I have been debating whether or not to broach this topic on Stratics, but it is getting to the point where I feel I need to state where I stand on an issue.

I have been told more than once, by multiple people, that I should not say for others to hear where I am, where I hunt, where I am holding events. I understand the reasons why most people try to keep a low profile.

I am not in a guild with skilled players. In fact, until recent months, I have not been in ANY guild for many years. I generally run around in super cheap, almost useless LRC, or nothing at all. I have nothing to risk, and so much to gain. If I am trading something, yes I do take appropriate measures. If I come across some one else in game, I do not give away their location or even their presence without their agreement. If some one holding a player event, or some one finds an IDOC, and asks me not to mention it to the general public, I will honor that request.

I hold no such reservations for EM events.

However - if I ask for help with something in general chat, YES, I am aware I might get PK'd. I assume others are aware that if they come to help me they might also get PK'd. If I announce the location of a Minion, I don't get upset if no one comes to kill it. I understand. I don't get upset if some one comes and kills me, either. I assume PKs are aware that other PKs might come. Sometimes, things get interesting. I appreciate that folks have my safety in mind, but I do not need to be reminded of the risks :)

The recent Spring Hunt event was the final straw for me. I was told that I should not announce the event before hand, or here on Stratics. Later, when it came time to deliver the prizes, I spoke with the winners in GC and invited them to come - naked - to NOOB Dojo. From this private house, the plan was to offer a Bag of Sending to send in their winnings and a gate to the destination of their choice. I see no risk. If I am missing something here, please enlighten me so I can properly adjust for the Summer Hunt.

I wish to state, for the record, that all events I hold will be announced and broadcast for ALL to attend. I try to set them up in such a way that folks can come prepared for a fight if they wish, or just come naked and still have fun doing whatever the goal of the event is. The gates were PEC gates, so that they would stay open for the duration and you needed no gear at all to get back and forth. It would have been very challenging for Siege's PKs to camp all four gates and kill EVERYone who came thru before they got away. Even if you died on the way back to NM, your Siege-Blessed book could be delivered after you got rezzed in town.

As it turned out, Siege's murderers were evidently busy doing something else and the only blood spilled was Spyderbite's peculiar 'friend'. I do understand that folks do not enjoy taking any risks, even if they have nothing on and nothing to lose. But just for future reference - the Summer Hunt will also be advertised, and the books will not be in a guard zone. :)

Sorry for this book-length post, but I just felt I needed to explain where I stand.

I agree...this is a place where you are not safe...even if you THINK you are..you aren't! Isn't that why you are here??

To stifle General Chat is ludicrous! Especially for events....some people do not use Stratics...GC is the best way to communicate, so communicate! And be prepared to die at any time. If you are worried about losing your precious suit or whatever else you may have on you...then you're doing it wrong ;)

On prodo I depend on certain things for my toons...it has been a challenge on Siege but I LOVE the challenge...running around in no-stat 100% LRC gear is INSANE....but I'd rather lose that then some billion gold suit that I might rage-quit over lol.

And going to events naked is fun! :)

Thanks Tanager for all that you do..I regret missing your hunt...it sounded SO FUN and I would have been there in a heartbeat...hopefully I can catch the next one! :)

Tanager, just do it your way, it will work well, don't let others fear effect you :)

It is with PK's like with dogs (sorry I mean it in a good way), if you show fear, they will bite.

When I was running NEW, NEWdot and NEW2, I would invite all to events made for my NEW guilds. Sure I had to remove blood from my roof a few times, but it was friendly attacks with no looting.

I too will ose GC to call for help with this Minions and had done a few times. It is Siege, dying is always a risk.

As long the vile side of the shard respect you for your job with bringing new blood to the shard, they have no reason to ruin your event.

If you decided to show fear and not invite all and hide the time and place, you would invite to trouble.

I saw Delores came to the event with VvV tag on. *Tips hat*, not all show fear on the shard :)

At an event, where all can come in blessed clothes, there I don't understand what people fear. Sure, if the PK's had been there, it would had been harder to keep the books safe without PvP gear, but alot do have stealth so that should help the naked ones :)
Also a graduations party, all can come in blessed clothes or cheap LRC suit so what is the risk?

Keep doing it your way :)

I don't know many people on Siege yet, or where the hangouts are. GChat is a lifeline to newcomers to the shard like me so please keep using it! :) I'll happily take the risk of being PK'd any time, it's part of the fun.

I keep forgetting to turn GC on though, usually spend a while wondering why it's so quiet before I realise I'm in the Help channel....

GC is a great tool for people to communicate with others who aren't in the same guild or alliance. As mentioned previously, its a lifeline for new players on Siege.

There's a difference between making announcements about an event and giving the coordinates of where you're farming at that moment. For example, everybody meet <Insert Location> to help kill a minion! vs. I can't meet right now. I'm busy farming copper elementals on Shame Level 2 and my pack is full and I ran out of BoS charges!
