along with animal lore and vetting.

Not a rant...just a suggestion.

It would solve so many of the problems in UO. Just wipe them off the books. Delete all of the player owned pets outside of a pack mule, and all of the jewelry/items to give gains for the taming skills.

Now that would improve the game tremendously...la

It's true though. Just think about a couple of the major problems in UO today...

Too much gold in the economy (outside of dupes).
PvP balancing

Both are centered around taming. Eliminate the cause and the effect will eventually work themselves out...la

A little extreme, isn't it?

I dont have a tamer and I myself think they are outrageously overpowered, but scrapping that entire aspect of the game will do nothing but **** off a lot of people who logged in countless hours building the skill.

Yes it took me years to get my tameing to 120. If I did all that work for nothing, and the taming was wiped entirly, theres no doubt in my mind I would quit. And so would ALOT of other people.

Tamers are not the primary, or even secondary, cause of too much gold in the economy. I've have several hundred million gold sitting in various places, and my Tamer MIGHT have contributed maybe 500k of that.

I've heard of loose logic before but man, that logic is as loose as a one dollar hooker.

It's bound to happen, but then again...how many players have quit because of the fact that tamers are so unbalanced with the other classes in the game?...la

Nah, just bring in the glass sword from Ultima 6 which would kill a dragon in one hit.

I will say that Rico has a point about Thiefs getting screwed over.

If Tamers got treated like Thieves it would be hilarious.

Tamers already complain about things and they have a 2 hit kill weapon in PvP and they have something that can tank every single monster in the game.

Quite silly actually. Especially when you consider to be an amazing tamer...all it takes 360 skill points. (120 vet, lore and taming) and you could argue that only 100 vet is needed.

Where as being an amazing Thief takes: Stealing, Stealth, Hiding, Snooping, Ninjitsu = 600 skill points

But to compare...since with 360 skill point you can PVM anything in the game...

Compare that to an amazing Dexer...which would take all 720 skill points and equipment costing you 100's of millions of gold to be able to tank what a Greater/Cu does.

Even an amazing mage takes all 720 skill points to be able to solo everything.

Seriously, think about that...every other template takes all their skill points and millions of gold to play the game. Tamers only need 360 and still are more powerful than everything else.

How does one acquire so much gold? And I don't mean by selling stuff. I mean how does the physical gold itself come in to the game in such quantities? From monsters right? So what class are you using that produces millions of gold? I want to make one!

For as long as I've played this game, tamers have always been the class to earn gold with...back in the day, you didn't see solo mages or warriors running around killing elder gazers...nope...that was the tamers who would camp those spots for hours on end...la

Maybe, but then a bit better AI which attacks the tamers more would also help?
I was pretty surprised when the UO emulator AI attacked me instead of my pet and I had to adapt to play.

Primarily my Sampire or my Archer. I've never been much interested in playing either a Tamer or a caster type character. I've got both, I just rarely use them. I guess I'm more of a hands on, beat 'em into submission type rather than the sit back and let pets or summons do all the work type. I would also add that my Smith has made more gold by doing Bods than my Tamer and caster character put together.

Lil more then 360, #1 how are you getting there if your pets unbonded, how do you heal yourself when injured or poisoned (pots won't keep ya alive) ??? It takes magery, so approx 100 there. Now Ol school thieves didn't have ninja to be good & run away as a pup, I know many & I mean many with only Stealing, Hiding & snooping, No Steath as a 4th (like a tamer needing magery) Stealth isn't a requirement, yes it's helpful as all, not not a requirement. Many were fencers, w/tactics w/DP kryss's. Now Ninja is again an ADD on Like either Eval or Med would be to the tamer w/magery. Now to be even a better Tamer add on Chiv to take off mortal.
All this thread is, is a :stir: to get many going... Be alot easier dumping the Thieves skill then the tamers. Far less thieves then tamers & I have a 120 thief. Sure would be alot less :sad3: & :rant2::cursing: thats for sure

Unless you have some facts, and proof to back them up, you're only stating opinion. I can make more gold per hour with my warrior than any Tamer can, and that's a fact.
Not without 720 skill points and hundreds of millions of gold spent on items.
Especially now that the Sampie got nerfed.

Your correct Lim on that one. I can eat up gold on my warrior far better then on any of my Leg tamer's can.

