Fishing Suit = Huge Dissapointment

After spending points on this set, I'll be the first to say...it sucks! Wearing the suit, using bait as well...I managed 3 yellowtail barracudas out of 600 tries. Lousy odds IMO.

Thanks for sharing feedback, I got this suit in hopes of getting a little bump in chance. I would be interested in hearing others opinions as well.

The 3 new suits are horrible. So you have to first get the pts for the suit, then find someone to imbue the damn thing? All 3 suits should have been like the others, already having 70's resists or some other damn abilities.

Sorry, reposting my unanswered question from another thread.

I returned to UO some time ago (initially from 2002), but haven't had time too play much. As my gear still sucks and I am still not very knowledgeable concerning imbuing (don't have the expansion) and the "new" stats, could anyone please tell me whether any of those armor suits is worth getting?

My main chars are a Mage/Bard and TreasureHunter/Thief. Are suits like "Sorcerer's Armor" any good, or should I just pass. At least the stats of the etoile/novo set look good...

Thanks all.

Being a mystic mage fisherman, I was able to imbue the resists, LRC, LMC, nightsight, and MI on the suit without much trouble. I fished using bait and did get a little more success. Whether it was worth it is a personal decision. I was lucky to have turn-ins worth 8M+, so could experiment around with all the suits. However, if I could just barely scape together enough to buy the fishing suit, I would for sure be disappointed.

A big disappointment and waste for me was the berserker suit.

This suit have a problem from the beginning, but I have a theory:

Bait bonus: 1%
suit: +50% bonus of the 1%
total: 1.5% extra chance to get the fish = useless

The only use is for summon charybdis without wasting too many baits...

Sorcerer's Armor is still in moderately wide use by mid-level PvM-oriented mages.

So that one's still useful.

If you can get the one that's PoF-able (know what that means I hope?) that's better but it's a tad pricy.

From what I can tell none of the VERY new suits (the Sorcerer's Suit is a duplicate of a reward from an earlier turn in, not an item native to this turn in) are good for someone returning. They are deliberately aimed, it would seem, at a niche market.

Several newer items in the game are that way, deliberately aimed (it seems) at niche markets.

Sorcerer's Suit if you can get it should do you quite nicely for awhile.

Also look for player-made pre-put-together suits for sale on vendors.

Honestly, I cannot understand why ppl use this suit anymore with imbuing being an option.
I mean you guys do realize that its only two mana regen, and 5 lmc..... total, right? Sure its got full resists (human, not 75 energy for elf) and 100% lrc.... and room for talisman and jewels.. but wow. So if my math is correct, if you use the 10% lmc talisman and Orny thats total 25. Add in 8 lmc on an imbued ring.... sitting at 33. Best I think you can do at that point is settler for 35% with the one quest reward cloak that has 2% lmc.

Unless of course the replica is really just that much worse then the real deal.

The suits are not intended to be overpowered.

It only acts as a decorative set in your house or your chest or when you bank sit with your char.

Its been this purpose for spring cleaning since then.

Do you actually see anyone using the 100 lrc 5 lmc mage suit or whatever other suits in PVP or PVM???

As for the bless deeds, it also have only 1 purpose, is to bless one of your items that is not imbued ... but urg... the bless deed costs 100k points and insurance cost you few hundred dollars per item....

Uh.... just another decorative item again.

the mage suit is bugged for elves...you don't get an all 70's suit...I tested it last night and human chars were the only one's to get the all 70's out of the suit.

I thought I was gonna like imbuing, until i actually wasted the time on it - odds are similar to gold/luck. Over GM (Generally Meaningless), least i don't have to buy anything to train the skill.

But to the orig OP, thanks for letting us know about the suit FAIL - but will they change it in the future is the quesion

How rare are Yellowtail Barracuda supposed to be? Three in six hundred turns into 1 in 200. It takes 4-5 seconds per cast, so you are getting 1 every ~17 minutes.

It does not seem that horrible.

it's not the time....it's the odds

1 out of 200 is .5% chance...that sucks....the normal odds are 1-3%, the suit should raise that to 1.5 to 4.5%.

I hated the randomness, the complete insanity of standing in line for swoop, the ******** and repetitive doom runs, the endless bods for runics, the complete waste of fun playing time.. Now, I can go out, farm ingredients, plan a suit, and with diligence and time I can get a perfect suit for whatever purpose. It comprehensively engaged me with the game again, where before it had turned into a backwards Pogo-like uninteresting game of luck. Now, with my perfect suit, I can try to accomplish various aspects of the game that were impossible to do before. I have the ability to compete in PvP. I can enjoy the game with all my online friends and try to achieve skill. Not skill-points, actual skill in playing the game. This game is so diverse, and requires so much in-depth knowledge, that the suit is truly only one aspect of this game. In addition, it has kept the game alive both for the artie haters - the "please can we have only GM armor back" crowd, as well as the "i like to be a gunner for the arties and have the best manure my duped gold can buy" crowd. It allows both play styles. So, Gunga Din, you can still go kill navery x 1000 solo to get the perfect gear, or burn your runics to get stuff that is slightly better than any imbued stuff (and you can PoF it indefinitely!!!). Your game style is still available and valid. I personally think the game has become so incredibly much more fun the last 2 years, and I think imbuing was a very, very large factor in that upward trend.

