Maybe they're going to release the gifts when the booster is released?

This isn't about gifts, screw gifts at this point... It’s about the continual lack of any sort of follow-through with what Cal says and reality.

A simple anniversary message on the Herald would have satisfied most everyone. They couldn't even manage that. It’s pathetic.

This booster wasn't supposed to consume 110% of their time, other things were supposed to get accomplished concurrently. Obviously that was complete and utter BS.

LoL, well I certainly won't go as far as "screw gifts at this point". In fact it was my question about Halloween events that got an all around eye roll at the TownHall, and Cal and Mesana both went on record farther than that saying "you'll get your gifts"*as to a wayward child* when what I really wanted was for them to go on record one way or another regarding whether dev time would be made available for the seasonal staples we have enjoyed so much over the last five years.

If the foot went in the mouth they did it themselves. I'm willing to wait just a bit before I go over to upset, and I'm hopeful after they are done with testing, a publish and patch regarding anni items and bug fixes will be in the works.

I don't plan on turning blue in the corner either.

Wonderful HAppy Birthday UO and The original OSI group where ever you. The bad part about it all is the now existant dev's and designers have either forgotten or do not care about there own product that they work on everyday and support! Kinda like one of us forgetting our spouse's birthday not a good thing to let happen !! TADOW !!

For all those old school Players here is a small walk down memory lane !!

That was when the game was worth playing.

least the reverts happened about the same time every day - made it tough to buy stuff & fight in dungeons - remember it well

Years ago we were a 3-generation family playing UO. Still are, just less playing...
My sister's daughter started in her teens, my sister and my parents played.

It’s always been funny when I talk in game about my Mom or Dad and then I get "kid" comments towards me. I’d just laugh and tell em, umm I’m 30+ Mom and Dad are in their 50’s. The best was when some pkiddie was smack talking my Mom and kept calling her a punk azz kid.

My Dad now 71 still plays this game every day. Mom still likes to work but she’s setup just out of arms reach and still logs some serious game time. Yeah there used to be some physical abuse towards each other when one of them died, rofl!! It’s hilarious hearing some 60’s 70’s year olds yelling where the H*ll was my heal?!!?

I hope I can be enjoying this game or a new version of it in my 70's!
Your not alone kiddo!! This house has had 5 computers going at once and all were on uo running amuck!! We need more family time in UO!!!! best way to have fun and teach values of the family.
Oh and massacare I havent seen those screens in ages!! What a cool thing to see all these years later.

Happy Birthday UO and to all the players who were there in the begining ..Call up your friends and family who played with you and rub it in : WE MADE 13YEARS and have more to come .... so get back in the game... (public service anouncement for more players )

Aside from what the EMs create, it supposedly does.

Not that one could tell from whats being done with the Bane and Magincia. Or rather, not being done...

Magincia still sits there as a hot mess and the Bane haven't been touched in months. (Start the damn war with the Meer already before we cease to care about them!)

Another day and still nothing on UO.Com
The thing is, I'm quite sure they have read this, are aware that the 13th anni has come and went, but now will probably look even more like fools if they suddenly say 'Oh yeah... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!'. I'd encourage everyone to PM James_Mythic. I can assure you that he has seen this thread, but I think sometimes when people don't want to tend to something they need some prodding.

But yeah, due to the booster (that was brought about as to NOT divert attention from other events/ content/ etc) that is exactly what is happening. And, of course, we all know by the beta testing that having Oct 12th as the firm release date just means the booster will be as 'polished' as the EC or SA. It'll be another halfway released thing from them... par for the course. Again.

God help us. rolleyes:

Again, all I can urge to people is DO NOT SUPPORT THE BOOSTER PACK. As consumers, we should not accept this low level of quality.

Remember how poorly things played out two years ago? It was mid-October and still no word on any kind of birthday celebration. Then word leaked out about the UO Japan site getting ready to sell the 11th Anniversary collection items. There was also a Town Hall and a missed FoF that had a lot of people freaking out. Publish 56 that kicked off the War of Shadows went live on all shards on October 28, 2008.

After digging through old posts for 30 minutes, I never did find anything that clarified if there were any 11th anniversary gifts that went to all active players.

There were 11th year vet reward things... Well, the vet rewards were a year late... so *shrugs*

Anything specific to the 11th Annniverasry asfar as goodies were concerened I can't seem to remember. I mean its not as if they didn't know the Anniversary was coming... well... given that Cal didn't know shat a 'sampire' was... Hmm.

But, I'll say it again, its not about the goodies. It's about them getting off their butts and POSTING SOMETHING ON THE ANNIVERASRY, NOT AFTER! See, doing it after shows a lack of caring and diligence on Mythic's part and it rings hollow.

