Did Voting Change Discourage Cross Shard Vote?

So it's one vote per account per shard, is that what this is all about?

I made my post about how cross shard voting is still going to go on unhindered after the voting changes. The voting changes did nothing to rectify the problem other than to punish people that take the time to vote on all of their characters. For a system that has been changed to focus on RP, it just seemed very anti RP for not solving the problem of cross shard voting. If a person roleplays on several different characters across several cities, they should be able to vote in those cities.

I'm not personally concerned about any of that... I just wanted to get a clarification of the changes made to the voting system, that's all.... So it was 1 vote per char per shard, and not it's one vote per account per shard - Is that correct?

That is correct! We went from one vote per character per shard to one vote per shard.

And it changes NOTHING about people buying votes. They can still do it... Changes nothing about XShard Voting People can still buy votes off shard...

Honestly the only thing it's done is prevent many RP Characters from voting Period. Suppose it makes it easier for RPers to decide where to put there loyalty and makes it easier to NOT care about maintaining any loyalty to other cities on other Characters on an account as what would be the point now of continuing to support them if you can't vote there.

Currently now only a small fraction of peoples characters now have any say in their town. People who play multiple characters on one account are now limited to only 1 voice for all 7 of their characters. Why this was done I really don't know. Would have worked better if they had changed it to limiting you to voting on one shard per account. Then you would really see where someone's loyalty was. Maybe that's the next move. One vote per account period.

I advocated one-account-one-vote after the first election cycle. If we can't have that, let's at least have an in-game moratorium on declaring loyalty during the two weeks.

I think the election system is rather annoying negatively effects RP. Anyway you look at it though I do agree that swapping loyalty during the election period perhaps should be restricted. But sadly the entire thing is not at all what anyone really had expected and honestly if there is little to nothing to be able to change or do during the terms then my BEST suggestion would be that honestly they need to move the election periods to 6 months instead of 3 because after having been elected every time so far I find it a royal pain to go thru elections so often. Feels like I'm barely back in office before we are up for election again. Can't really get much done and surely can't really plan and do a whole lot around your term if you aren't sure your going to be in office next time. Just saying.

At anyrate it has turned into just One more meeting during the month to attend instead of being out playing UO and having fun. If we had known early on that the entire system would be nothing more than a way to drain gold from your pocket and really isn't much for anything more than that and a meeting once a month. Since I can hold events on my own and they won't help with anything. You can't better your city. You can't decorate your city, you can't get your city updated... like adding a long missing dock..... or such though happy for Vesper finally getting their stable..... whatever ....... It really irks me that you honestly can't do anything at all but drain your gold and attend yet another meeting. We on GL's already "have" a council formed by loyal subjects to the cities.... this just adds a glorified tag over your head. If I knew that would be all that would come of these things I think I would have voted that we all ignore the system and go about our RP lives..... however given we are loyal to Blackthorn and all we feel somewhat forced to participate.... so now instead of meeting once every 2 weeks now we meet every two weeks and once a month..... 3 times in a month I take up my nights to sit at a table. Time I can't work on my skills, can't gather artifacts, can't dungeon crawl, and can't run an event. I want to support the EM's and all because I feel that is VERY important but really I fail to see the benefit of running for office and getting elected... if I can't "do" anything for my city that I couldn't already do myself. I can run my own events I don't need to be the Governor to do it, especially if they aren't going to help in any way.

I asked last time wtf we were supposedly able "TO" do as far as requesting something. I have yet to get a straight answer about what exactly CAN be asked for and granted. Many folk don't have 24/7 to play... Sadly some just see the Governorships as some wonderous thing but I haven't found that to be the case. I was the Mayor of Yew elected by the Citizens of Yew for YEARS LONG before any in-game election system put a spiffy title over my head. And I would continue to care about my city for as long as I remain in the game, with or without the election system. It was a major part of my RP for years to be "attempting" to cure the plague that was in Yew... Not that I ever thought I could ..... and not that I ever considered they would finally clear up my city. (Still thankful for that)... but I would still be RPing that if it were still there... Infact would have been something I would have begged the King to do, would have been to help me cure my Homeland. When the invasions were in my city I had folk announcing a Call to Arms to rid it of the invasion forces.

Sadly I see little coming from the system so far. I got a building I can't do anything with, a Bulletin board almost no one uses, a storage spot in the stone NO ONE has used, and a ballot box that I put up and 2 whole people voted on. Maybe on Atl the system gets more use but on GL's its hardly worth it..... maybe if I knew more than the 2 whole folk were actually USING the Trade Agreement but I can't even see if that's being used. I sure don't use it. Seems to me that it's a waste of gold. I don't know about anyone else but I think my 2 mill could be put to more use.

One vote per account is the only solution against cross shard trading. Unfortunately Mythic is trying to split the baby.

I'm for it. If I can't vote on all my characters, then I should only be able to vote once per account.

changing to this new system just makes it easier for people to cheat and buy votes....if last election someone bought 100 votes for 1 mil each they had to use 100m, now they might only need to spend 10 mil because their opponents votes have decreased....a totally pointless change.

I've not really kept up with all this voting and governors etc. I didn't really interest me to be honest. Can governors actually do anything yet? (apart from sit on the chair in the office). Can they lock stuff down in cities and stuff like that?

How is it good for role play if they can only do all the same things as a citizen, or is it all about the titles they can issue?

I've seen people like "finance minister" "treasurer" etc but do they even have access to the funds stored on the city stones, and apart from the trade deals what can this money be used for?

I saw some nice fountains of life added in one city. I doubled clicked them and it just told me I needed to be in my house to use it!?!

PS: at this stage I'd happily sell my vote to the highest bidder. Don't worry it will remain anonymous :)

Governors can only set the trade deals, but have no access to funds on a city stone beyond that. Other then giving titles, they have no additional abilities.

Unless I misunderstood, the main function of the town governors is that of liaison with the king and his representatives?

I think anyone can turn up to these meetings. The ones held at Blackthorns castle right?

Anyone can go, but (usually) only the governors may speak with the king.

Or someone has to spend 5 million per vote and may get only 10, because one-shard-one-vote means someone will want a very high price for not voting for a friend.

Rule of Acquisition #98: "Ever man has his price."

Or, to put a twist on what's been misattributed to Groucho Marx:

Groucho: Would you vote for me for ten million dollars?
Woman: Oh, Groucho, of course I would.
Groucho: How about for fifteen dollars?
Woman: Why, what do you think I am?
Groucho: That's already been established. Now we're just haggling about the price.

Liaison for what exactly? Won't change anything... still can't get anything done and if we wanted the "king" to know something ALL of us I think KNOW how to Email our EM's... so other than adding another meeting to my busy schedule I still fail to see the point to all this.

But wait..you get an in-game title!! The system is complete!! Hopefully this is how they are testing it and plan to implement a more robust system eventually

One can but hope but so far I have only heard a whole lot of what they WON'T do.... and very, very little of what they "will" do.
