Is there a term limit on these? I cant help but feel a little slighted when I look at other shards events and compare.it to great lakes.

It seems they are putting minimal effort in to their commitment on great lakes as.the only events are geared towards their royal spy role play which caters to a minority.

They even took a month off until January 13th...

I cant possibly be the only one to feel this way. But maybe I expected more.

I don't know where you are coming from and ..... Perhaps you should READ what being an EM is supposed to be... They are to tell a story and further the metafiction of the game. They aren't just there you give you a drop...

As far as minimal effort goes.... it's probably because they constantly have to put up with a number of jerks who are there only to spoil the event with rants and raves about shutting up and getting to the drops everytime they come to GL's. Remember these are OTHER PLAYERS. They are NOT DEV's. These are players from other shards just like you... who come to GL's out of the kindness of their hearts to put in time to put on an event for everyone to enjoy. And yes they are GEARED towards RP. That's the way it's been since day one.... it's supposed to be that way. It's a story...

Honestly I applaud them for the work they do. They spend quite a lot of time putting on what they do... They don't work 24/7 on UO... remember they play some other shard..... they are PLAYERS ..... they only get paid a tiny bit and are only supposed to be working a certain amount of time... and I'm sure most of them put in FAR more hours than they are paid for. Malachi and Elizabella have had to put up with quite a bit on GL's I should know I've hardly missed a single event. The Governor system again geared towards Role-play.. if you don't like that.... then don't attend.

I happen to enjoy being in the Royal Guard and being a.... I er.... working in that wine shop.

Yeah I couldn't be an EM. OR I wouldnt be one for long before getting fired. No way in H#$% would I put up with some of what they put up with. And a lot of it is off shard players. On Legends we are small, and a fairly tight knit group who know each other, a homebody that starts that would get shunned pretty quick and pretty fiercely.

I still think the EMs should be able to send their asses to Bucs jail for 3 hours, just so the rest of us can enjoy what's going on.

It's okay to be defensive about your type of playstyle and how the EMs there benefit yours. But there's no merit in dismissing other playstyles because it may not benefit you whether there are drops or not.

There will be jerks in role playing and non role playing events, as you say so yourself. So I'm not sure what your point really is there.

Look at Atlantics event the other day. I think that would have been cool to do without a drop, but nada.

Besides the ZOX and Walrus was a few weeks and there is nothing until the 13th and yes they are players who committed themselves to being EMs. If they aren't interested in filling it anymore, they should let someone else fill their shoes.

Finally, resorting to the "if you don't like it then don't attend" argument means you really never had one.

I do feel where the OG poster is coming from.....Chessy EM's do the same thing. i feel like they absolutely hate being Chessys em's....which is fine because most of the shard feels the same about them.... i attended one event there in the last year and was quickly reminded why i stopped going to them...........i was honestly ready to give up on the whole EM system and just be one of these people who goes to asian shards for the billion dollar drops........then i found Legends =) i really love that shard, and EM Avalon. She is so fun and so nice. She jokes and carries on with the players. she dosent vanish in a poof of smoke the second the event is over , glad to be away from us......she loves her players on legends and we love her. She is a shining example of what an EM should be................if your unhappy on your home shard move to Legends they dont mind taking in strays =) they welcomed me with open arms and ive felt more at home there than i ever did in my 15 years on chessy

THIS! GL is the ONLY shard events I go out of my way to try and attend other than my home shard due to how awesome their EM's are. They are involved with the players there, they have dedicated history and story lines, they try and hold 4-6 events per month, they have tram and fel events. What more are you asking for? Good Gosh @ someone complaining that these 2 EM's took some time off for the Holiday Season.

Newsflash from 2009, EMs are here to support roleplay. 95% of their events are RP-based, just as they should be.

Will they do non-RP events? Yes, these happen sporadically, mostly in Fel. They tend to be poorly attended and generally a mess (with some notable exceptions).

