Custom Content Upload test

I know we're not supposed to be able to do this til later this afternoon/evening, but it is working for me right now. I uploaded 3 images so far with 2 different sims. Seems to work ok, just haven't got approval yet.

Any idea if they are going to make it so the name of the sim who created the painting will appear on it? I feel who ever creates it should at least get the credit they deserve so noone buys a painting from a store and then tells everyone "I made that".

Lighten up - tests are necessary to ensure that the game can catch the porn and prevent it from getting in.

Ok. I'm going to answer my own question.

After exiting game and launching again...nothing changed.
After logging into another sim...nothing changed
After logging into another account....nothing changed.
Rebooted computer....nothing changed.
Ran repair on EA-land...nothing changed.

I was forever stuck seeing the "?" instead of a picture on one CC stand.

I then located my custom content cache

C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EALand\TSOClient\userdata\custom_content_cache\objects

Call me stupid or call me brave....I just deleted all files with a create/modify date of today.

When I re-launched game, I went to my property and was finally able to reload all the CC properly.

I noticed my "objects" folder in custom content cache is already 14mb in size. While having all of these things cached probably makes landing on properties faster because I don't have to download their CC again.....I'm wondering if we need to have a way of clearing our cache without having to dig through our system looking for these files oursleves.

names, people were asked to test the system....including the system in place to stop the uploading of inappropriate material.

The system can not be tested unless someone tries to upload inappropriate things....as they have been asked to do, in this instance. These tests are very necessary if the players you want to protect, are to be protected in the regular game.

I am sure that there will be consequences for players trying to break the rules in EALand, but it is counter productive to suggest 'punishing' testers in TC3, for doing as requested and helping to build the strongest system possible in the first place.

Being a player in TC3 , I can assure you that you have not been exposed to any porn what so ever. At this stage of testing all images are being manually approved or disapproved. The fact that someone attempted to upload porn really doesn't concern me at this point because it is a test and the public in no way has been exposed to it. If by doing so, they enlightened the powers that be, to the fact that there are individuals that will try this and precautions must be taken to prevent it.

As testers we are asked to push the limits and this is one of those instances.

Porn exists if society fails to take action to address the issue, I raised issue as it is not a joking subject. As I am sure ea also does think.

And why is there a choice for 'NAUGHTY' things to upload? If this is not being allowed why would we have it? couldn't the dev. team have tested this? Instead of putting in the game and giving minors the chance like names indicated, why couldn't one dev do it and others check to see if it goes through or not. I just think this would make more sense. Or perhaps TC3 should have been designed for 18 + then there would be no limits in the tests (well maybe not no limits)

I think the game WILL be rated for a more mature audience -- eventually. As I understand it, "adult" material will be allowed in future, but will carry a rating so that players can decide if they want to avoid it.

Honestly, I don't know why there is any uproar at this point. I've played this game for years and there has always been material unsuitable for youngsters (even though youngsters were often the source). Name a perversion or porn flavor and I'll bet it has been in game. Pictures -- that is the only addition.

If anyone thinks this game has been, or ever will be, "for kids" they are living in a fool's paradise. Anything that happens online has potential to provide very adult material.

Personally, I don't really care to see TSO turned into a XXX rated game. If I wanted porn, I'd be at a much different website. So I appreciate the efforts being made to keeping the filth to a minimum.

When/if the game ever goes to a mature rating, I think I will definitely strongly consider leaving and I won't be alone going either.

As it is still at this point in time rated T 13+ I agree that ea never seemed to bother what teens had access to in tso. I too have been playing since alpha/beta and I think back then, we were all surprised it was made as a rating of T. (since in alpha/beta there was no rating.) I think Names post was more out of protest of the fact there was nothing mentioned.. porn will not be allowed nor tollerated but instead IF you do it don't make them ugly (I understand this was more said in jest as joke), but in names line of work he finds nothing humorous in the possibiity of minors accessing nor producing any form of porn. I would also find it equally offensive thinking if EA is encouraging miners to test out and see if they can produce porn that can slip though the system (since they have full access and I'm sure a much broader imagination, to the test as any adult has in TC3)*per Gilly's post* which goes with your statement about minors always having access to things like a love bed, hot tub etc.*I know those aren't your exact words* (Never could understand why they would put that in game with this rating since lets face it... look at the position one of the partners comes out from under the blanket.) Yes as an adult I could find this funny but not if this could involved a minor. As a parent of grown children and young &amp; older grandchildren of my own, I find it sometimes appalling that EA could have encouraged or failed to insure minors do not participate. per post again asking for 'naughty' things. (again all ages having access in TC3) Also the comment of no warning neccessary since only Paz. is only one to view these, (which I believe Paz herself stated Luc showed them to her so that means who else) but what about a warning if you are within a certain age group do not partipate or something to that matter. You would think ea would want to protect themselfs in some manner too, SINCE there are laws against minors and porn.
Somebody mentioned sl... hasn't the FBI (or some form of law enforcement)gone after some in there who were adults protraying themselfs as minors making Linden Lab produce all their records?

