk around in metal armor of various colors, just because they liked the way they looked.

I remember when going up against a dragon was damn difficult.

I remember when the skill cap was at 700 , no 720.

I remember when you couldnt lock skills , so if you were at the skill cap skills would drop at random. If you were 7X GM you had to stay away from town or someone starting fires might raise your camping and ruin all your work.

I remember having the Lord or Lady title was a big deal.

Back when magic resist actually made the real difference in how much damage spells did to you.
Training magic resist with summoned deamons and training parry with blade spirits back when they never missed a hit.

Oh, and summoning blade spirits or EV's at Brit bank and running away from the guards!
Calling guards and having like 5 guards for one person, overkill! lol

I remember when the game was fun on 1 facet, there was nothing worth duping but gold, you wore crafted armors.

Magic items were simple to understand. You didnt a special calculator to play.

I remember armor had penalities and benefits.

I am trying to recall the issue, I think I have the pieces.

First off, the "Bank Box" is hard coded to the character and has always been there.

I seem to recall you gave the banker your gold/silver((?) and asked for gold/silver(?) or in short the only transaction you could do with the banker was deposit/withdraw. I have this ghost memory of being weighed down with silver and giving it to the banker and getting gold back to reduce the weight.

I believe it was shortly after the game started that they imlemented the Bank Box Gump (via Bank) that allowed you to place Items in it and withdraw them.

I seem to recall there were numerous issues with stacking items. (as in they wouldn't stack).

Regardless the "Bank Box" is attached to your character as a Bag, just like your primary bag is. It was just hidden initially so you could not interact with it.

I remember when a great form of money for a new player was killing seekers of adventure in moonglow. It would be hard to find them in glow, but you would always see a crowd of people outside of moonglow doing it.

I remember when you could go to bucs den and always find a group of reds, it was a red town then, with a house population.

2. Three words. Wrestle. Anatomy. Theif.
Great old disarm thief, was a great template, was fun to play, loved going up to any warrior, taking that first hit but taking his weapon, then healing and waiting.

I remember when thief's were an actual template. :(

I remember when a macer, would destroy your armor during battle.

I've seen dying MMOs before.. this certainly isn't one. Suffering some, maybe.. but far from dying.

Now if you want an example of one that WAS dying (before it finally closed), go look around for info on Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst. Also the X-Box version of PSO, where it was Christmas for at least 2 years. Note that these examples have the added bonus of being a game almost as old as UO (even if the versions were newer).

I remember, and actually had one, all the improperly placed houses. As long as they did not block the road, they were allowed. I had one that had a Tree in the middle of it on Magincia.

I remember going from 0-100 in tinkering just using blank keys. And laughing my arse off every time i blew someone up with my tinker trap.:D

I remember escourting 20+ npc's and taking them out of the guard zone, and robbing all of them. Later, I learned that you can escourt them, rob them, take them to their destination and still get paid.

I remember when the banks had bulletin boards with all the top PK's names on them, and the gold reward for killing them and turning in the head.

I remember when i got my first town guard, guardwacked.........hehe

spawn so heavy in areas you were walking on the backs of wolves, cows, orcs, orc mages and brigands. Good fun.

thinking how rich I was when I hit 5K gold ... after starting with 100 and getting dry-looted a few times! I got my first silver katana with that cash!

when Tank Mages were the template to be and Blacksmiths held "court" at various forges to help players with repairs. Tips graciously accepted.

when LIches spawned just about every second wave or so in cemetaries other than Cove. Sometimes 2 or more were around! Moonglow, Brit ... haven't seen one in ages.

orc and brigand camps spawned in nearly any possible overland area at all the wrong times ... like when you were already 1/2 health or less from that Ogre! Guess who all of them would target - especially the orc mages!

I remember when Lord British was killed by a player. Don't remember the guy's name.

I still have a "named" body part(leg I think) from when you could kill and cut-up your opponents.

my friend used to 'help' players who were lost, or recently dead and lost everything. he'd recall them to his house, where the recall spot was surrounded by boxes. the player couldn't get out. So, he'd send a ransom note to the players guild - pay up, or the guy stays there forever. even dead, you were stuck.

i remember starting in moonglow, and getting pk'd by people waiting for the new players to show up.

chickens were deadly.

i remember the backpacks that had weight reduction. 25%, 50% and, iirc 100%? you would do anything for those packs!

Really? Is started Playing the day the servers went live. Some memorable exploits from the first 6 months:

I discovered how to dupe ANYTHING when I was killed by a MOB and was jumping through the moon gates just looking around...suddenly I was alive and had all my stuff back! that was called "black holing" your character and anything in your possession when the server backup occurred would be restored when you were black holed...sadly along with your skills and stats.
And you knew when the backup occurred because the lag would increase.

Getting to Glorious Lord...without every killing anything! Find a beggar, drop 1 gold coin on him, rinse and repeat about 100 times and wolla..Your a Glorious Lord Adapt newbie!

