Your mileage will vary, of course. These are just my pet peeves. Your input or ruminations are welcome. If you are gonna troll, kindly teleport to the Jhelom docks and take a long walk.

These are my pet peeves. They are not demands for change. A few of them really cant be addressed anyway. On the positive side, I had a difficult time coming up with 20. before 2005 I could do 40 easily. So progress is there. :)

Anyhoo here we go.

1 - Empty Vendors. If Vendors without goods are not restocked in a reasonable time frame, they need to be collapsed.

2 - The Virtue System. It would be nice if we could keep our paths tip-top without having to devote so much gametime trying to revive the degradation caused by, heaven forbid, doing something else in game.

3 - While I have no problem with people working an event for extra items, I hate people working an event and interfering with other players' completion of the event because they want to sell them the key items.

4 - Overall lack of effort for the fall seasons. Recycled Halloween without a significant event, no Thanksgiving, and just another boring trinket Christmas.

5 - Imbuing making every magic item perhaps found during adventuring utterly worthless. I've stopped looking at item properties on any thing I find, because an imbued item would be miles better than the most powerful weapon or armor the RNG will spit out.

6 - GM support. To be fair, they have worked out many of the more desperate oh-my-friggin-God-I-need-intervention-right-NOW-or-I'm-screwed panic moments, but still, every once in a while you find one, and a pizza will get to your house a lot faster than even a canned response from the GM bot.

7 - Incompatible class blending. This is a matter of personal taste and you certainly may not agree. That's fine. But I don't like the fact a Necromancer and a Paladin can be in the same body. You can't be an Autobot and a Decepticon at the same time. Sure, in game terms it is simply another avenue of skill and should be irrelevant. But I can't help but object to the obvious dichotomy with what the classes stand for in a traditional sense. It's silly.

8 - Too many races. Really, we didn't need the elf class, and we sure didn't need the Gargoyle Class. Aside from tweaks here and there it's really just unnecessary gift paper around your toon.

9 - Recall and Gating. Exploring in this game is a lost art. It's inconceivable for most people to actually TRAVEL somewhere or make a journey if it is not on a boat. Just go to a rune library and whoom you are there. Note that this can be labelled as inevitable for a game this long-lived, but it's still a pet peeve. It's not a request for a change.

10 - "Artifacts" in the game that are so friggin useless, the stuff you find on monster's corpses is far superior.

11 - 4 levels. Come on, this is a world where castles are supposed to have pennant-whipping spires that pierce the clouds. But we never have any buildings in this world bigger than a modest University library, no matter how imposing they are supposed to be. That's just silly.

12 - Imbalance with Tamers and Fighter Damage. Every time we have a new enemy, the way the game makes it "challenging" is to grant a monster a ludicrous titanic hitpoint pool that no fighter in the game could ever hope to whittle down, simply because tamed pets dish out so much damage.
All well and good but remember we fighters only have just over 100 hitpoints in the best circumstance. Too many monsters in this game can only be beaten by a solo fighter with a lot of time, potions, bandies and luck, whereas a tamer can sic em boy, invis'es and then goes off to make a sandwich. I know tamers are a a pancake to build up to be viable, but still, the gulf between melee fighters and what a tamer can do is still far too massive. The classes need to be somewhat balanced, as the monster attacks all of us the same way.

13 - Lousy stories. Don't get me wrong, we've had some good ones. But many of the quests put the "Cruddy" in "Mediocrity." Hire some professional writers to craft some intriguing stories, not just some aborted cliche-a-thons that sound like a generic, unimaginative 13 year old Dungeonmaster is at the helm.

14 - No more spell systems, please. Come on. We have more choices for your spellflinging arsenal than you have picking a chocolate from a Whitman's sampler. This would be a good thing if the in-game fiction even regarded these various wild extra schools as existing, or they werent so lopsided and hideously unbalanced.

15 - People complaining about the no 100mill checks. If you are crying because you don't have room for twenty-five trillion in one character's bank vault, excuse me if I have little sympathy. Liquidate some of it in artifact investments maybe, Daddy Warbucks.

16 - People who think defeating someone else in PvP validates their existence. I remember Archie Bunker and Mike Stivic playing a karate video game in one "All in the Family" and Archie said, "Hey, your [Japanese fellow] knocked my [Japanese fellow] down."
Cultural insensitivity aside, that's just it. Your sprite knocked my sprite down. In a game. You aren't gonna get universal acclaim, fabulous riches or motorboats from Jenna Jameson even if you lay slaughter to the whole shard. It's a game and it does nothing to further your actual life. It's a diversion. Acting like you did something notable just makes you look obnoxious and more than a little stupid.

17 - The UO Codes Store. You should be able to achieve the maximum potential in an online game you pay for, without having to pay extra here and there to get ahead. That is my not-capitalist-friendly opinion, but it still is my opinion.