There is a "choice" to upload any bitmap image (file type .bmp). It's not like there are categories for 'funny', 'cute, 'artsy', 'naughty'. As I understand it, any bmp file can be uploaded, but only those approved by EA will make it into the game.

You haven't been paying attention for the last month, have you? Every single problem we've had with the game has been fully tested by the dev team <u>before</u> they released it to us. How well did that work out? Because they test on <u>their</u> computers on <u>their</u> network, they can't possible test as well as we can. That is why they are letting us test uploading images and they screen the image manually before it is released in the game.

Gilly already linked you to the blog thread: Upload Custom Content on Thursday!!. Once you are there, click Edit then Find from your browser menu (or ctrl F works too) then type naughty in the search box. Finally got to test CC this morning. After I received the e-mail that my cc was approved I eagerly went to my house to view my pic on a stick. Unfortunately all I saw was the big question mark.

I tried reentering my property several times plus many of the things you tried Gracie. Nope still saw a big ? mark. So I bravely followed your instructions to clear the latest files from my custom content cache folder. Voila that worked so thank you Gracie very much for that advice.

The information tab about my picture was wrong and not mine however eventually that cleared up too. One problem that I still have is when using the content viewer I see black and white "static" instead of my picture. Can anyone clue me in on what causes that and how I can fix it for future pictures.

I think it would be great if someone could write a guide on how to create and size a picture correctly for the CC. I can't wait till we can expand this to putting our pictures in frames for our walls and the theater backdrop. Great job guys! I also can see new jobs for self employed sims developing from this. Photography studios, portrait painters, etc., in game. Way to go!

I found that the best size picture to have is 250 pixels width by 300 pixels height. That seems to fill the entire picture stand. For those that only see static on the content view, I have been told that is caused by pictures in 16bit. I really have no clue what that means.

With paint shop pro, I am able to save my pictures as bmp with rle compression and they work fine. Anyone using paintshop pro can change the options of their bmp files to be rle compressed when you save them. Someone with adobe photo shop told me they save theirs with "256 color". whatever that means.

That draws a perfect example in itself of the point and it is not off thread.


This is a 13+ game and as such far more care has to be taken, people who attempt or attempted to upload porn imagery should be terminated, as one day minors may be subjected, fail safe measures are never enough. that is proven by the failures in testing of uploads already.

WARNING NOTICES ...... SHOULD AND ARE NECESSARY MEASURES THAT SHOULD ALWAYS BE INCORPORATED so no minor should be placed in any form of immoral situation or dangers.

Ok thanks. That must be what messed me up because I did choose to save my bmp in 16bit rather than 32bit. I am using Adobe Photoshop Elements and this software is new to me. I have a lot to learn.

How dare you attack my principals or my vigilance in matters concerning what is happening within the game as the main part of my posting involves the raising of the protecting of MINORS. I find it disturbing that more ADULTS have not shown more concern that MINORS are openly encouraged and given the opportunity to attempt naughty/porn in the painting. As most people are aware the steps that are being taking to 'police' the gaming world and the involvement of minors, why would EA representives now openly encourage minors to do so and throw caution to the wind. From my understanding from what was reported here to have been said in the pub (and of course this may have changed) EA may not have the manpower to fully 'police' all CC and stated that will be left to the community to do so. If this is the case, then at that time does this mean that items may slip in? Anybody can see the result of some internet games when the 'policing' was left to the community.

Being you stated there is no option in the catagory on what is uploaded, maybe since this is a rated T game EA should have waited until they changed the rating from T to M to incorporate this part of CC into EA. (if this is still being concidered the intention)
