Brittanian Ship: A personal review.

Hello friends!

I thought I'd share some personal views of the new Brittanian Ship. As I don't have tons of UO gold, I paid RL cash for mine. Before you do the same, here are some things to consider.

  1. The Pilot's Wheel that comes with the Captain's Bundle is house deco only and can not be mounted on the add-on pad on your ship. I really don't see the point of a house deco item that gives sextant co-ordinates... since most folks houses stay pretty much in the same place.
  2. The ship only moves at slow speed.
  3. It is even more difficult to drop items in the hold (at least it seems this way to me). You would think that with the additional deck space, the dev's could make the hold larger and with a bigger "drop area."
My main reason for purchasing this ship was Pirate Hunting in Trammel. After taking on a few ships, I have decided that an Orc Ship is a superior ship for this purpose.

Even though the website touts the ships increased endurance, I still took "moderate" damage during every fight. I think a combination of the slow speed and longer vessel may allow the Orc Pirates get in extra hits per broadside. (Orc's don't seem to have to bother to reload cannon.)

I could discern no appreciable increase in damage caused to the opposing ship. It still takes me two passes to disable an Orc Pirate ship. Same as it takes in my own Orc Ship. In fact, I probably use more ammo as the tendancy is to discharge all weapons during a broadside.

I was very dissapointed in the fact the dev's limited the speed so much. I guess they were trying to balance the power of the ship somehow, but it now takes an excruciating amount of time to return to the Sea Emporium to turn in captured Pirates Captains. This was an issue before due to the distance one has to travel and at slow speed, it pretty much makes Pirate hunting in the Brittanian ship useless.

Maybe this ship would excel at doing Corgul with a guild. Or perhaps Guild PvP sea battles in Fel, but in Tram I think it's best use is going to be as a mining boat. At least that's what mine is probably going to end up doing.

I don't like being negative about stuff, but I thought it was only fair to warn others who might spend RL $$ on this ship to know what it's limitations are.

They should have added those fancy cannons and made them only placeable on the Brittanian ship.

It's really a shame too see so much negative feedback on these ships.

Orc Ship> Brittanian Ship. :pancakes:

Garg ship > Orc Ship> Brittanian Ship.

For Pirating anyway , but thats a personnal preference.

To be fair, Huge ships were never favored by pirates . They prefered smaller, more maneuvrable type ships like shooners and sloops.

The britt galleon imo is only usefull for fishing .

Really wish they would make npc merchant ships with those though.

If I could only place a single light cannon and a bigger engine on my rowboat, I wouldnt even care about having a hold :).

I bought cannons specifically so I could fight off any unwelcome guests in the shape of a pirate or orc ship.... until I read through the steps in order to fire a cannon and what all you need in order to fire said cannon.

They're boat deco for now, all 5 of them. ;)

If you're using the EC,you can set hotbar macros for each cannon to fire it with one click. Re-loading is a bit more of a pain. I've found that trying to use the team approach there doesn't work too well.

And to the other poster... yes, Pirates favored smaller ships but I'm a Pirate Hunter... so I want a big honkin' monster ship! (Which then gets scuttled by the Pirates in their faster, more maneuverable ship. :)

lol, well i hunt pirates too but i prefer the loot on merchants. Until they decide to add Pirate quests or at least renew the rewards on the existing one.

And whats that about multi firing on EC ? Why cant we have that function on 2d?

Btw if any of you folks on atl would like to join a guild for lonewolf pirates PM me.

I'm still old school. Tried EC early on and it didn't take. The lesson here: "I fear change and shall keep my bushes."

:)

I just have a very large fishing boat --with guns!

Yes, unfortunately a lot of folks had a bad first experience with EC. Also others have older systems. I'm kinda borderline hardware wise, but I couldn't go back to the Classic Client after seeing how I can use the hotbars to do just about anything in EC.

Maybe it's time to re-visit the EC (Evil-Client)?

Just a note: I took out my Orc Ship tonight and captured two pirate ships, got a white dye tub. Moderate damage the first ship and slight the second. AND with a crew of one.

The one good thing I can say about my Brittanian ship... is sure looks good parked next to my other ships! Oh, and I put a parrot perch w/parrot on it... so it looks really cool now! Woot!
