Control Shift Bug

Anybody who PvPs on a regular basis knows this bug exists, and has been around for countless years. I am wondering why it has not been fixed in those years. So, for the last time please Mr. developer team, please fix the control shift bug...I really am sick and tired of crashing.

Note- This is an open forum and anything can and will be posted to any thread created, regardless of what you may want otherwise.

That said, I have never heard of this bug and neither has anyone that I play with that I know. Exactly what is it that's happening? I find it hard to believe that something as commonly used as Ctl/Shift for object handles wouldn't have caused a "crash" for just about everyone that's been playing for more than a few years. Maybe it's your computer, and no fault of UO at all. *shrug*

I did not say page a GM. I said send feed back directly to EA/Mythic. Include how to do it and the results. To be perfectly honest I have never heard of it either... and I read a lot.

I also play on a pretty heavy PvP shard... I rarely ever lose conection.

I think.. and I could be wrong, that it has something to do with grabbing peoples healthbars as they die? Or looting pots at the same time?

Idk I've crashed a few times because of those -- might not be it though.

Sorry guys, but as offensive as the OP is being, the bug DOES exist. It has NOTHING to do with 3rd party programs, as the only two I use are UO Assist, and UO Cartographer (before that, UOAM) - and I've had it occur with neither of them running.

Granted, it doesn't happen AS MUCH these days, but for a while in the SE/ML era, I was dying 2-10 times a night from it, and it's existed at least going back to the start of AoS, if not earlier.

They never were able to conclusively find out the root cause, and looked for it for the entire time I've played (March 2003). They had huge difficulty in replicating it at EA, simply from the fact it's partially a server/client interaction thing, and the Devs trying to figure out what the complaints were over had single-digit ping to the server in the same building complex as them, and that makes something borking the server/clent interface from the lag time VERY difficult to replicate.

They DID, however, find a few things that made the issue happen much more often, and fixed them. That dropped reports of this issue by about 99%. But, I still have it happen about once every 2-4 weeks, so the underlying issue probably still remains, never discovered.

The OP probably has a connection or hardware problem that magnifies the remaining remnants of that issue, to where they are still getting hit as hard as people were prior to the fixes made roughly around 2006-2008 (can't remember exactly, and most previous discussions of this and the fix attempts were lost in the May 2008 Stratics Serverhost Boner aka "The Big OOPS!")

oh thank you Basara. I only said that to get him to explain wtf he was actually talking about. So only if the bars are not already up and you bring them up after they die, this happens ?

It happens when your dragging a bar and someone or something dies on your sceen. Not that hard to figure out. Now just need them to fix it.

They also need to fix the loot/gate bug. In other word, you kill coon on island, someone is dragging an item as you go though the gate *zap*.

The looting recall/gate bug happens a lot at any champ or event, even Trammel ones - someone gets something nice, tries to recall out (everywhere else) or use the star gate (fel) while someone else is pulling something from a corpse, and the person departing loses conn. It happens more often if the boss corpse in question is still open on the screen of the person departing (again, more likely for someone recalling out of a non-fel spawn), but doesn't have to be (it just makes it more obvious what caused the crash).

We'll see if we can confirm the health bar crash. The steps I'm sending to QA are:
1. In the Classic Client, Person A drags Person B’s health bar out.
2. While Person A is dragging the health bar, have Person B kill himself.
3. Client crashes.

Is that the basics of it?

Is that different from the Ctrl-Shift bug? If so, can someone describe the Ctrl-Shift bug in more detail? If it's hard to reproduce, is there a location that it occurs at most often?

As for the loot/recall/gate crash, that should have been fixed months ago. If it is still happening, we'll take a look at it again.

I actually had the control shift bug last night. It's been around for as long as I can remember. Anytime you are fighting and you hit Ctr/Shift to get a bar once you hold it down if someone dies before you drag the bar and let go of Ctr/Shift you will lose conn.

Someone in a previous post said something that it hardly happens now and most of it has been fixed that is not true at all. I run a 4 month old computer with windows 7 and the works and it happens almost on a daily basis to me. It is literally about the lamest thing that I have ever seen.

The star room gate bug I always knew existed but didn't know what caused it. Is everyone sure it is from looting the champs corpse?

Also has anyone gotten a HUGE freeze going into or out of a dungeon? I get it alot going into fire dungeon from serps in Fel.. I will literally freeze for a good 5-7 seconds which is plenty of time to die :(

You must hit control shift at the exact moment the character dies (you do not have to be pulling the persons bar who died just anyone's bar).
It doesn't happen if you already have control shift pressed.
It doesn't happen often because you have to be exact.

confused here. are the life bars already up when they die ? I can't wrap my head around why people would be pulling a life bar just as people are dying. Is it to rez them ? Certainly you're not trying to heal/cure them before they die...