Turning newbie’s perma grey: Once your Glorious Lord using the above exploit. go tame every small critter in sight where the newbie’s hunt, cows, chickens etc. The tame gets the same Karma as the tamer, and when the newbie kills them, they take the Karma loss until they go grey and can be killed on sight by anyone. (Old fame karma system was flat linear)

A fun one was gating / recalling to a bank with several friends. Do not move. Precast e-bolt. Now wait for another char to recall in and hit him before he can move. Every one involved was not in the guard zone (You have to take a step) and thus you could kill a hopefully loaded char before he knew what hit him.

Real fun. Go to the bank and drop kindling all over. Double click and watch as all those peeps who did not run suddenly gain in "camping skill" So much for that hard earned "90" in magery....

Get a thief...get a friend. Steal an item, get guard wacked, your friend opens you body, grabs the item before anyone else knows what’s up.

I could go one and on about the original games bugs, exploits and issues....

I remember a time...

When there was no trash barrels....talk about junk on the ground..

When brit was the place.

when people sold animals at brit..

when you woke up left thy inn with your shovels...left the guard zone..died got rezed repeat :D

When I would wait for that miner to get some ore then Smack him with my bow. LoL.

When we went to make something the menu bar only gave us a few items on the things we could make easy..somewhat hard..and next to very hard. Cant really expalin this one but the old timers know what I mean.

When a thief was someone to be reconded with.

When there was no rune books LoL.

If I ran out of Regs..and I could not afford any....then come on begging skills for gold.

Crystal balls....Nuff said...Man I miss those

aye Tents FTW.

Brit graveyard rarly spawned anything good.

No moongates..if U didnt have a rune..hope for a gate..or buy a boat...

When housing was next to impossible to place LoL.

Practice weapons...If I remember right this is what they were called after there name..there are still a few out there...very few tho

Being red was something BAD!!! thats a big thing there. :D

Now the good times were good, but on the flip side..I remember being attacked by 5 bears and dieing...also the trap boxes..UGH. and of course getting me head cut off many many times LoL. I do like now more than back then. I do have the screen shots to prove it :D

Now for a bug. I remember going up to people that I knew I could take. easy. Saying hey you want to help get your swords/fending up? Lets duel. U attack me first and the skills will shoot way up. Well Of course they would go grey frist..and they would be an easy kill. This way I didn't get a count and I still looted there stuff.

I remember when you had to claim your pets from the same stable you had stabled them in ... and going from stable to stable to find one with space available to lodge my pet ... then making a list of where my characters had pets stabled so I didn't have to go from stable to stable saying claim list until a stablemaster finally presented me with a list.

Because I had more pets than gold back then, I also thought I had to use the same bank I had deposited gold and items in to remove said gold and items. Imagine my surprise when I was standing by a bank I had never used, said bank, and my bank box appeared!

Besides crystal balls, liches dropped braziers...that can be used to cast heal

Daemons and Dragons do not aggro you (actually, none of the monsters aggro you, you have to aggro them).

6 people closing in on a spider, and I aggro'd someone that just happened to stand on top of the spider when I double clicked. Lots of accidents then. No lifebar to drag either.

Despise was the newbie dungeon, since it's nearest to brit where most people gather. Also PK haven.

Lockpicking the dungeon chests was a great way to earn gold.

Wooden shields costs 1 ingot to make, instead of wood.

Female plate was made out of leather.

Screen would freeze when you recall.

Carrying newbie regs in a locked box or a recall scroll in case I ran out of regs.

Pets had a fetch command.

The different sized boxes/crates your carpenter makes had a different weight limitation.

Hiding was an essential skill.

Joining NPC guilds gave you a discount (did not work for regs until a long time later though. The coding considered the only the unit price. A 10% discount on a 3 gp reg isn't really enough to bring the price down).

You can tell when thieves are snooping you coz you are suddenly gaining in snooping...while dropping GM magery/swords/resist/smith...

Skill decay was random, any skill could be picked.

They changed it later to least used skill would decay first. So every hour I would cycle though and use each of the skills I wanted to keep. Just to refresh it and keep it from decaying while I train other skills.

No item limit in backpack/bank/containers. You can buy 999 hides (each weighing 10 stones) and it would fit in your pack. Then you recall home or to the bank to drop it off. Or if you ran out of pearl, teleport. Also, some people perfected dragging and dropping ore from mines to bank/forge into an art.

Cheesing.

Hired NPCs would drop their stuff when dead, including gold that you gave them. Hired Paladins had the best loot since they wore platemail.

All NPCs have a nasty habit of picking stuff that people dropped on the floor. If you gave them something, there's a chance they will give you back something they picked up.

Proudly wearing my chaos shield and then getting guardwhacked when people casted incognito (you can cast this on other people back then) on me, since incognito hides your fame.

Casting attack spells on inanimate objects in town gets you guardwhacked as well. Activated ebolt macro install of recall and targeted rune.

Your corpse is freely lootable by others no matter how you died. People don't get flagged.

Keeping house rune and key in the bank, in case I die and get looted. Only pick up the key when I recall home. And once I am done, the first thing I do is to bank the key. House rune never leaves bank.

You can tame rabbits and use them as a wall to prevent monsters from reaching you, then use magery/archery to deal with the monsters at leisure.
