Attempt at Mage/Nec/Myst build (PvM)

Hello all,

I'm toying with putting together the following template:

120 mage (100 real)
100 med
120 eval
SS 120 (105 real)
Nec 105 (85 real)
Myst 120 (105 real)
Foc 120 (100 real)

Adding up to 800 total, or 715 real skill.
Skill from Cryst Ring, Midnight Bracer, and imbued bracelet with SS and Myst (for example, could be either really).

I have the suit scattered over other mages, but put together it'd be
60+ in all resists, 16 Mr, 40 lmc, 2/6, 85 SDI and +25 int. Only 20 DCI, and no -mage weapon, or I'd have to trade off some stats.

Usually, I only go for real skill, but once you get started with +skill items on a template, it's hard to decide when to stop. Has anyone tried this, or does anyone have any ideas on why this is a bad idea?

One problem I see is that I'm not really a skilled enough player to pull off such a template - too much fun to choose from. I'd only be a necro/mage with a RC companion, really. I've never used a non-tamer mage char to solo much, so I'm thinking this could pull off some nice damage output while supported by a team, but it somehow feels a bit fragile.

Looking forward to your comments.

Seams that this would be a very powerful template, indeed. :)

With no Mage Weapon, Wrestling, Defensive Wrestling or weapon skill DCI doesn't work anyway.

If you changed 100 Med for 100 Anatomy you would have 120 Defensive Wrestling.

You ideally want 75 fire and energy as they drop by 5 in Wraith Form.

Glad to hear this hasn't been completely trashed yet.

I'm reluctant to give up med, as this guy would have so many things to spend mana on. On the other hand, I won't be able to use it if dead anyway. Like I said, I'm not a very skilled player, so I usually rely on some built-in defense to compensate for my tendency to panic when more than two mobs fire spells/arrows at me from a distance. Trading off some SDI for a mage weapon and more DCI will probably be the way I take.

Anyhow, the tempting thing about this is how easy it is to get all the skills, with just cryst ring, midnight bracer and an easily imbued bracelet. It feels like the cryst ring nowadays is pretty much made for a mage/myst combo, and necro is just too useful to give up!

Edit: Oh, and yes, thank you for the input GOD. With the SDI I've opted for, my resists are lacking already as it is. I'm a big fan of wraith form, so another hit to my resists pushes my resists below a comfortable level. I think I'll probably have to have two variations for the set - one for general soloing, and one for just standing behind someone else's pet and doing damage.

tried that temp on test awhile ago, doesn't really work that well. you got 3 major sticking points 1 if your a gargoyle necro forms are a pain due to landing/takeoff delay,2 if your human/elf your stuck at walking speed with RC out, 3 your heavily dependent on mana and with no resist you get mana vamp/interruped while casting alot. theres a temp i'm using that so far seems to work out very well

120 mage
120 focus
120 myst
120 music
120 provo
and SW,resist spells, discord, med, fishing ,cart, or really anything depending on what your doing(just use soulstones to interchange) for final 120

I have a champ spawn template you might be interested that works really well, don't knock the RC companion + wither combo as it works nicely

60 Eval - For a half decent bless and the occasional times you need direct damage
100 Focus - 120 with Crystalline Ring
120 Magery - With -20 Mage Weapon gives 120 wepskill (from Crystalline Ring)
120 Mysticism
100 Necromancy - No real need for med in wraith form for champs / multiple mobs
120 Resist
100 Spirit Speak

I sometimes swap out Resist for Spellweaving or Wrestling depending on what I'm doing.

Pretty much fully geared up to give as much DCI as possible, all 70's with the exception of one resist and the Aegis of Grace helps resist out for those times when you need to run with protection on. Healing stone is pure joy for those 'oh ****' moments !

These days using soulstones gives real flexibility for what you want to do, we all muck around with our templates when some new info comes to light or a patch/nerf/new skill comes along.

Happy to share any more info if you need it.

Sorry for sidestepping the OPs post, but my question does fall in line here I think. I've just come back from a very extended break and am just now finishing a template similar to the above.

Just wanting a little clarification. DCI does not work at all on mage temps without one of the mentioned items in GOD's post? Doesn't matter which one right, as long as I have a Mage wep, wrestle, or anatomy the DCI I've put on my suit kicks in??

Thanks much,

Ax