18 - Bagball. Utterly stupid idea. I spend far too much time as it is dropping and dragging and now you are suggesting we make a SPORT of it? Craziness.

19 - The fact that we wait weeks on end for us non-Lake Austin mere mortals to finally get the patch. I was wondering why they were talking about the Christmas Gifts in late October. I see now. Because we wont get the patch until after Thanksgiving, at this rate.

20 - The well-established fact that EA Employees do not read Stratics SnR. Well I am really sorry that it is gonna hurt your feelings to hear your user base complain, but since this game is an ongoing subscription service, MAYBE you should listen to what people are complaining about. It just might be wise to track what the top beefs are amongst the populace, so you can focus on what needs to change. Just a radical idea. And yes, I hope this whole thread doesnt get moved to SnR. :)

I do agree with quite a bit of what your saying.

Gods how I wish empty vendors would turn blue or something bold to signify not only to the vendor owner but to the poor schmuck whose out shopping not to bother clicking that vendor it's EMPTY.

Nothing I hate more though than opening a vendor to have to open 95 other packs. Only to find there isn't a stinking thing IN any of those packs but more empty dang packs.

I hate opening packs... when I open a vendor I want to see what the heck is there. I don't want to have to mouse over every dang bag and box you have on there to find some information only to find you're too dang lazy to label the bags/boxes... Or even worse... you label it something totally fetching like "Got Pinks?".... and I open the stupid bag thinking I'm going to find some SoT's in there... Only to find you put a bunch of GARBAGE on the vendor and there isn't a single SoT on it! To which I say "Heck yeah but obviously YOU do NOT!"...

I don't like recycled events either... Nor do I care for ignored holidays.... lack of communication.... and a 100 other topics.

I think the ingame GM support is a JOKE. And that's putting it nicely. If I take the time to page a GM I expect someone to take the time to help me... not give me some stupid canned comment because you can't read and comprehend my message because I've had to cut and shorten it so much just to get it to fit in the small box to send... plus in the EC it's just like writing in one of the ingame books..... my writing goes WAY off the page to the point I often wonder if like books the GM's can only read the first tiny part of the line and that's it or if they actually get the entire message beyond the first 5 or 6 words.

I hate trying to trade between the clients. Most people in the 2d client don't see what I put in the trade window..... this is frustrating and it really is a pain...

I also agree about imbuing and loot. Most the crap I pick up is stuff like a ring or bracelet with just 1FC on it.... or only 3 FCR nothing else..... this way I can use that to imbue and save myself a few reagents. Most everything else is worthless..... I can't even remember the last time I actually found something as "loot" that was worth unraveling... Not one thing is ever "relic frag" worthy unless it's an Artifact...

And without being able to Imbue artifacts anymore most of them aren't worth keeping.... if they don't unravel for a relic they are only trash worthy for a few clean up points.

How I would LOVE to build things higher than 4 levels. I suppose the DEV's think small... Even castle British is only 2 floors. I think Blackthorns Castle is a whole 3 stories. Heck some dungeons have more floors than houses.

I disagree though about the game codes. I think having that just adds to the game... so long as the stuff is kept to mostly deco. Nothing should be available in the game code store that gives anyone unfair advantage... things like the tool for enhancing at 100% should be available ingame as well.

I also agree with you about Gold... If you have too much to store.... then maybe it's time you change your playstyle.

I also agree with you about EM events.

I do not agree with you about races though... Infact I think there should be many more..... but then the DEV's also need to add in an alteration ability that makes things 100% alterable... If I take an armor of fortune I should be able to alter it for my gargoyle.... then change it to say "hide" armor looking for my elf if I so choose and so on and so forth....

Anyone should be able to wear anything found in game by altering it to suit them.

I also agree with you about lousy stories.

They didn't invent Bagball however.... that game already existed... Players created it..... they only made it more "official".

12 is wrong i can see u dont play a tamer any figther that reach the 300 di cap and mages that is stacked with sdi and slayer books do so much more dmg than the best pets in game

Yes u can argue that a tamer with 120 eval and sdi could do more dmg than a mage or a mystq mage but in reality it does not work that way the pet takes so much dmg that the tamer is just going to sit there and vet/mage heal without getting a single offensive spell off while the mage/mystiq just summon Rc/vortex and then start to trow offensive spells

And tamers afk fighting whats up with that u need to heal your pet non stop it s just as much work as any other template in my opinion

Tamers are extremly usefull because they make everyone else so much better Gd s are superb tanks but they dont dish out insane amount of dmg pvm

Anyhoo here we go.

