Well now there's a thought, they can make the drops shard bound. Or just stop them altogether. *gasp*.
I am a FIRM believer in making the drops "shard bound", but Mesanna had said several times that she will not do that. Just my opinion of course, but it REALLY sounds like the X-sharders who come only to sell the drop seconds after the event is over are just being catered to. Just sayin'. I would also be perfectly fine with removing the drops completely.

On a side note, at the Sonoma meet and greet, Mesanna said that the possibility existed of a "weighted" system that would perhaps help spread the drops in favor of the "home" sharders a bit. That might help keep some of them on the shard they were intended for. FYI, every drop I have ever gotten is locked down on my porch, and will NEVER be sold. I went for the home shard fellowship, not just to make a ton of gold off the drop.

I have to agree..... Most every drop I have ever gotten (excepting those that I got back when you had the chance to get more than one with only one character not by multiboxing)..... I still have. They are incorporated into the design and deco of my homes. They have meaning and they are treasured. Why? Because they were part of the role-play. Because my character went there, participated as a Knight would or should..... and brought them home as a souvenir of his participation in a battle against a foe...

I don't keep them because they are worth XXX million or Billion in gold... They are worth more to me as a memory of a wonderful story and event... one in which my character played a role. I can't buy one from some other player. Not only did my character not earn the reward but I don't have 100's of millions in gold to buy them with. And yes it somewhat irks me that many of the folk buying the items or selling them don't give a **** what the event was about... To them the only meaning in the piece is that it's "rare"... The story behind it is lost along with it's significance. That bothers me. I think UO could find some other way to fuel the greed and the desires of the rares collectors without poisoning the EM events with a bunch of greedy disrespectful jerks who only attend to get a drop so they can make billions. Hence my saying I wish they would either only give clickies.... and so what if 100 extra people show up for it.... really so what... or they should do away with drops...... or they should make them shard bound.

The original post has two main premises.

One, there are not enough EM events on Great Lakes, and the original poster wants more of them.

Two, the original poster does not like the EM events on Great Lakes.

Taken together this equals: "Hold more events that I will not like."

The premise that there are not enough events, relative to other shards, on Great lakes, cannot be sustained with reference to reality.

December events on GL:

http://greatlakes.uoem.net/?p=2995

5. A light month for GL, but still not bad. One of those events was the Governors' council meeting, one was an ongoing event that went on for about a week, and which judging by Global Chat comments and questions about it was pretty popular.

A more typical month was November:

http://greatlakes.uoem.net/?p=2977

7, including the Governors' council meeting.

And October:

http://greatlakes.uoem.net/?p=2977

8, including the council.

Let's check the much-vaunted Atlantic's December events:

http://community.stratics.com/threads/event-schedule-for-december-2014.328065/

2 listed here, no Council meeting for the month. Perhaps there are more December events posted elsewhere?

Catskills, December:

http://community.stratics.com/threads/decembers-events.328893/

Looks like 7, which is pretty good for a holiday month! But two are on the same day and are part of the same festival. A third event also is part of that same festival, but on a different day. And hey, aren't festivals RP by definition? And doesn't that mean the original poster likely would be as unhappy on Cats? (Imagine the post that said this shouldn't count as 7 events.)

LS December:

http://lakesuperior.uoem.net/?p=2397

5. Pretty good! But, oh wait. One looks to be a meet and greet. One looks to be a dart contest? A player could do that. One is the Council meeting. The other two seem RP themed which I think is good! But the original poster seems to disagree.

Baja:

http://community.stratics.com/threads/december-events-2014.327586/

3. Council meeting, regular event (holiday/seasonal themed), and.....pet battles? Players can do that, indeed on Great lakes there used to be a group that'd hold events like that weekly.

Maybe I miscounted some events in there or something. That must be it. But how much could that have mattered, really. How badly could I have miscounted that it'd make this argument more valid. I've provided links, go see.

The second main premise of the post, that the original poster does not like the events on Great Lakes, is about the preferences of the poster. That's not something you really can argue about, preferences are preferences. But I will point out that, if you look at the links I've provided, you'll see that the events that have taken place this week are either RP themed (in which case we're right back to the original poster not liking them), or are nothing a player couldn't do (in which case that generates another potential source of complaint).

And then of course there's the fact that the two premises, taken together, contradict one another.

This was a long-ish post. Many will say "TLDR." It takes but a few lines to spout things contrary to reality. Reality itself is trickier and takes time and space to present.

Really? Hold more events i won't like?

Youve earned the dumbest post of the day award.

Eta. Atlantic's events can be found on atlantic.uoem. net

Same for Catskills I believe

im sure most of you know i do ALOT of events, and i do sell alot but i keep alot too. Id say only about 20 percent of hardcore eventers purely care about the gold and have absolutely no interest in the story or anything other than gold value.

to clarify, what messanna said doesnt make any sense at all. I think she thinks those labeled as "xsharders" are actually transferring around from shard to shard just to do events, while in reality those are all permanent characters on a shard that never ever transfer. there would be no way to differentiate an "eventer" character from a home shard player.

