But the biggest problem is - I reveal you. I know your a thief. I have the combat skill to kill you. But I can't kill you because you're blue and inside a guardzone.
IF using forensic eval on you turned you grey like the old days, then I'd definitely train it and have fun hunting thieves. But I've never seen a thief leave Luna bank and there's nothing to do about it.
So what's the purpose of a detective?
I second what he said. I LOVE playing a detective and would gladly do so on Siege
if detectives could actually do something about thieving with Forensic Evaluation.
Unless I'm mistaken, Forensic Evaluation only gives information but it does not allow you to act upon it any more than you would otherwise be able to do so.
I have a GM Detective on Atlantic that is guilded in a Trammel ruleset RP guild.
1. He can determine who killed a corpse. He has used this to determine who killed his guildmate but the only way they could kill guildmate in Trammel ruleset was if they were warred to us or we were in Felucca. The only purpose this serves is RP.
2. He can tell who is in the Thieves Guild. He can't do anything about it. Practically speaking, how would he be able to reasonably roleplay this ability even if he could act on it. If they were in disguise, he could probably *notice* the disguise.
3. He can tell who picked a lock....woohoo, now he knows who is training lockpicking skill.
If I translate that to a non-RP or even semi-RP detective on Siege:
1. I could determine who killed a corpse...*frowns*
2. I could determine who is in the Thieves Guild...Bruin covered this matter pretty well. To that point, a thief has little incentive to use Incognito or a disguise on Siege if they have a Siege Blessed item equipped or am I mistaken?
3. I could determine who picked a lock...who cares since lockpicking is only used to train the skill so you can open looted treasure chests or go treasure hunting.
The only way to practically play a non-RP detective on Siege would be to do so as a red character (or at least orange) unless I'm mistaken. That is just sad that a detective has to go red to do their job.
I do appreciate the conversation starter. I have a serious question about playing a detective on Siege under the current conditions for thieves and detectives...thieves were rightfully plying their trade at the last event (*shakes fist at thief who stole from him at the event*). So let's assume I wasn't a noob on the shard and I showed up with my trained blue detective. So I could detect who amongst the participants were in the Thieves Guild, now what...if they don't steal from me (why would they if they
know I'm a detective other than for fun and then again I have to wait for them to steal from me?) and they don't get noticed stealing...would there be anything I could do?