The EMs have taken a break every year from mid-December to early-to-mid-January. This happens because they deserve to spend time with their families and because the devs go on holiday as well. Without Mesanna to set up the big stuff and do the drops, their events would be somewhat limited.

The EMs, at least on GL, do one event every Tuesday, and there have been times when we've had upwards of three events in a week. It's rather selfish to begrudge them some time off to recuperate and enjoy the holidays.

They did one fel event in august and one in june....

The story line are either Royal Spy Missions or role play meetings for council or governors. I've attended both types of these role playing, and they weren't my thing. I don't care for sitting looking at the script of the EM and acting it out.

In fact, some of the people that were actively participating (one of them was even a Governor) were the worst ones of all. I mean they really went after the EMs. I felt bad for them.

Saying GL does more events than any other shard is an exaggeration, just look at the calendars.

In my mind, they should be less focused on weekly role play events that you have to accrue points on and do active events where anyone can jump in regardless of what they're doing or if they missed prior events.

Even if they popped a Osiredon once in a while would be more fun...

Another example is a guild sponsored their own event using boats in trammel and "attacked" the ships we were escorting while attacking a few NPC pirate ships. I enjoyed that even though we didn't receive a "drop" from it.

That would have been Jerec-KTM whom was banned from Stratics for bumping heads with the Devs for lack of customer support when others would try to ruin events. He left a lot of gold to the GL community, but let all his accounts lapse and took his event coordinating to another game. Otherwise such events would still be going on.

You say this like there is anyone to replace them.....there isn't.....some of the shards still don't have any EM's at all, and whenever a shard loses their EM, it seems like they usually get a replacement who has already been an EM before and has experience. Not to mention the replacements that don't work out, or end in corruption.

It's a miracle that any shards, have any EM's at all still considering how badly they are treated.

I've been preaching that since the get go.... infact I honestly wish they wouldn't drop anything at ALL. And that they would just have a more of a vending maching clicky for special occasions. Stop all this greeding BS that has been going on all the time.

I also wish they would make more or most of the items "non-transferable". Since I DO have good EM's on GL's it would be nice if people that gave a rats about GL's actually got the drops and they remained on GL's... I"m not about to pay someone 1 or 2 billion in gold just to keep the items on GL's. Heck I don't have anywhere NEAR that sort of gold... Likely not to ever have that anyway since I don't sell my drops I do manage to get.

would you really like to see people with 50 noob accounts show up? as it is you can get rights on a noob character (naked no skills), but generally only 1 at a time and its very hit or miss. i know events can be frustrating THP, and that the shards your closest to time wise are not the easiest (europa doesnt have great drop record, drach has very high competition) but there has to be some cutoff. looting rights is pretty minimal. A little advice, pure mage templates very hit or miss. tamer templates can ususually get with just autoattack if the greater dragon is healed. tamer / weaver almost always gets rights if you have a focus. archer / thrower is best template to get rights. just find / target boss before its half life and looting rights is pretty much guaranteed, especially if you have correct slayer. As it is right now, people are pumping out looting rights characters fast. if not even rights were required i can see 500 plus characters being at every event, when currently there are usually 75 - 100 characters.

then i would suggest emailing mesanna to go back to clickies. or just try to adapt to whatever system is in place. Hell lineman complained about the old system that actually promoted strong characters, making your character better, and giving everyone an equal chance to do that. Now its just a numbers game where the people with most accounts get the most drops with very little emphasis put on actually playing a character well. Im very transparent that i play 2 characters, and yes its very frustrating when i see players controlling 6 at a time using third parties. No sense complaining tho.

What shards are still missing EMs? I think there are more people that would be interested than you think. If i had more time even I would do it.

I already provided a couple examples..

You suggested popping a Scalis and hunting pirates. Both of these happen daily on most shards and don't require any special powers to accomplish, FCB and G-V did net toss events frequently. DSD randomly does public Corguls and Scalis. These are not things an EM should be wasting their time on, players have this covered.

