Does anyone else see a hint of foreshadowing to the future of UO? EA threatens to implement 3rd party detection and UO forums go nuts. If they do go through with it, I'll be the guy standing on UO's grave going "I TOLD YOU SO!".

long overdue.
the complainers will (most already do) come back because they INSIST they are just as good without using them. can't wait to see someone on an isdn line compete the way they 'claim' after detection is live... but that's just me i guess.

To get a head start, and be the first one standing on UO's grave. Make sure you go stand there now, and wait for the rest of us in the next 5 to 10 years.
what is going on here on the forums as to do with some OT forums.

Today's chaos had nothing to do with 3rd party cheat detection whatsoever. But ya, when cheaters start getting banned, there are going to be some unhappy posters on Stratics, and I'll be the one standing on the ruins of their houses saying, "I TOLD YOU SO!" ;)

Isnt UO like major league baseball? All hopped up on sterioids (3rd party hack programs) that prevent a normal player from winning? That is what I heard...

BTW, you will be standing on the dead horse on the grave... UO has been buried for a while...

haha... if it was full on yes. however, they are just monitoring certain farming scripts by the looks of it and seeing if the data stream matches the script behavior. Scripting will live on and alter them to look more realistic.

A correction. It is a promise, not a threat.

We all know your position. Most of your post in this last month has been nothing but this..

Talk about beating a dead horse.

Lol, doomsayers are hilarious. Every so often there is a small group of you people or individual claiming UO is will die due to something they are introducing. So it seems this time it's the because they are implementing a system to target some specific scripts.

(or could it be they are just simply scared because that they might get caught? lol)

Wonder what the next doom-prophet will claim will result in the demise of UO?

Unfortunately, the only thing I see is someone being foolish enough to try insinuating that what happened to the boards had to do with EA implementing 3rd party detection.

You know very well that the chaotic postings were due to the OT regulars being spiteful. Stop trying to twist things around to fit your pro cheating agenda.

They first have to implement it. The it actually has to work properly ! And then it actually has to detect anything.

With UO's age and reputation I am surprised they try.

Why could it not be the other way around ??

That is, that once the game has been washed and cleansed of hacking and scripting then players may want to return to playing it because, perhaps, they had stopped playing since they hated to play in competition with others who where using third party programs to play UO ?

Sure, noone knows as of now, but unless this is tried, noone will ever know whether an Ultima Online game free of hacking and scripting can be a more succesfull game.

The Enhanced Client has done wonders to implement many handy abilities to make players' game play smoother and filled with many more macro options.

So, it will not be that getting rid of scripting will make UO game play that more difficult.

Millions of players have been running around with scissors in their backpacks. We all know how dangerous that can be. upon someones death those scissors could fly out of that person's backpack, and seriously poke another players toons eye out. So the safety of all the UO players toons scissors will be deleted which will cause the demise of UO :D

Except it will never happen... the truth will never be told!

The Democrats in Washington are all hopped up on steroids, handing out momma's little helpers at the donor conventions, and would have never been elected without them. The Republicans are slipping downers in the nations water supply, and now everyone is paranoid. The Tea Party is pointing fingers at BOTH parties screaming, "I TOLD YOU SO!" And meanwhile, Barney Frank is slipping rufies into party drinks, telling people he didn't know what was going on in his house.

Oh, another piece of misinformation, it isn't a threat, it is happening right now and has been for at least a week or two. As Cal said, they are weeding out the false positives, and the next step is action against the most egregious offenders. I can hardly wait. :)

it might be what you hear on this forum, but it is not the reality in the game.

UO has been buried for a while...
as long as it is profitable for EA, it will continue. the day it loses money is the day UO will be gone.

Llewen has gone so far as to declare she is excited about the possibility of people getting banned.
Allow me to clarify what I am excited about. I am excited about the prospect that cheaters will no longer dominate UO, the way they have up to now. I am excited at the prospect of a truly level playing field in pvp, where planning, determination, battle awareness, keeping a level head in tricky situations, and skill will give you the advantage, not whether or not you've managed to create a better version of a health script.

I'm excited at the prospect that some may finally learn that the TOS that we all agree to before we play UO for the first time, actually applies to them, and not just to those who are plagued by that out dated infirmity of the chronically weak minded, called "ethics".

I'm excited at being able to recommend UO to other people as a game where how well you do depends on how intelligent and how resourceful you are, not whether or not you are willing to let a script play the game for you while you are at work, or at school, or sound asleep in your bed. I'm excited about the possibility that how well you actually play the game might be more important than your coding skills, or the coding skills of your friends.

I'm confused. on one hand you say there's hardly anyone scripting and that banning people won't affect the game, now you are saying they dominate UO, which is it?

lol... we've been through this numerous times. you lost that argument in one of the other threads. nice try though. bottom line, you and the crowd of know-nothing hard-liners have failed at equating scripters with people who are IRL lawbreakers. it's simply not true.

I'm excited at being able to recommend UO to other people as a game where how well you do depends on how intelligent and how resourceful you are, not whether or not you are willing to let a script play the game for you while you are at work, or at school, or sound asleep in your bed. we've been through this as well. who is smarter? the guy who sits there pushing a key 1500 times to cast earthquake or the guy who sticks a penny in the keyboard and goes to mow his lawn? we all know the answer.

scripts do not play the game, they accomplish boring, repetitive, brainless tasks so that a player can actually play the game and have fun

a script can't decorate a house, a script can't PvP, a script cannot do champ spawns in Felucca, a script cannot run a vendor house or defend a faction stronghold, a script cannot attend a player run event or auction, a script cannot participate in the UO storyline, a script cannot socialize with other players, a script cannot create long and short term goals and work to achieve them

^ these are all fun things to do in UO

a script can...

sort and fill bods
train skills
mine for ore
create lists of items for easy viewing (vendors, chests filled with armor in your house etc..)
tend to a large garden
do the certain quests over and over
do large-scale crafting

^ these are all boring, crappy things that no one likes to do

UO quite simply has the most depth of game play, the most freedom, and the most variety of any MMO I've ever played, in every way, including the people that play it.
now, what YOU want to do is try to tell people how to play the game.

you call that Freedom?

yeah, right.