If she would simply crack down on Multiboxing that would give home-shard players alot better chance than any new "sytems" Multiclienting 2 accounts, ok no big deal. But using third party programs to control 5-10 accounts with one set of mouse clicks? thats the problem and trust me its just going to get worse. theres a few people pumping out more and more characters everyday because playing 100 (if the comp can handle it) is the same as controlling 1. I dont buy what mesanna said, that controlling multiboxing is "too hard" for one second. i think its just laziness.

what Could be done in addition to policing Multiboxing/cheating is institute a system that values damage done into the equation along with random. I had suggested this many times as the most fair system and to discourage "noob playing" As it is now, yes its kinda lame that you can take about an hour an make a fresh looting rights character that has just as good a chance as a player whos maxed out and actually plays there on a daily basis.

That being said, "eventing" is a legit game style, just as much as an idocer, pvper, crafter, peerless farmer, etc etc. With tokens where an item is sold doesnt matter. it often makes it back to its home shard. Todays UO is more global anyway. If it werent for housing, shards would have been condensed into 4 or 5 servers anyway.

I'd still do events if there were no drops just for the loot. its fun pvm, live entertainment and pretty much all that keeps me playing UO at this point.

That won't work, what will happen is there will be 5 people there on 50+ accounts. And yeah the flappys give me a headache too lol but I blame game mechanics not the players. As much as it pains me to say it, I do have to agree with smoot. Just kidding I don't even know that is and certainly have no problem with him

Have been playing Legends for a week or so (normally a GL's player) and I must say I was really surprised by Legends EM Avalon. Haven't attended an event yet so I'm not positive if it's a he or she, lol. But Avalon tends to check on us several times a day. Chats and shares event news with us. I also like the events seem to be happening on Saturdays and also the usual council meetings on Wednesday. When's the last time a EM hung around in chat with you answering all my questions about Legends history and such? So far I've been very impressed! I won't comment on GLs as it's rarely I attended events there so I'm not qualified to give an opinion on that. But Legends with it's small friendly family feel to it really has me wanting to make a point to start attending events. It's also very hard to spend gold on Legends btw. You search vendors for something and no one has it, so you ask in chat and 2 or 3 people want to give you the item and are usually mildly insulted when you insist on paying, lol. It's a completely different, and very enjoyable, world!

So there wasnt really this much intention on dragging this thread out.

Primarily it was to address a concern of mine about EMs.

Frankly id rather watch paint dry then attend another one of their roleplaying events.

The non rp events seem few and far between in comparison, but perhaps they are meeting an expectation. it seems to be minimalto me to only meet the bar but, but it seems to keep the vocal minority on here happy.

All in all, the approach I gave to the situation was clearly not the best. I am going to move in a new direction with this instead.

This being said, the thread has outlived any usefulness and should be locked.

Thanks to all who provided their opinion, except Galen who seemed to be going for post count.

Like any shard, we have our share of event problems. Most of which I would say come from off shard, in our small world, if they lived on shard, they would be shunned like a leper.

@Oreo, I've had the pleasure of dealing with you in game. (Sincere, NOT being sarcastic)
The comment about Galen is a little off base, I counted 2-3 posts a lot more by other folks, but any how.
I fall into the "RP" Camp much of the time, but I understand that Lore based or plot line based events aren't
everyone's cup of tea. If you attend GL events regularly, you'll see a pattern, lower turn out, story based, little or NO chance at a drop
this week. When you arrive and the place is packed.. wall to wall with dragons etc you know it's 1 of the 2 drop nights OR that folks
believe it will be. Thus they come, they get bored by all the talk and only want the event to move to the fight to get on with the prizes.

A lot of the shall we say "passion" comes from this pattern. Many of us like our plotlines, this is true, but we still show up and participate
in my of the events which are strictly done for the chance to get together and die or be silly, for lack of a better term. Malachi and Elizabella
are good people, contact either at their email addresses [email protected] (I believe) they'll answer you back eventually, it might take a few
days to a week.

I've organized a number of events in game, and can tell you after a few years, new, novel, etc gets hard to come by. I am pretty sure there is a
place where we can have some events that are walk in, settle into combat or whatever mode and roll and still keep the lore that others of us love.
That said it might take some effort on all our parts to do it, generating ideas, finding time, getting folks to attend.

I was along on that pirate/npc boating player event. You've known me as Melian of MOA. Tempers flare, a great many of us are very protective of
Malachi and Elizabella. It's a thankless miserable job some of the time, been some rough patches, in general to be an EM you have to Love UO.
It's lots of hours, little money, little praise all in addition to a real life job, family etc.

I too am Governor of Minoc. The Royal Council meetings are and were designed to be RP, and it's been a rough road. Governor's have been
trying to host events on shard at least a couple events per Governor per term. Not easy to get the word out. Some of those events are working
with the EMs (minimal stage sets, or character appearances) some of them are strictly on our own.

We certainly don't want to run you off the shard contrary to all the harsh words.