My sampire is my main farming weapon. 2nd my bard 3rd my mage which i use mostly for doom and my tamer I only use for peerless. But in the last 12 month I made almost 300mil from my craftmen in 1 vender and buy sell endeavears without even once using or selling a hammer above gold I keep the higher ones for special occasion so he supports my fun when i want to hunt for a bit with friends or solo. Everyone has there own end game.

Guess which of my chars got all the gold to set up the warrior character to begin with?

If you guessed the warrior character himself you were right. As I said, my Tamer has made MAYBE a total of 500k total. My meleer and archer have gotten the majority of the rest.

And thats the reason you see more than usual taming nerf request. Because the tamers where finding ways to nerf the sampires untill they found a good reason to get them nerf and force the dev to chage the you need to keep the skill in order to keep the form even though sampires only use necro for that one spell as the others are useless to them. So the sampires ajusted there templates and still kick ass just can't have healing skil in the templates so no more crosshealing with friends and just soloing it's really the only template of the sampire that was effected. But the sampires remmember oh yes they remmeber and now they want to make sure tamers get nerf and will find the way to get there pets nerf for revenge!!. Of course after this tamers will take offence and will attack the warriors again using uohall as there battleground to nerf skills. Yep class warfare it never will end untill dev decide hey this nerfing thing aint working it's time to balance up.

Is this sampire or wampire? If it's sampire might as well bring necro down a couple of .2 points and add .1 smith .1 tailoring and collect bards from it :) but looks like you made it so it can be both wampire and sampire.

nice solution, but is only a part of the problem.
remove all skills and put only 2: fighting and magic
remove all weapons and spells and add 2 new one: a sword and the fireball spell

here a balanced game without trouble XD

ah I forget to say that if you die you must make your character again... if they maintain the resurrection we have the reskill problem :p

So lets say they nerf taming tomorrow to oblivion, and tell me which of the following panoramas is most probable:

1-People accepts it,they give up their 120 tamer that built up over the millenias and
thanks the devs to finally open their eyes at fact that a skill that takes a milion years
to raise chasing bulls and other random stupid animals doesnt deserve the power that
lets say a mage or a warrior that people macro in 2 days.

2-Quit

Be honest

I can't tell if you are serious, joking, or just trying to troll a bit.

Tamers are as important to this game as warriors, mages, bards, or crafters. Getting rid of taming would leave the game a hollow shell of what it had been.

Thievery (stealing, stealth, and snooping), on the other hand, I just don't see what that adds to the game.

When I opened this thread I just knew it was going to be a joke. Imagine my utter surprise when I discovered it was serious.

I have several Legendary Tamers. I don't do PvP. It took me a long time to get even one to GM taming much less Legendary.

I am not rich, although at one I was considered rich and even got a temporary ban because the powers that be just knew I had to be doing something wrong to have that much gold at the time. They eventually realized the error of their ways, wrote me a very nice apologetic e-mail (which I still have) and reinstated my account. How did I make that much gold? ESCORTING! NOT TAMING.

As for now, when I want to make gold I use my BARD not my tamer!

I apolgoze if my temper shows through in my post but I am soooooo tired of people whining about tamers. When I go to Destard it's not the tamers that are inconsiderate and swoop in for the kill after you have worked on a monster for a while, it's the archer or the swordsman or even the mage. There are bad people in EVERY class in UO, not just the tamers!

While I'll agree there's a point starting an obvious troll to bring it up (regardless of if he thinks it's one or not) is not the way to go about it.

I personally play Tamers and Thieves, I know both sides of the coin. Tamers are not the best money making characters left. I can farm much faster on a Sampire than I can a Tamer with less over all chance of my character getting killed. Tamers are one of the better though and one of the easiest to use once developed which is the major reason for their popularity. They facilitate lazy players both in PvM and PvP. The majority of the Greater Dragons I see on Prodo in Felucca being used in PvP are used by gate huggers. On Siege they have a much more dramatic effect, and on Siege yes, I'd say that they are probably the biggest Gold earners but this is simply not true for production shards. I do agree though that Tamers have too many "Set it and Forget it" type pets like the Cu Sidhe and the Greater Dragon that only need the players assistance when dealing with top, or upper tier monsters. I'm all for a nerf to both of those, mainly in the Cu Sidhe's healing ability and the Greater Dragons damage output Specifically in PvP for the GD's. Me Personally I still prefer my Rune Beetle/Kitsune unless the situation dictates that I will probably get killed regardless of what I take so I carry one of the bigger pets to minimize the risk of getting looted.