1 - Empty Vendors. If Vendors without goods are not restocked in a reasonable time frame, they need to be collapsed.
agree totally

2 - The Virtue System. It would be nice if we could keep our paths tip-top without having to devote so much gametime trying to revive the degradation caused by, heaven forbid, doing something else in game.
not really something i do, so neutral

3 - While I have no problem with people working an event for extra items, I hate people working an event and interfering with other players' completion of the event because they want to sell them the key items.
agree

4 - Overall lack of effort for the fall seasons. Recycled Halloween without a significant event, no Thanksgiving, and just another boring trinket Christmas.
agree

5 - Imbuing making every magic item perhaps found during adventuring utterly worthless. I've stopped looking at item properties on any thing I find, because an imbued item would be miles better than the most powerful weapon or armor the RNG will spit out.
agree

6 - GM support. To be fair, they have worked out many of the more desperate oh-my-friggin-God-I-need-intervention-right-NOW-or-I'm-screwed panic moments, but still, every once in a while you find one, and a pizza will get to your house a lot faster than even a canned response from the GM bot.
dont use it all that much, neutral

7 - Incompatible class blending. This is a matter of personal taste and you certainly may not agree. That's fine. But I don't like the fact a Necromancer and a Paladin can be in the same body. You can't be an Autobot and a Decepticon at the same time. Sure, in game terms it is simply another avenue of skill and should be irrelevant. But I can't help but object to the obvious dichotomy with what the classes stand for in a traditional sense. It's silly.
disagree, necro+paladin= anti-paladin or death knight, read up on lord soth from dragonlance novels, of course its one example laid out but alot of the cross skill tmeplates i could see, stealth/paladin i dont see happening though

8 - Too many races. Really, we didn't need the elf class, and we sure didn't need the Gargoyle Class. Aside from tweaks here and there it's really just unnecessary gift paper around your toon.
disagree, id like to see more races, but the gear needs to more accessible to the other races.

It's not a request for a change.
disagree, recall is great so is gate.

10 - "Artifacts" in the game that are so friggin useless, the stuff you find on monster's corpses is far superior.
agree, also some of these artifacts are so template specific, not a fan of pigeon holing.

11 - 4 levels. Come on, this is a world where castles are supposed to have pennant-whipping spires that pierce the clouds. But we never have any buildings in this world bigger than a modest University library, no matter how imposing they are supposed to be. That's just silly.
disagree, if you want to build huge things, go play sim city.

The classes need to be somewhat balanced, as the monster attacks all of us the same way.
the template debate will always be, my sampire can wipe out anything a tamer cant, and my mage is no slouch either.

13 - Lousy stories. Don't get me wrong, we've had some good ones. But many of the quests put the "Cruddy" in "Mediocrity." Hire some professional writers to craft some intriguing stories, not just some aborted cliche-a-thons that sound like a generic, unimaginative 13 year old Dungeonmaster is at the helm.

disagree, i would like to see a few more options

15 - People complaining about the no 100mill checks. If you are crying because you don't have room for twenty-five trillion in one character's bank vault, excuse me if I have little sympathy. Liquidate some of it in artifact investments maybe, Daddy Warbucks.

this goes for any pvp game, look at the universe as it is and then realize no matter what your just a speck of dust

17 - The UO Codes Store. You should be able to achieve the maximum potential in an online game you pay for, without having to pay extra here and there to get ahead. That is my not-capitalist-friendly opinion, but it still is my opinion.
sadly this seems to be the way things are going with alot of games, i dont think this is a battle worthy of fighting

18 - Bagball. Utterly stupid idea. I spend far too much time as it is dropping and dragging and now you are suggesting we make a SPORT of it? Craziness.
uhm yeah, i never really played chess or checkers in UO either, and mahjong...wtf?

19 - The fact that we wait weeks on end for us non-Lake Austin mere mortals to finally get the patch. I was wondering why they were talking about the Christmas Gifts in late October. I see now. Because we wont get the patch until after Thanksgiving, at this rate.
i think you mean origin, i think thats why the server was created. but yes agree

Time to play some Devil's Advocate!

1- Yeah Empty vendors do kinda stink. Course one could say that it makes the ones that you find something useful on that much more special.

2- Really can't say much about this... if it isn't honor or valor I tend to nod off. Which I suppose may actually prove your point.

3- Any game that has special events will have this issue. Unfortunately the only way to avoid special event rats is not to have the event. Personally I prefer to have the event.

4- How do you know there is nothing planned for Thanksgiving? Or that we are going to only get a trinket for Xmas? Let's not complain until it happens eh?

5- Have you not been around for the last week or so? Have you not noticed the loot being dropped in the Shame dungeon? That in itself kinda makes your complaint... well just whining (ducks)

6- Yeah GM support does suck... sadly I can't argue that point.

7- As you said the class blending is certainly unique to UO... Which honestly is why many people enjoy playing here...

8- Too many races? Are you saying that too many choices is a bad thing? I think not my dear friend!

9- Traveling without gates and recalls is actually a lot of fun. I suggest everyone try it when they have the chance. It's also very time consuming and some just don't have the time to wander the world. Really it's their loss.

