How to kill a dragon?

Topic says it all except, that the question comes from a returning player, who only knew the old dragons from the year 2000 and was wiped yesterday in Destard

I mean I don't have any special stuff on me with super resists and no slayer books. FS and kite was pretty much the strategy needed to kill dragons back then.
Mind, that I am a mage/tamer and could use my pets to help me kill the dragons. But firstly, I have to survive a dragon first, to be able to tame it, before I can use it on another one(or have a peacer) and secondly, I want to know, how a mage would go killing dragons on his own.
1. skills: mag/eval/med (all 120 or am I good with 110)? I don't have inscription or SW cause I need those points for AT/AL/VET
2. spells: What works best on various dragons? FS? FB? MB?
When I was playing, once you could cast FS reliably, it was pretty much everything you needed to use to kill stuff.
3. Equipment. I heard of (super?) dragon slaying books. That would be a help then. But what about Armor. Can I even dream of surviving a direct melee hit or is it cast and run with as much fire resist as I can muster?

Looking forward to be educated

Good question, some of these dragons are super tough, and they just take a ton of time to work down. I would say, maybe find a dragon slayer spell book (if there is such a thing) and boost your spell damage increase as high as possible. I don't think there's a cap on SDI when you're fighting monsters, so stack as much as you can.

I tried energy vortex's and earth eles, but they got dispelled pretty fast and I didn't have enough mana to keep casting more.

Cast energy based spells- energy bolt and lightning. They seem to do the most damage. Their breath was hitting me for 76 damage against my 62 fire resist. Ouch. So don't let them get close to you, they can drop you in 2 hits.

Hmm, that's what I feared ... they are really tough.
Then again, dragons SHOULD be tough opponents.
They are DRAGONS for pete's sake!

well at least in the next publish they will be labeled as 'greater dragon' so you can be selective about your dance partners.

I kept getting wiped by greater dragons myself and became obsessed the other day about solo'ing one. I can handle them pretty well now. Just gotta get yourself a suit with high fire resist. I start out with a poison field and keep casting ev's... although they dispel a lot of them so you have to make sure you have high med and a lot of MR. Once I have 2 EV's going I just blast away on them with various damage spells and keep them poisoned. =)

Taking down the new dragons are especially tough for mages. Not only are the dragons super strong, the more you damage them, the more they will teleport to your location, so mages who damage them will suddenly not be able to keep out of the range of the dragon.

The more you damage it, the more dangerous it will become if you are a mage. Because of their teleporting, I would never try and take down a greater dragon with a mage ever again, its not worth it. Let the tamers/warriors do it from now on, it is bad for you.
