One other short but fairly interesting question was posed about allowing cellers/basements/dungeons additions to your house. The response were generally noncommital, "It is something we have talked about etc etc etc." I was thinking, humm,,, seems like coding this could be a win/win/win. I suspect they could sell it as an addon that a LOT more people would be interested in than the BAB (Big a** boat) which would generate cash to EA (Win for them). It is something I suspect a lot of people would be interested in. (Win for players). AND above a certain smallish FREE footprint, they could charge a gold upkeep charge which scales up as the footprint gets bigger, which would serve as a gold sink. (good for the game in general)

Implimentation of how you do it seems fairly simple. The "celler" is an instanced dungeon only accessable via a house teleporter (which is already coded as a vet reward). It is put on the dungeon subserver and would only be in active memory for lag purposes is someone is in fact in the celler. Otherwise it just sits in memory, and loads if someone enters.

Okies, flame away.

My only flame is the word you're looking for is "cellar," although Middle English had it "celer" since the latin suffix -arium was adapted to -er / -ar form.

Hahaha but I would love an underground dwelling to horde my crap :). I'm not sure if I'd want to pay for it, though, with gold. I'd rather pay a one-time $10 fee than spend gold.

a customizable cellar for a castle ... hmmmm I can go for that

And monsters that guard your treasures. For the monsters to stay you pay a fee. Small monsters - little fee. Fierce monsters large fee......:gee:
I like it. There should be limitations to this I think. You would not be able to farm the creatures there. Also the creatures that did spawn there would not drop any loot at all.

if done as an instance, yes, if they're going to mess around with another floor or something on my houses, no

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't basements be impossible in certain homes due to there z-axis level? I seem to remember a post back on Myuo which was asking for the same thing, but the devs at the time stated that if you look at the current basements or even caves such as bucs, they all are below buildings or land that is higher up on the z-axis.

Edit: After some investigation, I don't know if the above is true. I'm no programmer and I do remember the z-axis being the excuse why basements were not possible, so I dunno. I guess in all honesty, I just have no clue what I'm talking about.

My idea of making it an instanced dungeon is to avoid this problem. It really "ISN"T" under your house (i.e. it is not just another floor) but can be ethereal, i.e. anywhere there is virtual memory to hold it on the dungeon subserver (or whereever else). Therefore, just because my house sits on an existing dungeon become irrelevent. The vast majority of the overland areas do not have a dungeon below them. You link house teleporter 1 (in your house) at x/y/z axis to teleporter 2 (in the cellar) at x/y/z axis. As long as the total footprint for the dungeon at teleporter 2 is not taken up by something else, bingo,, you have an available area for personal expansion. The only coding would be to let you set the size of the cellar (yes I cannot spell), figure out how to stick it into available unused space, and figure out how to allow lockdowns/storage. Heck,, all the oceans have nothing below them I believe :) The only drawback I can see is whether or not the subserver that it is placed on can take the additional strain.