10- I have a feeling that the shame dungeon loot system may put an end to the weak artifacts, so why don't we just wait on that one shall we?

11- Good lord how many floors do you want in your home??? Decorating 4 levels drove me insane!!

12- First... Fighter class unable to solo a mob? Um one word... Sampire. Of course that probably conflicts with your #7 gripe, however that is your choice, and does not change the fact that it can indeed be done.
Also I've played a tamer for 10 years and I'll tell you right now I can take stuff down with my sampire (which I'm still learning), that my tamer couldn't possibly take down.

13- Story lines not exciting you? Do your own! I bet if you grabbed the ear of an EM and told them what you wanted to do, they would be all for it!

14- I never really played a spell casting class :blushing: so I'll reluctantly take your word for it.

15- Really people complain about no 100 mil checks?? Ok I agree with you on that one LOL

16- Don't PVP so really can't and shouldn't comment on that one.

17- Actually I do agree with this. It almost seems like UO is steering itself towards that whole free to play but pay to get the good stuff genre... which I hope to goodness it does not do!!

18- YO BACK OFF THE BAGBALL GAME! ;)

19- Well their only trinkets right? ;)

20- How exactly is it that you know they don't visit that forum?

disagree, necro+paladin= anti-paladin or death knight, read up on lord soth from dragonlance novels, of course its one example laid out but alot of the cross skill tmeplates i could see, stealth/paladin i dont see happening though
Soth was not a paladin before his fall, he was a Knight of Solmania, a Warrior in UO terms. A paladin draws his power from a powerful and righteous otherworldly being (ie God) as a reward for his purity and to assist him in smiting evil. On the absolute flip side, a Necromancer draws his power from a powerful and evil otherworldly being (ie Satan) as a reward for his villainy and to assist him in destroying good. The Age of Shadows (admittedly half-ass and spotty) mythology itself very specifically points out that the two factions are opposing forces.

Of course, last time I went on this rant, someone pointed out that I am trying to apply a Dungeons-and-Dragons-Specific read on just what a paladin is on a game that uses its own unique definitions and archetypes. Pretty much is true and makes this one moot for all debate purposes, really.

i'll bite :)

1. agree .... empty vendors around Luna (Europa) drive me crazy

2. The only virtue i use is Honour ... and use it almost as soon as i gain it (Taming beasties), so no opinion..

3. i actually love the special events

4. Still not sure why UO has christmas? how does it fit in with the whole lore of the game?

5. (My biggest bugbear) I hate the whole imbuing ideology... just back after a long break and all my armour/weapons (Arties) are now useless... Forcing me to make an Imbuer or have sub-standard equipment...

I should'nt be forced to do anything in the game :-( but feels like none of my characters can compete or fight high-end creatures without the new super-imbued armour/weapons...

I am in the process of making a Sampire, and have been told i NEED (insert super over powered weapons or super imbued armour) for my template...

I hope the new loot in shame will help redress the balance... you should be able to find loot on monsters as good as you can imbue...

6. GM support... average/poor

7. I love the class blending ... but sadly, this is linked with (5), as to get the best from class blending, you are forced to use super imbued clothing/weapons giving you super dex bonus, max ssi, max dci etc ... Top equipment is great but shouldn't hamper your ability to play how you want to play...

8. I like variety

9. Exploring is ok, but needs more random encounters... reasons to explore instead of just another dungeon/forest full of the usual (Skellies, liches, gazers etc...) !
(Maybe random artie dropping monsters roam around the land (forests/swamps) and you have to explore to find them)

10. The old artefacts are useless, well, most of them (i should know, my old char's were filled with them), the new arties are great but i still say we need to find decent loot on monsters that can compete with imbuing (not forcing you to make an imbuer)

11. No opinion...

12. Imbalance with tamers?? hahahahahahaha

If anything the imbalance is against tamers now... with all the crazy imbued weapons and people reaching the 300 damage cap, along with creatures doing area damage (no vetting) or 2x damage against pets, a Sampire can basically solo anything in the game.. try that with a tamer...

13. I like the stories but the rewards need to be better for quests.... with all the super imbued items, i want to be awarded a super item so i can use, not just unravel,,,

14. I like magic, and would love to add more classes... Maybe a summoner class

15. 100 million !!! i'd be happy with 10 million :-(

16. I don't pvp

17. Codes maybe the beginning of FTP?

18. Bagball.. never played it.. but i used to play chess at minoc taavern (long time ago)

19. Patches come when they are ready

20. In my opinion, SnR should be the main forum the Devs read ...

1 - Empty Vendors. If Vendors without goods are not restocked in a reasonable time frame, they need to be collapsed.
Agree with this, its not exactly easy to go shopping as it is but when you have to wade through empty vendors with 20 pouches that all turn out to be empty its a PITA.

