There is so much new content to be discovered since I've been back!

Last night I discovered rubble items from Magincia and today I discovered the custom carpet system! I'm happily laying down carpet in my castle as we speak and have been able to "modify" some rooms using the rubble walls. What a dream come true for someone like me who was only a few days ago moaning about not being able to customize castle plots. I'd still like to do it, but now with these new goodies it really compensates a lot!

If you're one of the one's returning to UO, please check these wonderful new features out. And a big thanks to the devs for making these for us!

Yeah the custom carpets were a long time coming and greatly appreciated. I had fun redoing my houses.

*grins* Yeah I saw the bit about dyeing at the end of the Stratics guide, thanks :). This is going to be so much fun, finally I can make a home that feels like a cosy home instead of a cold stony dungeon.

if you stack them up the whole stack dyes i think, so you dont waste so much dye.

i also wish they didnt make them double click to lock down :(
i dont know how many times i clicked one and had to replace it.

Seriously though. I'm glad you're enjoying your return. So much negativity around here lately, your post stand out. People should take a lesson from you and stop taking this game so seriously, and just enjoy the many things it has to offer.

You're welcome on the carpets Saph.

Basically, the carpet system stemmed from an OLLLD (think Pre-T2A) idea of mine that was on a subsite of UOSS (pre-Stratics). It made it for a brief time on Test Center way back when, but was abandoned due to bugs. Draconi found the code just laying dormant when they were doing the SA expansion, fixed the bugs and threw it in. I had always considered the idea "completed" when AOS came out with customized housing so it was quite a surprise to me when he unveiled it during the SA closed beta.

Glad to see people still enjoy it :)

Miri of Sonoma: Will do, thanks! Although I feel like there is so much to catch up on to make a decent looking place these days. I've been seeing some amazing designs out there.

aarons6: Thanks, good to know!

Njjj: Hehe, I'm afraid not. Working for the competition actually. :) And thanks. I hope it will balance things out for anyone who happens to find their way to this forum and they'll see posts about good stuff and not just complaints (which I'm also good at hehe).

Dermott: It's almost heartbreaking to hear this story because I think carpeting has been one of the most desired things interior decorator's have wanted through all these years. I really can't express how happy I am about them. I guess it's not so bad if you have a customizable house, but this really is a dream come true for those who own the classic un-customizables. My castle is actually transforming before my eyes. Thank you Draconi wherever you are!

Oh and a question about the rubble, does anyone know of a full visual catalog of all possible rubble types and their rare-rating? There is some info of course on UO Guide, however it does not seem to cover everything.

Yeah, originally it was supposed to be for any and all floor tile art, LONG before any house customization was involved. I may be a bit wrong on the timeframe... It may have been between T2A and UO:R... it gets a little fuzzy.

It originated on the original version of the UHall as a response to ideas for gold sinks (mind you this was when having millions was the exception, NOT the norm) and built from there, then went to the Ideas Den which turned into UODR (UO Done Right) later on, then Test, then forgotten about until SA.

BOTH times, yes.

First time, my then-guildleader, right when I woke up the day it went on test and logged on was all over my ICQ freaking out saying that I HAD to get over to Test and see what was going on.

When Draconi unveiled it during SA beta, it was on the sooper-seekrit closed beta forum (I was in because of the work I do on UI modding as well as a few fellow modders since we asked for the chance to make sure our UIs were ready for the updated client). At first he posted the title for the design doc on the forum to which my reply even before he posted the doc itself was something along the lines of "Oh crap!" Then of course I had to dig for the old documentation which right now, unless someone knows how to do a keyword search on the web archive sites, is pretty much limited to a couple of old UO HoC dev chats, so I linked those to Draconi to explain it all.

It really does go to show that they do take advice and ideas. Runebooks were a player idea, and of course the seed crates, and probably a lot more than we actually realize.

And the current team just showed a good bit of listening to player feedback with the changes to Pub 73 (dye charges, loot durability, bug fixes, etc).

Aren't the rubble pieces selling for over 1 million gold a piece ?

Seemed to me like a good way to enhance the rares market... not allow someone like me who gets all his gold from hunting to customize his house...

Maybe in two years I'll have a few pieces...

nice, thanks for the info :)

Do you have any things that could be used for people who want a less... gloomy castle ?

Most of this stuff is like evil stuff for necromancers (or would more fit a necromancer)

Is there a general link to special deco ?

We also need to tell her about the goza mats. I have seen things done with castles that are just amazing with ladders and goza mats. Entire new levels built just with the gozas. And they look amazing. It was really laggy but still

Oh well... theres not more :( looks like theres a parallel to be drawn here... between everyone needs a sampire...

everyone needs a necromancer's castle !

