Cavern of the discarded Spawn seems broken on Drachenfels

2 ratspawns have no ratman around, no boss, only rats and wolfs. The archer ratman spawn seems to be ok tho.
Is it only Drachenfels or other shards too?
Maybe some Dev could have a look at it.

Has happened on Napa for the last couple of nights (that I know of), we checked all over the Cavern this morning & nothing.

Same thing happens on Pacific. Seems to respawn at server up, but can break daily.

It was broken on Legends the other day. I never have this problem with the other spawns, so why is this one always having problems?

I'm sorry you're right that was harsh if this was like 2-3 months ago. But its not they are broken almost everyday if u arent there in the damn morning. Its absolutely pathetic that a spawn that has a ton of imbueing ingreds gets broken....

Then again they have more pressing issues like ****ing valentines boxes. The devs right now are just hoping to throw stupid little **** at us while the bugs remained unfixed hoping we will eventually forget.

Ouch...
nope, this seems right on. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in those dev meetings.

Dev 1: "ok guys, we have a long list of bug fixes"
Dev 2 "but we are unsure how to fix any of those"
Dev 1 "you're right, anyone have any new artwork we can distract em with?"
Dev 2 "nope, but I do know how to scale back insurance costs"
Dev 1 " GREAT, get right on it, cause change(for the sake of change) IS progress, right?"

This issue has begun on Europa as well. You'd think having a single GM keep an eye on the spaqwn and hit the reset button once in a while would be easy to do, but then again, has anyone here tried paging a GM lately..? :p

It's broken on every shard methinks. I've seen spawn there...twice? On siege.

Because apparently none of the devs have specific roles?

You guys are all whining like babies. For all you know, they could be working their asses off trying to fix it. The thing is, you DON'T know. You don't even know what's wrong, yet you're judging how well someone can do a job you don't understand because it's not done when you think it should be done.

Also, the thing is, certain Devs, from what I can tell, are tasked with doing DIFFERENT things! OH MY GAWD!? Not everyone knows how to do artwork and spawn dynamics as well as the 5000 other things that need to be coded?

The thing is there is a set group of Devs (or even one person now with the lay offs) that is in charge of certain things (IE there's an Art team who's only job is to, Oh my god, do art).

The people in charge of bug fixing, or whatever spawn dynamics comes under might be short handed, might be searching through the code for the problem, or, EA fired all the people working on it.

But you and your all mighty wisdom, I'm sure you found the programing language UO is build on, craig's listed source code for the current state of UO and fixed it in like 5 minutes right? Complete with singing Dragons and dancing beetles right?

Get off your high horse and stop judging people for **** you don't understand.

Yeah. God knows how hard it is for them to put together valentine boxes...
/sarcasm

Then if they don't give them out you and everyone else will whine you didn't get anything...

Quickest fix would be to have the bosses give one of each ingredient to that spawn, then you wont have peps leaving the boss after they complete the easy part, not killign the boss seems to be the factor in breaking the damn spawn.

On siege, at least, the spawn seems to be fine on serverup, but gets stuck/lost later in the day.

Perhaps somebody is luring away the red bosses, but so far I can't find them - not that I've looked much. I have heard that you have to kill all the mid-level critters to restart the spawn - perhaps one of them is wandering out of range?

Regardless, the spawn should probably reset, or the critters should rubberband every 5 minutes or so.

What's up bud, you work for EA or something? I never said I could fix it. And it is not me saying they don't know how to fix it, it's them. Everytime someting goes unfixed for any length of time, the only statement we get if any, is " blah blah, old spagetti code, Blah, blah, 12 years old, blah"

As has been stated in many other threads, if the Code is that old/bad/hard to work with/whatever, FINE! Fix it, re-write UO in a current, easy to fix/change code. We all know they can do it, EC anyone? The Look and Feel are what Make UO, well UO. I do not care about the backend, I pay to play. Completely re-wreite the whole Game, I say, but leave it looking and feeling like UO.

So, although my original comment was snide, it was not baseless! And, although this thread is not about re-writing UO, the thread is yet another symptom of a much greater problem. 13+ year old code anyone?

Wonderful idea. Although it should be 3 ingredients because people would farm them quite a bit and 1 would be crappy when 3-4 people are killing it.

No, but I'm learning programing, and the worst part of the job, is everyone expects things to be done "now." If you don't understand, don't whine. I know what it's like when multiple people work in string of code and don't organize it correctly. It's an absolute mess. I can only imagine multiple TEAMS working on it.

Apparently you think this will take a week to do? If I remember right, UO is written in a variant of C++, which is still used today. Just because they made KR and SA doesn't mean it's in a different code language. Again, you're saying things you have no knowledge of. Rewriting UO would take longer than fixing a bug, they'd have to organize the code then re-write it, and a bunch of other stuff I can't think of right now.

You just contradicted yourself, "It's not baseless, but I have no idea what I'm talking about as I've failed to do even a simple google search."

"It's not about re-writing UO's code, but it is 13 years old, so I'm just going to end my reply with an elude to re-writing UO's code after just saying this thread isn't about re-writing code"

Then again, you also backed up (for lack of a better word) the original excuse of Uo's code being very old by implying that it's the real problem.

