I am currently updating the pages on spells on Stratics, and amalgamating some into one comprehensive document.

A couple of things I'm not sure on and need help with.

1. Am I right in believing faster casting does not go below 0?

2. What is the correct casting time for blade spirit and summon creature? The existing tables make no mention of the fact that these two spells do not have the 2.5 second delay that applies to the rest of the level 5 spells.
These are the pages I'm combining:

http://uo.stratics.com/content/basics/spells.shtml
http://uo.stratics.com/content/basics/spellsn.shtml
http://uo.stratics.com/content/basics/spellsw.shtml
http://uo.stratics.com/content/basics/words.shtml
http://uo.stratics.com/content/guides/magic.shtml

And here's a preview of the 'work in progress'

Both have a 6 second delay, 18 mana cost 38min skill

Blade spirits last 120seconds

Summon creature last 4*magery up to 480seconds

Wow Petra, your doing a great job there keep it up!

RichDC is spot on with those stats for the 2 spells.

As for the Faster Casting, it was programmed so you could never go below 0 (0 is the slowest you can get).

Assuming this hasn't changed then thats the answer. HOWEVER it may be worth testing it against Essence of Wind, as they MAY have fiddled with it for this spell to take affect.

Thank you both. The casting question was for correcting the description on 'protection'

On the current documentation it says:
Because of the heavy drawbacks, this spell is, these days, primarily used to train low level resisting spells (due to the drop in the skill) as its almost impossible to kill anyone with a -2 faster casting.

That appears to be just worded badly, as in essence protection drops you 2 faster casting.

However as it is capped at 2 that puts you at 0. I know it doesnt slow any further, its a very ambiguous way of writing. Maybe at one time you could overcap and still have 2casting with protection.

I am fairly sure that protection brings you to 0 no matter what your fc is, its not a -2 its just an automatic "0" but you can go below zero from spells like essence of wind (and monsters such as grizzle and one other i cant remember that slow your casting). I can not say it with certainty as I have not tested it very much, but the way the spell "should" work is to bring your casting to 0 when you have protection activated. I normally have 4/6 casting and with protection I know there is a difference so it must be working correctly, but as I stated no real testing.

I was going to reply with pretty much that.

The other monster is Lady Mel.

But that doesn't really apply to the guides in question.

Protection lowers the FC cap to 0 for magery and (in theory) 2 for chivalry and spellweaving. I haven't timed it for weaving though and I don't use FC for my paladins.