However, I'm sure 95% of people will forget about this issue as soon as a little pixel crack is deposited in their backpacks. They don't mind the lousy customer service as long as they get pixelcrack.

I was trying to remember ...10th anni items we had to get by hunting in dungeons. If my pea-brained memory serves me you had to buy the 11th anni items from the UOstore and last yr we did get a ticket you clicked for somthing.

Not to be totally rude but poor UO is in the toilet....it's just waiting for someone to flush it on doooooooooooown!

Happy Belated B-day UO.....To bad your own Dev Team doesn't even give a big fat rip. :sad4:

Does my memory fails me or do I remember correctly that months ago, at the TownHall Meeting, when 13th Year Veteran Rewards were discussed, someone reported as hearing that they were on schedule for the birthday ??

That's what I feared when I first heard of the Boosters' design plan......

As a UO player, I'd rather see current issues be dealt with (namely the cheating but also other current problems the game may have...) rather than see "new" stuff be put in with its bugs, problems and time consuming issues.......

God help us. rolleyes:

I like new stuff, but thing is, that I like it when it is done well, without leaving a trail of problems behind its release AND, when it does not take resources away from dealing with current problems.

Now, "if" the delay of the 13th Year Veteran Rewards has anything to do with the upcoming Booster well, then this is NOT a good sign to me and makes me also feel that I cannot support the Boosters' plan..........

Happy Birthday UO!

Uh oh, UO is a teenager now.

As far as the gifts go, there are 2 or 3 people working on this game these days? And we are getting ship combat? No complaints here.

Throwing some more fuel on the fire here, but I think you're all wrong.

I distinctly remember getting my pre-order charter edition box in october - around the 2nd week. It's been a while.

I believe beta peeps had access early but the real opening day would not have been that time/date.

Just sayin'

The GDC Online Awards Hall of Fame
The GDC Online Awards Hall of Fame recognizes a specific online game that has resulted in the long-term advancement of the medium, pioneering major shifts in online game development and games as a whole.

Ultima Online (Electronic Arts)

Electronic Arts’ Ultima Online, the Origin-created game that is now the longest continually running massively multiplayer online game in history, will be honored with the first ever Hall of Fame award for online games.

The persistent world installment for the seminal Ultima game franchise, which launched on September 25th, 1997, has now been operating for almost 14 years – and was a key part of the wave of late 1990s subscription-based MMOs which brought the genre to much wider attention.

Some of Ultima Online’s most important features included in-game events affecting the entire lore of the world, progressive features for their time such as item crafting and persistent player housing. Continued upgrades of in-game content and even game engine have helped to keep the game fresh for players, some of which have subscribed continuously for over a decade.

Petal, they subtract 1997 from 2010 and get 14. You quote them for reliable data?

what are the 13th year vet rewards?

This is the only place I know of were everyone expects a present from the one having the birthday.

Well, as I see it, Veteran Rewards can possibly play a role as an incentive to players to maintain their accounts as active.

That is, as I see it, it can be a way to "promote" the game and help keep subscriptions as active if the rewards are sufficiently appealing to players (and of course, the higher the years the more appealing they should be in order to have players be willing to keep their accounts as active to qualify for those rewards...).

So, I would not see them much as "gifts" but more, as a promotion thing to help players want to maintain their accounts as active to accumulate months so as to qualify for those Veteran Rewards, eventually.

Of course, this can work in those players who may want some time off from the game from time to time, not for those players who may have had enough with playing the game for whatever other reasons.

I kinda see it as an extra, an added bonus yet valuable to the Company that owns the game to have it as one of the reasons (perhaps not the main one but nonetheless one of the reasons, IMHO....) to offer to players to keep their accounts as active to eventually qualify for juicy and appealing Veteran Rewards....

That's at least how I see them.

No, I was not in beta and I logged in as soon as the servers opened. I wrote a note in my UO guide that they had shipped the pre-orders on Sept 25th. My memory is that they opened the servers on the 27th to allow for the 2 days of shipping so as to allow as many as possible to start playing on the first day.

But they didn't allow beta people to play early. They already had early play as they kept the beta servers opened longer than needed to accommodate them with some reward.

The noticeable thing here is that back in those days, fairness was a top priority for the paying player. These days in MMORPGs, expectation of rewards in game for anything and everything are everywhere, and that's not fair for the overall player base. (And I wonder how many of you don't get this comment?)

My thoughts exactly.
They gave a launch date and if you add in all the testing prior to launch then yes UO has been around for almost 14 years and still going.

I did read the citation carefully, and although Olahorand and Frodo suggest finesses which would work around the error, it is still clear they meant nearly 13 years of the game operating as a MMOG.
Now giving no more attention to arguing a point which means nothing.
Life is beautiful.