Now, back on topic. What up with that fishing suit? Is it really just another broken luck suit? How about the damage on that barding suit? Is that worthwhile? As much as Galen advocates getting the sorcerers suit, I think that is only interesting from a historic perspective. I would love to read some creative solutions / implementations of the new suits.

It seems the fishing and musician suit don't really work as intended. Other than that, I rather like having the ability to choose the mods on my suits. Some folks might not want all 70s taking up the imbuing weight.

As for your post, you have a good point. To fix this, I believe the devs should implement all monster looted items with a specific tag like "looted" and then allow the imbuing weight to be 550 or 525. That way, there is an edge to going out and hunting monsters for imbuable pieces. And yes, I see a flaw in this idea as well, so perhaps the higher difficulty the creature, the higher the chance of dropping "looted" tag items that have a 550 imbuing weight with pre-picked mods. That way, someone can't farm mongbats for 550 weight items. Hehe.

I totally disagree and think that imbuing was the best thing to come to Ultima online since a very long time......

The problem with item based games, is that players, in order to be succesfull, need to wear the "best" items and weapons to be more succesfull in the game.

Because of modifiers......

Now, not all players have time to powergame, not to count the great divide between existing players and new or returning players and not to mention Player vs. Player playing....

Before imbuing, only a few players had access to the very best items and, thus, were able to always or most always have the upper hand in the game and be largely more competitive than a bunch of other players who simply were new, returning, or lacked the time to power game to get access to those high end items.

Imbuing allowed, finally I'd say, competition back into the game, especially in PvP, because it made it more reasonable also for players who lacked the time to powergame or to new or returning players to cover that gap and be able to compete against other players.

Imbuing was a brilliant idea and a great addition to the game, IMHO.

Was it a single Developer idea or did it come out as a Team idea ? Anyone knows how the idea of imbuing initially took shape in Ultima Online ?

What weakens looting for imbuing instead of low end runic production is durability. Loot at 450 cap needs to have max durability at loot and not in the 30-40 rang. New players cannot find vendors with armor and weapons for this very point. Runic market will survive purely from the Arms Lore/GM bump points for armor. Weapons made by GM Arms Lore needs a DI option added or not on tools.

Funny thing is players complaining on chat PoF is 250k+ per jar. Then complain about uber armor pieces max imbued being priced over a million gold. Pay OR train the crafting skills gather and fill BODs hunt the mini champs for hours. Burn at least two jars and imbue to max, enhance to beat the Jones's to have it break and repete. In their understanding to this number crunch, they pour salt in the wound by offering some damn forge tool (I'll quit playing before buying one reconizing the running fact they have no clue.) May want to get an economics grad on the team instead of another code mage.

Imbuing revived crafting, but unfortunately nerfed hunting for peices at the same time.

Well, that's not entirely true actually. I still hunt for things to imbue. Or use runics. For example, if I want a hit lightning item, il either burn thru a DC runic, or hunt for it. im too cheap to spend the frags hehe.(and im not a duper, so i dont have a vendor with literally 100-200k+ frags on it)

Probably was inspired by WOW, where you can "enchant" (enhance/imbue items) or "disenchant" (take them apart for "residue and other bits for enhancing). Not sure if any other MMOs have this ability.

I do love it, though, and I agree with you.

My chief complaint with the fishing suit is that before I "bought" it from the clean up guy, it said "Imbuable" on every piece. Once I selected it and it went into my bag, that tag turned into "imbued". It is NOT imbued, it changed on its own instantly. Is this supposed to happen? It did it to every piece I got (one full set of the human type).

When I read this, I was like WHAT? Logged in and confirmed that "can be imbued" suit we got yesterday definitely says "imbued" now.

I also "dislike" that there are no female pieces to any of the new stuff. :(

Edit: Correction, hubby said you can still imbue this suit. They put that property on there to prevent the use of powders on it. We shall see!