Meh :p I'm just glad the warden of the abyss house on Siege isn't cluttered with such silly torture and dark items when the game dosen't even allow us to roleplay those things.

PG-13... and we have lotto and torture items. :coco:

You can do anything with your castle, and the deco is in the game to do it, I don't think you're looking hard enough.

There is a color scheme for each person. I redo my castle decor several times a year. Halloween is always the dark and gloomy, then dye furniture to rustic oranges/yellows and burnt reds for Fall/Thanksgiving. Christmas time is just around the corner and plenty of deco for that!

For a general all-around appearance, the new planters from the 14th anny tickets are really neat and some nice neutral color plants look really nice in them.

A home is what you make it..I wish I still had all the pictures of my old castle, this is just one tower.

The color scheme I used in that instance is the same I used in my auction house:

I love the powder blues with plain and purple campion flowers. And with the new customizable carpets, it's endless what you can do to make your castle look more like a home then a dungeon ;)

Saph, if there are some sandstone structural rubble pieces you need (full pieces), pm me. Let's just say, I have rather a lot of those. Oddly, for me, they're actually well organised and easily viewed!

I spent a great deal of time defending Rilla's during the Magincia event, so I snagged a whole bunch of rubble. Rilla's was rebuilt for us by Draconi himself. Unfortunately, after Draconi left, Rilla's was later destroyed again forever in the follow-on event. Yeah, that still hurts.

You already know you're welcome to my humble abode(s) anytime, just message me to make sure I have enough connection to get in-game to meet with you.

Re: *happy happy happy* Just discovered Magincia Rubble and Custom Carpets from Ter M

just a few things you should know about carpets though, before you go all out placing some then realize this...carpet will fall through goza mats so if you want dual layer carpet (for collored flooring under the frilly edge of the carpet) you have to use a raised goza to lock one one tick up so they sit on each other. It's also extremely hard to place objects on top of carpet, and if you want to place any multi-tile addons on top of carpet, put a line of gozas down first where it's going, raise them above the carpet (lock the carpet under) and lower the item down on top of the carpet. A easy trick with carpet to see if anything is going to fall through is to mount an ethy nearby, it causes any pieces that will fall through others to do it immediately, making it easy enough to use a decor tool to reposition it.

Here's my WIP castle i'm just recarpeting now (keep running out of cloth for the gozas though, using gozas for the most part and carpet around areas with other carpet

And here's another house using the carpet trick mentioned above that I just recently finished redecorating

(i cheated and used raised gozas under the "bookcases" to make it easier to add and remove runebooks without having to raise and lower a bunch of things....)
It's a public house right at brit moongate on siege if you want to look at how the carpet is done (it's a royal pain but looks so nice when complete...)

I  the new carpet....do wish it was a little less buggy though.

Aww thanks! It was really tricky, wanted something I'd never seen before, nothing too cluttered, open space..I was pleased with it :)

My first one was an almost 100% copy of Europas Famous Auction House.

For those of you who might not remember it:
(My favorite design at the time)

I profusly thanked the designer for his idea :)

I tweaked it JUST a bit:

Currently I am taking down my creepy halloween deco and readying my castle for fall/Thanksgiving. While I do miss my customizable homes, I enjoy the adventure of castles :)

Re: *happy happy happy* Just discovered Magincia Rubble and Custom Carpets from Ter M

Dermott: Oh I never knew runebooks were also a player's idea. As for seed crates, I haven't even heard of those - will have to look it up. (I guess to resolve issues with having too many seeds taking up gardener's lockdowns?) In any case sounds good.

You know, it might be that UO doesn't have subscription numbers like WoW does, but it sure makes up for it in the intimate and truly interactive relationship between the players and the devs! And even without that, the community is very passionate about the game. I've never felt passion for a game in the same way. Never in a million years would I think of spending as much time and effort into trying to help improve any other game. And I know I'm not the only one. There's just something about UO that gets deep into your heart.

flappy6: Thanks for the offer but I play on Europa. (unless there's something I don't know about yet... has something been created to easily transfer items from one server to another without making an actual character transfer?).

Petra: Great links!

Staining Dyes
Ooooooh so that's where those came from! (my son had a few of those in his inventory and has quit uo because he started his studies and doesn't have time anymore). Nice to know we can make our own dyes through gardening now!

Basket weaving
Hadn't heard of that either! You know I'd be quite excited about this if it weren't for the actual graphics of the baskets being a bit ugly. I love all the old school baskets, it's the newer ones that don't tickle my fancy. Their shadows are so dark somehow and they seem mismatched. Maybe I should start a new Pixel Challenge thread hehe.