2 - The Virtue System. It would be nice if we could keep our paths tip-top without having to devote so much gametime trying to revive the degradation caused by, heaven forbid, doing something else in game.
Agreed

3 - While I have no problem with people working an event for extra items, I hate people working an event and interfering with other players' completion of the event because they want to sell them the key items.
Agreed

4 - Overall lack of effort for the fall seasons. Recycled Halloween without a significant event, no Thanksgiving, and just another boring trinket Christmas.
Agreed

5 - Imbuing making every magic item perhaps found during adventuring utterly worthless. I've stopped looking at item properties on any thing I find, because an imbued item would be miles better than the most powerful weapon or armor the RNG will spit out.
The new shame changes are hopefully the starting point to changing this.

Its always been terrible

7 - Incompatible class blending. This is a matter of personal taste and you certainly may not agree. That's fine. But I don't like the fact a Necromancer and a Paladin can be in the same body. You can't be an Autobot and a Decepticon at the same time. Sure, in game terms it is simply another avenue of skill and should be irrelevant. But I can't help but object to the obvious dichotomy with what the classes stand for in a traditional sense. It's silly.
Agreed, A samurai was military nobility. Necromancers are supposed to be completely opposed to Paladins. A Paladin Samurai makes enough sense to be justified but not a necro paladin

8 - Too many races. Really, we didn't need the elf class, and we sure didn't need the Gargoyle Class. Aside from tweaks here and there it's really just unnecessary gift paper around your toon.
Actually I like the fact that other than elves we have stayed true to the Ultima fiction and gone with gargoyles being playable.

I do like exploring but its also nice to get to the place you want to be quickly.

10 - "Artifacts" in the game that are so friggin useless, the stuff you find on monster's corpses is far superior.
Again hopefully the loot changes will help address this

11 - 4 levels. Come on, this is a world where castles are supposed to have pennant-whipping spires that pierce the clouds. But we never have any buildings in this world bigger than a modest University library, no matter how imposing they are supposed to be. That's just silly.
Not even sure I would like to make my house even bigger I have enough trouble with designing houses now.

Actually with the sampire the fighter damage outweighs what a pet can do. It seems high end hunting stopped being viable unless you have a GD or a sampire.

Agree absolutely, the fiction has completely gone to pot in the game. I remember the old BNN fiction posts on UO.com and actual fiction to explain game changes.

Agree here too, necromancy, chivalry and magery were all logical choices, heck even the ninja/samurai skills but adding more and more magical skills is just silly.

15 - People complaining about the no 100mill checks. If you are crying because you don't have room for twenty-five trillion in one character's bank vault, excuse me if I have little sympathy. Liquidate some of it in artifact investments maybe, Daddy Warbucks.
Agreed!!!

17 - The UO Codes Store. You should be able to achieve the maximum potential in an online game you pay for, without having to pay extra here and there to get ahead. That is my not-capitalist-friendly opinion, but it still is my opinion.
Expansions, boosters, the theme packs and the deco items yes. But any with a benefit should be available in game via crafting/hunting/quests

As for the Vendors, I've always put forth the suggestion that if they don't have any items for sale (just containers) they should be greyscale in the view.

Personally I'd love to see the vendor system scrapped entirely and make a giant bazaar. Go to one location and you can put an item up for sale, or you can buy items. You select categories (Consumables, Artifacts, Power Scrolls) and then drill down until you get to what it is you want to buy. All available bids for the item appear. This also could easily support an auction system.

As with vendors, you have to pay to keep your items on the market. Unsold items can be retrieved any time and are returned to a bank box if not sold in a few weeks.

This way you get what it is you are looking for, and prices are competitive.

Pie in the sky, of course. This system would take a lot to implement. But I can dream.

I have a confession here. I really haven't been paying attention to the current state of pet damage for a while, but it was this way for the longest time.

Feedback in this thread is making me see this gripe has little merit when the Sampire class is available. I don't play Sampire, I play a Pally Archer, and I can't dish out such tremendous damage.

Sounds like all you're doing is complaining... Why is this a pet peeve of yours? You're complaining about something that obviously wouldn't effect you. So what do you have against it? All your ideas are useless as of now, as we need to get rid of bugs first.

Sampire may be the best all around template but it s not the only Template to solo peerless and champs with mystiq mages can solo melisande trowers and archers solo slasher just yesterday i did solo stygian dragon with my archer (Archery,Bushido, chivalry, tactics, anatomy, healing)

It is 300% di cap of your base dmg with a slayer composite bow using your chivalry spells and armour ignore u should be able to reach that with your archer about 200 in damage

I have not compared dmg so plz correct me if i m wrong but as far as i know the only one out dmg u will be the trower

My point is nerf sampires and there will just be another template that take over
PvM is pretty balanced right now if anything give the monsters special abilitys to kill some templates like slasher and stygian dragon that kills a gd in 2 bites

I agree it depends on the situation what is the best template... I would never use my Sampire on a lot of things... However I have solo'd the Styngian several times on my archer with no problem... If I'm careful and plan things well I can solo Medusa on my archer but it's a ROYAL pain and takes nearly the entire 2 hours... I would much rather grab 2 or 3 friends who have similar templates and can cross heal to do Medusa. And my biggest thought is just because you "can" solo something... doesn't mean that's always the way to go. I mean isn't it more fun to go with friends???