To me who spent time designing some newer dresses and cloth graphics back in 1999 I can understand why they are reluctant to add more because of all the frames you have to draw along to make it wearable and not look strange on any mount and in any situation (hard)

but since they have hired graphist, to me its an insult they would make a whole expansion for gargoyles and not add a bit of new content especially with systems that people still enjoy like tailoring. They even had to make stuff "gargoyle only" because they were too lazy to make them fit.

after some time here I even came to see it as a direct insult to woman, while giving tons of gift to brokers, rare traders and other profeteers... (haven't seen any yet on siege or atlantic, female gargoyles)

I stand here and watch in awe as everytime simple requests (stuff I could do in my spare time) go completely ignored while the RARE market is continually being enhanced.

And the fact that its mostly woman with a passion and a heart (we know who those multi-account goddesses are) who make the community work...

to me it's became woman VS. rare brokers...

and I'm eagerly watching the match progress. :pancakes:

Here, again, I don't understand. What "woman" are you referring to? Is it an acronym for.... I don't know... "Worldwide Organization Men again Amazonian N..."... no, doesn't make sense.

(we know who those multi-account goddesses are)
No, please tell me more. I am sure communities on different shards differ from each there very much. I don't play on Atlantic and I know several people with a higher number of accounts, men and women both alike. I see hardly any similarities between those "goddesses", so no, I don't know what you mean.

Again, no offense meant, I just would love to understand your point.

Ah yes... wow. I hardly get a reply that is so ... toughful anymore.

Your honor is appreciated good sire.

Yes all shards are different, but when you lived through so much (beta to trammel) then (SA to current day) you kind of realise how some woman really are "holding things" together.

quickly I am thinking of : Lady Storm, MalagAste, Martyna, Petra, Kimi, Jade, Magdalene, Tina and many... many more this is only what I pulled out of the blue.

These woman unlike many of us multi-account men have held their head high and never faltered under threats or trolling OR pixel "crack"... they have held a very constructive and productive opinion ; have voiced it even under heavy scrutiny and flaming... and most of all they have persevered even when they were proven wrong (even in the most humbling ways)...

We men tend to fall into a political position so easily, we have been manipulated much more than them. If you look at all our combined "brain power" (and I certainly am lucky to have the perspective to do so) and how our petty bickering has divided us ; you understand how treating everyone equally has its share of problems.

Mainly the fact that doing publishes and booster to profit "men" is going to end up on either side of the political spectrum, and that by ignoring woman like Lady Storm (who has over 40 accounts) we are shooting ourselves in the feet so to speak.

Now I'm not going to go into categorizing these woman, for obvious reasons as I am not looking to start a political debate here, this is an ethical debate and related to :

I can handle the constant insult to the "virtues" and why UO is being molded after the WoW model which is much more profitable... heck I can even handle people insulting me directly ; I'm not important in the bigger picture.

However standing here and reading this thread about those new additions, when a simple tailoring booster (which is FUN to make for a true graphist) would make ALL of our goddesses, and I emphasize, GODDESSES... happy beyond beleif as their joy is to share what they make.

To me there is no question about it, and there is no surprise that my words would be hard to decypher, because the issue is complex... not complicated, but complex.

Dear Ahuaeyjnkxs,

thank you very much for elaborating. I think I do understand now. And I am sorry for saying "Atlantic" when your profile clearly says "Siege Perilous". Nevertheless, it is not my shard.

I had no idea such goddesses exist but then again I probably have never stuck around for too long in game before leaving for several years. It's a nice thought that they exist and are shaping the world for us.

I don't collect rares and I would love to see some enhancements to the tailoring skill, too. But... to be honest... tinkering should get some attention, too.

Anyway, thank you very much again and happy tailoring for you!

Tailoring is just an example... I agree all other professions, and if you look at the woman I am talking about, you will realise they have every type of crafter and any "booster" to those would be much more important than creating the WHOLE stygian abyss (which is I admit a nerd fantasy of mine and many other guys)

If you go take a look around on siege and other servers, and you are a normal player or roleplayer... the vendor shops you will enjoy the most have been built by woman.

And I am originally from atlantic... I still go there from time to time to realise how deep the rabithole goes...

In fact on siege if it weren't for those women, my character would not have advanced (and no I did not get gifts exept a LRC suit) I have started from nothing and built up my character the true way, by using the armor and weapons I found on my defeated foes. I'm only at 78 swordsmanship and I have been playing for 3 months almost everyday.

But my house is beautiful, lush with flowers and deco, I am definately having blissful fun just "existing" in the blessed presence of these woman.

For any player who is playing like the game was intended to (read NOT purchase a few millions for 10$ USD) those woman are god send ; they are VERY important. And just to give you a perspective I have brought all my flowers for 500 gp each... and knowing the effort that goes into making them, I feel there should be a "tip" function on vendors.

And the funny fact is , ALL women shops are priced like this (very few exeptions), for a player that plays the game as its intended, funny coincidence ? I think NOT ; I see the difference between passion and ADULTERATED greed.

They should preside over UO, and I'm going to refrain again from very flamable comments...