EM events step way outside the limitations of player-run events. They're meant to enhance the collective metafiction while weaving stories unique to each shard. Yes, most of the story arcs are highly serialized, so if you miss one or two the story can get confusing...but so can missing multiple episodes of a modern scripted TV show. On GL, Malachi does a good job of quickly summarizing the arc before each mission and giving a chance for people to ask questions both before and after.

FYI: it takes a measly three Tuesday events to accrue enough points for one of the spy promotional items, given out in Jan and June.

Or, at one time during the Moonglow (Shadowlords?) event, we were told that those of us who showed up the first night (when nothing was happening) would be logged and get special things the next day. problem is, clickies have been tried, and abandoned. im not against the idea of them being around once in a while, for people that have absolutely no interest in actually playing a character, or cant because its not a home shard, have no developed characters, and just want to check it out.

fact of the matter is tho, clickies are boring. we already see it at the regular events. over 50 percent of characters sit afk till the boss. Do we really want to promote that even more? there would be absolutely no reason to even develop a character at all, even enough to get looting rights, if all events were purely clickies.

Clickies could better if they were random (completely unannounced) and were slipped into an event without fanfare. I.e. the next gate went to the unreachable valley in Ilshenar instead of the next story location. Active participants get a trinket, while those who were AFKing are SOL. The story then continues.

A system like this would be far preferable to the currently abused system where the same people nearly always get the item. EM events shouldn't be opportunities for obscene profit.

clikies would work and it would help the home shard people/player to actaully get a home shard item/keepsake too instead of xshard hoards looking for pots of gold.....thoughts Devs

When event starts, lock the door to the EM hall. End of event, EM gates to inside the hall, sets a clicky out, if you werent at the end of event you dont get anything... And just let the clicky set there for a few minutes, then close it down. At least this way people clouldnt click, run change accounts, come back click, ad nauseum, unless they had all those accounts at the end of event to catchc the gate. Theres lots of ways to solve the issue, but a lot of people dont really want it fixed, more souvenirs means less $$$ for them...

It's cool I guess they can put this much effort into role play, and who knows, maybe that's where the mysterious drops are you speak of. I'm not sure what Dirty Deeds and Autumn Leaves festival were because I missed them but the rest are role playing.


All I'm saying is a change up would be nice.

You suggested popping a Scalis and hunting pirates. Both of these happen daily on most shards and don't require any special powers to accomplish, FCB and G-V did net toss events frequently. DSD randomly does public Corguls and Scalis. These are not things an EM should be wasting their time on, players have this covered.

EM events step way outside the limitations of player-run events. They're meant to enhance the collective metafiction while weaving stories unique to each shard. Yes, most of the story arcs are highly serialized, so if you miss one or two the story can get confusing...but so can missing multiple episodes of a modern scripted TV show. On GL, Malachi does a good job of quickly summarizing the arc before each mission and giving a chance for people to ask questions both before and after.

FYI: it takes a measly three Tuesday events to accrue enough points for one of the spy promotional items, given out in Jan and June.

It's the idea that people can come in and do the event and enjoy it without having to follow months worth of story line and listen to 40 minutes worth of roleplaying.

The Tuesday events on GL are very serialized, rich in local and meta lore. I find it hard to believe that Malachi would ever change that, though that's not to say that there haven't been one-off spy events before. There's also going to be a lot RP, these are stories after all. Its unlikely this will change either. We have to have a reason to give a damn about killing all those mobs after all!

Their non-Tuesday events, barring the Royal Council, tend to be one-off or holiday-type events that aren't necessarily as steeped in RP.

I'd suggest you read their website or their Stratics forum for the event descriptions.

You can even keep trying once they've begun shredding you and letting the necropigs reanimate your wiggly bits. Although, they might find that ice cream-covered goblin is quite tasty....so... this is an at your own risk thing.
