I have been debating whether or not to broach this topic on Stratics, but it is getting to the point where I feel I need to state where I stand on an issue.
I have been told more than once, by multiple people, that I should not say for others to hear where I am, where I hunt, where I am holding events. I understand the reasons why most people try to keep a low profile.
I am not in a guild with skilled players. In fact, until recent months, I have not been in ANY guild for many years. I generally run around in super cheap, almost useless LRC, or nothing at all. I have nothing to risk, and so much to gain. If I am trading something, yes I do take appropriate measures. If I come across some one else in game, I do not give away their location or even their presence without their agreement. If some one holding a player event, or some one finds an IDOC, and asks me not to mention it to the general public, I will honor that request.
I hold no such reservations for EM events.
However - if I ask for help with something in general chat, YES, I am aware I might get PK'd. I assume others are aware that if they come to help me they might also get PK'd. If I announce the location of a Minion, I don't get upset if no one comes to kill it. I understand. I don't get upset if some one comes and kills me, either. I assume PKs are aware that other PKs might come. Sometimes, things get interesting. I appreciate that folks have my safety in mind, but I do not need to be reminded of the risks
The recent Spring Hunt event was the final straw for me. I was told that I should not announce the event before hand, or here on Stratics. Later, when it came time to deliver the prizes, I spoke with the winners in GC and invited them to come - naked - to NOOB Dojo. From this private house, the plan was to offer a Bag of Sending to send in their winnings and a gate to the destination of their choice. I see no risk. If I am missing something here, please enlighten me so I can properly adjust for the Summer Hunt.
I wish to state, for the record, that all events I hold will be announced and broadcast for ALL to attend. I try to set them up in such a way that folks can come prepared for a fight if they wish, or just come naked and still have fun doing whatever the goal of the event is. The gates were PEC gates, so that they would stay open for the duration and you needed no gear at all to get back and forth. It would have been very challenging for Siege's PKs to camp all four gates and kill EVERYone who came thru before they got away. Even if you died on the way back to NM, your Siege-Blessed book could be delivered after you got rezzed in town.
As it turned out, Siege's murderers were evidently busy doing something else and the only blood spilled was Spyderbite's peculiar 'friend'. I do understand that folks do not enjoy taking any risks, even if they have nothing on and nothing to lose. But just for future reference - the Summer Hunt will also be advertised, and the books will not be in a guard zone.
Sorry for this book-length post, but I just felt I needed to explain where I stand.