You're a programmer who knows to put the end quotation mark after the period in accordance to Americana English? If you were a woman, I'd be in love  (*joins team Konge*)

Here are my thoughts and observations on the Rat Cavern spawns:
-SW/Mystic boss is a lot tougher than other two, should give much better loot and chances at ... whatever it gives
-The lesser spawn is annoying, and other than the wolves (they give resources), pointless. Give acid sacs to the scorpions maybe, and maybe something fun like a rare "rat's tooth" using raptor tooth graphic, at least.
-You can drag the boss away and it doesn't seem to tele back unless something starts doing damage, but I'm unsure about that.
-If you can't kill the last spawn, say like, there is a Henchman rat stuck in a place a dexxer can't get to, the next spawn, following the death of the boss, will not progress to Henchmen until that Henchman is killed.
-I've gotten special loot from Bosses (like seed of renewal), but no special arty-like items yet :<
-The drop rate of Essence there is insanely fast haha

Could it be possible -- since some of the rats spawn inside the junk/trash heaps, etc. -- that new spawns are stopped because the first rat spawn is blocked by terrain or something, which interrupts or pauses the cycle? Maybe a Dev could look at the spawn region and tweak it some.

Ok, I will try and be concise and clear. It is irrelevent what language Uo is written in. If UO's code is fine, we will only have to wait time, for the Dev team to have all the bugs cleaned up in UO? right? Many bugs have gone years without being fixed.

Now, I do not expect the world, I know these things take time. So what is reasonable? Lets look at WOW, the last couple bugs I was aware of there, were fixed within days, not sort of fixed, FIXED! I only mention this as an example that it can be done. I hope that was a large enough game, with enough coding behind it? Do you know why we can now buy our skin color? That was not planned.

The argumant that UO is all this "time comsuming, complicated code and we just need to give them more time", holds little water any more, sorry!

If fixing the bugs really is going to be all that time consuming, perhaps they should make fixing the bugs a priority (which players seem to want), and not bother with Valentines day gifts and Insurance tweeks (which NO ONE ever asked for that I recall).

I don't care how hard/complicated fixing the bugs is, just like I don't care how long and difficult it is to build the car I drive. I payed, it should work right. Or be fixed in a REASONABLE timeframe. Now do we argue over what reasonable is? lol

I like this idea. There needs to be an incentive to kill the boss. Or perhaps make the bosses easier to kill. The mini-rat bosses don't do much damage at all, they just have gobs of hit points.

Whatever the fix is, there just needs to be something. I've posted on this subject before. It shows incredible neglect for the Developers to allow this to continue. It's been happening since day one of the release for the love of.... !!!

/signed.

I have also noticed, at the 2nd level of many of the mini spawns, 3rd level stalls. When you look around you will find a single monster from lvl 2, you kill it and BAM 3rd pops. So, shouldn't the monster *poof* back to thier "homes" like the bosses? That way, a single monster cannot be lead off to halt the spawn?

You really don't understand code do you? If the code is "tangled" It's hard to read, has nothing to do with the coding language. When code is "jumbled" it's hard to know what code does what without sitting through to read it. Games aren't just 2 pages of code, they're many many pages of code.

Now, I do not expect the world, I know these things take time. So what is reasonable? Lets look at WOW, the last couple bugs I was aware of there, were fixed within days, not sort of fixed, FIXED! WOW and UO aren't in the same situation. UO is 12 years of multiple teams coding and apparently doing a horrible job at keeping organized. I doubt BLIZZARD is that bad with it's coding, and I haven't heard of the Dev team for WoW changing. Also, it's not 12+ years old, so the code is probably less jumbled due to people realizing how to organize code.

We can buy our skin color because of a huge glitch causing peoples skin tones to change. This probably wasn't that hard to code in. You're comparing apples to oranges in all your points thus far.

The argumant that UO is all this "time comsuming, complicated code and we just need to give them more time", holds little water any more, sorry!
Because you and their bosses have no understanding of coding, again, you shouldn't complain. If anything, blame the bosses, not the developers.

If fixing the bugs really is going to be all that time consuming, perhaps they should make fixing the bugs a priority (which players seem to want), and not bother with Valentines day gifts and Insurance tweeks (which NO ONE ever asked for that I recall).
Stated in another thread, or this one, they're probably two different teams, an art team and a bug fixing team. That argument holds little ground. So you want a group of people who only know how to create art going through code they don't understand to fix bugs? Really?

I don't care how hard/complicated fixing the bugs is, just like I don't care how long and difficult it is to build the car I drive. I payed, it should work right. Or be fixed in a REASONABLE timeframe. Now do we argue over what reasonable is? lol
No, we're going to argue on how unrealistic that is.

Your car breaks down. You get it fixed. That's called a patch. The fact that it stoped working, ruins your entire argument. Things break, people fix them. The car breaking down is a glitch. Games have them, all games have them. The difference is, some developers actually repair them.

Now, let's compare your oranges to apples with apples to oranges.

Your car break, you take it to Toyota (blah) to get it fixed because they make the car (apples to apples). They're busy, they say it'll be a while, they'll let you know when it's done. (There are 500 cars in the place). Now for comparison sake, they have 50 mechanics, 50 designers for new cars, 50 guys who paint, 50 salesmen.

200 people. They also have 100 cars to fix, that's 2 cars per person who actually can fix them.

You want your car fixed in a day for that snazzy date you're gonna take to Applebees.

It's not fixed.

You come in complaining that the salesmen should get with the art department, put on an apron, and "make me sammich."

In non sarcastic terms, you want the salesmen, the design guys, the painters, and the mechanics to stop doing their job, to fix your engine in 5 minutes because your date doesn't like losers with no car.

The problem is, only 50 of those people actually can fix your car, and guess what, they have other cars to fix, a family, a boss who determines what they do, when they work.

Notice, this is without the manager being brain dead having the mechanic trying to fix a house in the middle of the forest. (This is the jumbled code).

Confused mechanic goes "Lol wut?"
