I advocated one-account-one-vote after the first election cycle. If we can't have that, let's at least have an in-game moratorium on declaring loyalty during the two weeks.
I think the election system is rather annoying negatively effects RP. Anyway you look at it though I do agree that swapping loyalty during the election period perhaps should be restricted. But sadly the entire thing is not at all what anyone really had expected and honestly if there is little to nothing to be able to change or do during the terms then my BEST suggestion would be that honestly they need to move the election periods to 6 months instead of 3 because after having been elected every time so far I find it a royal pain to go thru elections so often. Feels like I'm barely back in office before we are up for election again. Can't really get much done and surely can't really plan and do a whole lot around your term if you aren't sure your going to be in office next time. Just saying.
At anyrate it has turned into just One more meeting during the month to attend instead of being out playing UO and having fun. If we had known early on that the entire system would be nothing more than a way to drain gold from your pocket and really isn't much for anything more than that and a meeting once a month. Since I can hold events on my own and they won't help with anything. You can't better your city. You can't decorate your city, you can't get your city updated... like adding a long missing dock..... or such though happy for Vesper finally getting their stable..... whatever ....... It really irks me that you honestly can't do anything at all but drain your gold and attend yet another meeting. We on GL's already "have" a council formed by loyal subjects to the cities.... this just adds a glorified tag over your head. If I knew that would be all that would come of these things I think I would have voted that we all ignore the system and go about our RP lives..... however given we are loyal to Blackthorn and all we feel somewhat forced to participate.... so now instead of meeting once every 2 weeks now we meet every two weeks and once a month..... 3 times in a month I take up my nights to sit at a table. Time I can't work on my skills, can't gather artifacts, can't dungeon crawl, and can't run an event. I want to support the EM's and all because I feel that is VERY important but really I fail to see the benefit of running for office and getting elected... if I can't "do" anything for my city that I couldn't already do myself. I can run my own events I don't need to be the Governor to do it, especially if they aren't going to help in any way.
I asked last time wtf we were supposedly able "TO" do as far as requesting something. I have yet to get a straight answer about what exactly CAN be asked for and granted. Many folk don't have 24/7 to play... Sadly some just see the Governorships as some wonderous thing but I haven't found that to be the case. I was the Mayor of Yew elected by the Citizens of Yew for YEARS LONG before any in-game election system put a spiffy title over my head. And I would continue to care about my city for as long as I remain in the game, with or without the election system. It was a major part of my RP for years to be "attempting" to cure the plague that was in Yew... Not that I ever thought I could ..... and not that I ever considered they would finally clear up my city. (Still thankful for that)... but I would still be RPing that if it were still there... Infact would have been something I would have begged the King to do, would have been to help me cure my Homeland. When the invasions were in my city I had folk announcing a Call to Arms to rid it of the invasion forces.
Sadly I see little coming from the system so far. I got a building I can't do anything with, a Bulletin board almost no one uses, a storage spot in the stone NO ONE has used, and a ballot box that I put up and 2 whole people voted on. Maybe on Atl the system gets more use but on GL's its hardly worth it..... maybe if I knew more than the 2 whole folk were actually USING the Trade Agreement but I can't even see if that's being used. I sure don't use it. Seems to me that it's a waste of gold. I don't know about anyone else but I think my 2 mill could be put to more use.