Decorative Items from Champions
Ooooohh didn't know about those either! Saw a few of these amongst my sons stuff as well. Got to love the water tiles, blood wall tile and creeping vines especially!

Decorative Items from Peerless Monsters
Again, didn't know about these either.

Decorative Items from Underworld Puzzles
Oooooohhhhh...... must... get.... easel... *drool* The floured bread board and kneading bowl look so cute!

Primeval Lich Decor
Oh my goodness gracious! So many cool items!! The white dragon head is gorgeous. Would love to get that vat as well. I wonder if one's character can actually climb into it once assembled fully?

Thanks so much for these + deco links Petra! I'd have probably found them at one point or another but I'm sure it'd have taken quite a bit of time. My head is swimming with all the possibilities now :).

Ahuaeyjnkxs: Yeah the wall pieces I've bought so far have been 1-2 mill, some smaller items have been around 500K (on europa). But seeing as they will never spawn again, I think it's fair.

Mirt: Yeah I was a bit more active back when goza mats were introduced. I've actually had my castle floor covered in pitch black goza for several years now. Spent over an hour removing and trashing them all the other day hehe. Prefer the new carpeting much more. About all the neat stuff you can do with gozas, making steps etc - what's EA's take on that. Are they legal to make? I vaguely remember some issue with doing something illegal with gozas. Just can't remember what it was...

Larisa: That tower top garden is very pretty! However your customized house is even more gorgeous, so white and pure. Really well thought out!

It's the murkyness of castles that get to me. My favorite customizing material of all time are the basic whites and the sandstones. I once built a whole greek "town" using those basic white tiles. Was going to open up a holiday resort and restaurant, but alas never got around to completing it and opening up. *sighs* But how I loved making those houses... and all the plans I had... *gets wistful*

LadyNico: Aww thanks! And I'd be very happy to help alleviate you of those structural pieces on one condition: That you'd allow me to pay you the going price. Otherwise no-can-do!

Raptor85: Good to know about placing those carpet tiles, thanks! Wasn't aware of those issues, nor did I know about the ethereal trick! And actually I had pitch black gozas down in my castle for several years without ever finishing decorating. It's just been strewn with a few random boxes and junk. But all the black gozas have gone into the trash bin and now the castle is turning into something completely new with the carpets. Gotta love them! I agree though that they are a bit buggy. I also don't really like how they "mousoever" the yellow color easily when you move your cursor over them. Very irritating. Nothing else in the game mouseovers like that, so they shouldn't either.

Re: *happy happy happy* Just discovered Magincia Rubble and Custom Carpets from Ter M

Hmm Petra I said ... or that would fit a necromancer... I just rechecked the links.

theres a few, and only a few items that would fit a mage or a paladin's castle...

Exept some water tiles, shimmering crystal, totem and banana trees... the general tendancy of the items they added is bloody, dark, or necromancish.

Heck we even have a bloody executioner platform that was added in a PG-13 game... its drawn as its freshly used. Chopping heads, really ? nice deco for a role you cannot even ROLEPLAY.

I'm being forced to play a PG-13 game, and I'm the only one who "pays" for it... thats my only plight here. I know full well there is many other deco items and you would probably enjoy my house decoration if you could be bothered to visit.

Heck EA forced them to remove the function to chop up corpses when dead, and now they put back the bloody chopped up, TORTURED human figures through PAYING expansions... well when people pay you have to give equally to all "styles"...

*this makes me gag no joke*

I can't roleplay like a grown-up because of game restrictions... but the devs have fun designing what I'm prohibed.

Try to understand just for an instant.. I'm not raising up in the morning just thinking... oh hey lets see what I could post as a bad critic on stratics just to **** people off...

its just not true.

I'm right to be mad.

You see my only comment is that there is not a good balance of "good" and "bad" items in the last additions to the game.

the devs clearly prefer the "Abyss" and the "dark" stuff...

oh Ahu! bothered to visit? I have visited, twice.

I realise that a lot of the decor from the champions etc is dark, but that's mostly because of where it comes from. The less dark decor is the items you can craft. The gargoyle candelabra is beautiful for instance, as is the short table.

I was talking to Larissa...

gah... I really want to make people enjoy this game more... heck I regularly go "pick" new people on atlantic and have them join siege instead.

Thats what I do when I have free time !

why do I always come up as so negative ? Because I am terribly worried... there is something terribly wrong and someone like me should never cause strong reactions like this...

I brought from Tina about everything craftable that exists and included it in my design... its just that since the others are rarer and... lets admit it, nicer.

It seems unfair that the only challenge in the game only rewards the dark type...

it was just a tiny weeny opinion... and I wasn't making it into an innuendo...

maybe I'm depressed... I'll go back to sleep.