After all this is a MMO is it not? I'd much rather adventure with friends. Besides it's much more of a competition that way.... see who gets the "prize"...

Just saying. I actually find the Sampire boring to play... and almost never play her.

Tamers can be equally boring and I've found that more often than not they get the worst loot... Often it's my archer friends who get the lions share because they seem to do some heavy damage.... that and mages with spellweaving having a lvl 6 circle and doing WoD do FAR more damage than my GD. The GD is basically a tank... nothing more. Doesn't do high damage... most monsters are designed to resist them having higher fire resist and physical resist.

I don't like empty vendors either.

If ya that busy, restock FASTER then !
One can go to the same ones day after day that
SAY they are selling regs for example in bulk and
day after day you do not even find 1 nightshade left on em.

Either restock faster if ya THAT BUSY or change vendor to
simply read what they ARE selling or label em EMPTY !

What I dislike even more though, are the numerous vendors/malls
that say *leaving uo sale* and ya know darn fool well they are not only EMPTY but they been leaving UO and sayin so for 2 or more yrs. in that same spot !!

LEAVE already or change your vendors to say...too lazy to restock or be here and no nothing special is ever for sale here.

Another of my lil pet peeves, nothing we can do about it,
[especially silly when we are making our OWN GATES]...
is being given the *scary warning*
and gump popup that we are:
ENTERING FELUCCA ... on Siege Perilous !!

Helloooooooooooo Siege Perilous
is ONLY *felucca*
even in downtown Zento or wherevers.

Yeh, on other shards Zento is trammel
or one of the two, down town Brits,
but not on Siege, there is only one downtown Brit
and it IS fel only,
so quit warning me [on Siege Perilous]
that....gasp panic... Ima going to felucca !!!

I think we know, it is fel ruleset, ALL OVER Siege !

For that matter if we are *old accts.*
why even bother to warn us *esp making our OWN gate*
that we are going to Felucca at all, on ANY SHARD
if we are not *young* or newer accts.
I think we know where
we ARE GOING,
wherever it is we ourselves are [taking ourselves]
especially making our own gates
... on any shards ! :)

Just seem silly to me to tell me
OH PANIC THE GATE YOU JUST MADE FOR YOUR OWNSELF is...
going to felucca do you wish to go there ??
Nooo, I just make gates to FELUCCA,
just to see
a redish pink gate pop up, in my house,
instead of a blue one !!

ooo can i add one to this? those dang menus !!! ive said it before and ill say it again......take the clean up menu for example. when i buy an item on the 5th page leave the page alone....i dont wanna make a purchase then have the menu flip right back to the start on me.. i am perfectly capable of flipping back to that 1st page if i desire to do so. it is however rather annoying when buying a suit to keep having to flip back thro 5 pages every time i buy a piece of that set.....

hmm... Is there a way to move the marker in our spell books ?

Every time I open any of my chrs. spellbooks
they auto go on spell pages 3-4 th circle,
and it annoys me, especially on my scribes that just want to auto page to
7th-8th to make more gate scrolls, or to look over that list of 7 or 8 circle spells, for whatever they may need to make at the time.

Never fails though all my chrs. spellbooks are 'automagically'
opened on same pages, time after time again...circle 3-4 pages
in their spellbooks.

*adds that to pet peeves*

12 - Imbalance with Tamers and Fighter Damage.
I'd remove the "Tamers" reference here. Unless we can take our dragons out of stables and fight that very interesting Minion of Scelestus. Ok, not that, i was really talking about the Slasher of Veils. No, not that one either. The Stygian Dragon, yeah, that's... no. I won't even mention Scalis. Well, we can always do a good old Paroximus, that's good, that's... anti-tamer that too.

And we could go on for ages. In fact since Mondain's legacy we have the well known said: "I'm a tamer, i can't do that".

Not just tamers have been side-nerfed to death of course. In fact one of the most horrible thing you can see in game chat is when you say "who wants to join me for a X fight" and someone asks "i'm a Y, can i do that?"

Everytime is see that i'd like to grab a flamethrower and pay a visit to the designers.

I mean, how do you balance the fighting skills of your players? But of course throwing them out of the window! Maybe you do a bit less damage or you have to play a little differently? No no no: you make it so they can't even dare to look at the mob.

And note that they did "balance" sampires this way too (with negative life-leeching), but sampire are a bit more lucky 'cause they can stone necromancy and take healing: not as effective but still playable and still warriors. Take the pet away from a tamer and you get a funny guy that decided to waste 360 skill points because he likes to use soulstones.

I agree with all your points except about the gold--which for me is used for deco--sigh.

Another pet peeve--the color palette contains so much brown, dull purple, mauve, and the dark dull grays of tower walls.

Lighten & brighten up please, without going to bubble gum colors. Gold stone work is dull.

I confess to being guilty on the empty vendor thing. :/

I play two shards and sometimes take breaks in the year of two or three months. The only vendors I have up are on a house whose owner I have not seen in game in over four years. we talk regularly on facebook but neither of us have the time to redeco and stock continually.

I do try to label them empty when I am going to be out a while. Sorry. I guess I just don't have the cajones to pull em down and then negotiate for space in Luna (ugh!) on my return.

4. Still not sure why UO has christmas? how does it fit in with the whole lore of the game?...
Well, Lord British, according to UO lore, was originally from Earth. Maybe he passed it on to Britannia (though granted, nothing in Ultima mythology indicates he did).

"So then King Randor asks Queen Marlena what this 'Christmas' she speaks of is all about. Good Lord. Marlena was originally from Earth. You'd think, just maybe, that in twenty plus years of marriage that the biggest celebration of her planet might have come up in conversation at least once. What a dysfunctional marriage. Talk to your husband some time, your highness."

House levels are so house in front doesn't block the one behind. For years the shack in front of my castle thought it be cute to raise the big paintings up. Raised high on the roof blocks the doors from view of the building behind. Some things just don't transparency. The simple minded is gone and the plot is open due to it being a mid size plot.

Actually if you check many of the supplements then you will see that many of the Knights of Solmania before the cataclysm were listed as paladins. You may be mistaking the more popular post cataclysm times of the Dragonlance saga for your assessment. That being said there were dark paladins in Ravenloft.

Well as I suggested I seriously do NOT think it would take much on the part of the DEV's to input some sort of code to signal players that a vendor is empty... and/or that bags on a vendor are empty... and if there is nothing for "sale" on a vendor it could highlight different or something ...... to end the time wasting and annoyance of clicking on vendors that have nothing to sell.

Special it depends on which suppliment. Dragonlance as a setting was all over the place in what things were. In some the Knights were just flat paladins, then there were just knights, in one they actually called them Cavaliers. Truth be told though for when Lord Soth was supposed to be turned he was labeled as either a fallen paladin or a dark knight. (aside he also had a really really cool wand of fire :flame:)

I thought they were only knights after the gods left. It was Lord Soth that had the ability to prevent the cataclysm. So he was a paladin up until he didnt stop the kingpriest. Once the mountain fell and the gods removed their power from the world he was just a dark knight.

It has been well over ten years since I picked up Dragonlance. Might be time to pick it up again. Nerd highjack over. Lets bring it back to UO. I would like to see the concept of more different kinds of dragons being lifted and brought to UO.

Well more dragons would be nice... but... and please don't kill me I am not a tamer... maybe it would be time to possibly consider making greater White Wyrms. I don't think it would be unbalancing but it could add some nice depth to taming and give us another color option.
PS Special I am only talking about the issued supplements for the Dragon Lance DMs as the fictional cannon from the books is very open to interpretation as it rarely if ever comes out and says something definitive. The rules lawyers do supplements and try and match things out and while they can always be changed by individual DMs they are the guide to what TSR thought things should be.

I will confess that my D&D nerd credentials are strong. I actually subscribed to both Dragon and Dungeon and was playing for a long time. I spent way to much money but if there are any questions I have one of the larger second edition libraries out there. I must confess that 3rd and 4th editions I am far less interested in and have spent more time in UO. The only thing I miss is I was a DM for close to 14 years and there is really no way to replicate that as a player. I tried running some other campaigns at my local gaming shop but its just not the same as they want to run one off adventures which does make business sense by kills any attempt at a Role Playing game.

I totally agree with the above.

My dozens of vendors were always brim full of every kind of plant (rares and all colors and types), also scribe items like reagents/rune books/spell books, library-runes and fully charged books of Cities/Dungeons/Gates/Events, plus hundreds of T-maps, Tinker items, Tailor items, Bard instruments, weapons and armor, LRC items, jewelry, with everything reasonably priced so anyone could afford to buy what they needed. There was always something free or cheap for new players. Many bought the items to resell but not for much more than what they paid me. That I didn't mind. Perhaps they didn't have the skills to provide the goods I had, or they didn't have time to stock all their vendors all the time so bought from others. Then, of course, and now, everyone who has the money to spend, can purchase as much UO Gold from outside websites that they want for real $$$ and can also purchase other items they need with that gold from Luna Vendors or again buy items and accounts from those outside Websites for real US$$$ - - I can't help but believe that those outside websites are mostly farming companies trying to control game item prices to earn real $$$ off the game and that many of the in-game vendors are owned by those companies .. haha a real merry-go-round... buy the UO gold and spend it at the companies who take the gold and and sell it back to you later. *makes my head spin* ...

The VENDORS in my LUNA shop are NOW ALL EMPTY! For that I won't apologize. Why? Because my pet peeve is: I refuse to continue selling my hard work at fair prices while others run in and buy my complete stock in order to restock their vendors and resell at incredibly high prices -- prices that defeat the whole idea of crafts people trying to make a living by selling basic needs to other players. So my vendors stand empty, as do many others in Luna City and everywhere in Sosaria.

What is available at cheaper prices for a new player or a returning vet or for someone making new characters on other shards? I checked other shards by making new characters and found out. Not much. It is hard starting out again but you can buy from NPC's with money from escorting and you can learn and create good characters by practicing skills in HAVEN. It's simple compared to the earlier years. Still .. I couldn't find spell books and rune books at a price I could afford unless some kind person was willing to sell them to me for about 5000 gp which I could earn in Haven escorting.

I used to tone down the clothing on my empty vendors to a dark green to blend in with the grass when they were empty in my Luna Shop which is totally all grass. Now I don't. They are standing in vibrant colors. I refuse to dismiss them because they are very old.

I gave a vendor shop in Luna to some friends. They offered it back to me recently and seriously I can't use it. The Vendor system is ruined.

Jade, I don't think our vendor system is actually bad (it used to work rather well when most vendors were spread out across the land). But you're correct if you mean that what ruined things was the high concentration of vendors in Luna. It made it far too easy for some players to buy low and immediately jack up the prices, dominating the market with very little effort since they didn't have to go far to find items wholesale, so to speak. If there was one city in UO I would not mind seeing turned into deserted ruins, it would be Luna. I know many will not agree, and that's fine, but that's my opinion.

Hi old gypsy (<-- love that name)

I agree with all you said. The vendor system used to be very good.
Luna should not have had any houses. you think maybe we could get UO to evict all house owners in Luna City for starters? haha

Also I fear there is more behind the high prices and it has to do with the buying and selling of in-game gold and items from websites trying to make real $US money. Right now they must be having huge problems since the Luna market started crashing because everyone is selling items at high prices too, having joined their band wagon. Now there are no wholesale dealers left to supply them with cheap wares. Too many, like myself, stopped stocking our vendors. Thus .. vendors with NOTHING on them.

Thank you, Jade. :) About the name... well, I'm old, and I lived in so many places during my younger years, I often felt like a gypsy.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll see evictions in Luna any time soon, but we can always dream!

I honestly don't know a great deal about how the dominant sellers work. I've never been into making gold that way... I just play around with a couple of vendors at my house, one of which does nothing more than hold free food for infrequent passers-by. But I've always liked the basic vendor system and used to enjoy exploring the lands, checking out the many vendors we used to find there. There are very few left now. It's discouraging to discover long neglected vendors in a wilderness house, or an old bulletin board where the most recent message dates back to 2006.

Perhaps that might change someday if Luna should experience a major invasion of unbearable nasties for an extended period of time. That would certainly be interesting! :)

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll see evictions in Luna any time soon, but we can always dream!

(You aren't old and never will be with that attitude)

-- and yes .. we can dream - - imagine .. (*floats off into a dream of what could be: ) remembering .. a few buildings in LUNA city that were not being run according to the rules were set on fire and burnt down so it is possible to burn down buildings  so .. if they can make that happen then .. they (*meaning those who program things in UO)- - they that can do that could also :stir:stir-up an active volcanic thundering earth quaking shaking eruption stormy kind of disaster whereby all Luna buildings slowly catch fire, crumble and burn up with the high priced vendors vanishing into the lava flow and hot ashes during which the major invasion of unbearable fire-proof nasties takes place - - and have that last for a very long extended period of time, at least until everyone gives up and evacuates and relocates elsewhere .. tumdedumdum dum !! I really like that Idea .. and what's more, the nasties could then take over Luna and operate all the burnt up shops with NPC's! There! Problem solved.

- - wanders off to bed .. yes .. very good dream, old gypsy .. ... .. :sleep2: - - must have been looking into her crystal ball and seeing the future of Luna City ... or something ...

Prince_Caspian, I don't know when you stopped looking at pet damage, but it was probably before AoS. If you were a bit honest, you would remember that paladins have always had a greater damage output than tamers. Even when there were forum trolls bashing tamers because they were a good template in PvE.

The #12 is just upside down. Devs are too bad to make a monster difficult so each time they have to make a stronger one because they introduced too powerful weapons (UO: players are demigods farming the nine hells to get a rare collectible), they give them the power to one-hit kill players because there are GD to tank it.

Seriously, you're kidding on #12 correct??? My sampire and even my garg thrower do insane damage faster than a gdrag or bug/mare, bug/bake combo.
