I'm thinking of making a char to test out Siege. There have always been 2 things holding me back:

1) A home
2) Surviving on one char

I'm glad folks are opening their doors to let folks experience Siege. I remember how important a house was in the pre-tram days and I could not imagine playing without a personal safe zone. Someone allowing me as a guest would solve the house issue.

The second issue is more vexxing. I've always built one adventurer (mage or warrior) and a crafter on a new shard. I see them as an essential two man team. With only one char slot, can I make a warrior and make seige work for me? Seems like I'd constantly need to make new armor so the crafter will be key. If I just make a crafter, well I don't think I'll enjoy Seige as much as the prodo shards where I can adventure. Seems like a catch 22. How does everyone solve this problem, or do you need at least 2 accounts so you can have atleast the 2 man team I mentioned.

Also, how do power scrolls work on seige? Any different from the prodo shards?

Soulstones if you are true diehard loner.
Join a guild.
Make a friend or two.
Visit the Player shops.
Ask in general chat.

Does Recall work at all on Siege? I've read the spell doesn't work, yet the scrolls can be bought in the Britian mage shop. Is there any travel magic available, or do you walk or ride everywhere you want to go?

Recalls/recallin does not work on Siege. I do not think sacred journey does either but I do not have that template to say for sure.

Gating DOES work, one could have low 50. or 55.0 magery and fizzle a lot even using gate scrolls, but it is one way to travel magically via gating. Higher magery is a bit better. Gate scrolls are sold by players on their vendors. The gate scrolls are also used in the one EA store bought teleporter tile for homes, the one that is not the 12 yr vet reward. So there are always folks whom have a scribe that can and do make gate scrolls, even if they may not sell them on a vendor, easy to find em in chat and meet em somewhere to buy off of em at a bank.

Since we [HAVE NO EMS on Siege], many of the players themselves have connected homes, via those store bought and the 12 yr. vet reward house teleporter tiles, usually on patios or porches set to anyone to use, if they are set up for *mass transit* for every one to use. Many of the players homes are set up with the crystal portals on their porches, set for anyone to use too.

And there are a few homes like one of Kelmo's 'Siege Teleporter Hub' out side of E. Umbra that connects some player run homes or player towns via those teleporter house tiles, its public, set for anyone to use em.

NO EM so we [never got] the EMs connecting, player run towns, by luna fairgrounds [like other shards have received] with special made EM built gates and banners. WE have had to improvise sadly, so Siegers, MADE their OWN !

Other than that, yeh folks ride a mount or ethy, or walk around, if they do not gate or do not wish to use any of the players crystal portals or house transit type teleporter tiles. And of course the in game moongates, which folks do use, also.

There was an unwritten buy back rule for PvP that nearly everyone followed. People would put the loot from their slain opponents back on a vendor for the target to 'buy back'.

This is for factions mainly but depends who you get in normal PvP.

Not sure how cheating is, I don't think we've had to many problems over the years compared to bigger shards. But then, I don't PvP much hehe, so I wouldn't be the best judge.

I'll keep the answer to this simple, if you can't afford to replace it, you shouldn't be wearing it. Keep backups around also so you can re-gear as needed.

You guys have toughskin, I don't know how long I can last here... noone will help me train. The people who I pass by are either acting very strange, or mentally absent. The shadow lord's grasp is very strong, the guardian is looming, finally seeing a weakness to strike...

Yes power scrolls work the same way on Siege as they do on every other shard, ya read em/eat em and magical noises and blue blobs of rain fall down on ya.

IF you prefer a chr. that is more the adventurer template type, then make that type of chr. That way, your pvmer sort of chr. can make gp slayin monsters or whatevers you would be interested in doing with a *adventurer* type template chr. That way your chr CAN adventure say far more than my crafters can, and a lot of ingredients they may need they can not GET anyways, simply cuz they'd be dead in seconds, to whatever monster spawns much needed imbue ingredients etc.

I have 4 chrs. on Siege, the 3 that are FULL crafters really are not equipped to handle anything much over a lizardman or ettin !

All their skills are hogged up on crafting or fishing skills. Only the 4th chr. is a stealthin ninja archer ie my own *tour guide* for watchin what is going on, on the shard, like when EA gives us monsters invading a city, it be that last chr. whom I'd use to go to see what kinda mess a city is in now ! And I do not even use that chr. for pvming, one day I may up her other skills tho. so she CAN BECOME my pvmer yet, one yr. Usually I'm too busy, with my other Siege chrs.

My 3 crafter chrs. have no stealth. They did develop hiding, in time, but not due to tryin to hide from other players.
I prefer my crafters be VISABLE to every one in case others may be needing what my crafters MAKE.

Your first Siege crafter business transactions may even be, as were my own crafters, first businessess on siege, repairing armor on someone that DOES kill you. I would click on their paper dolls as someone attacks my crafters and if their armor looked pathetic, I would offer to fix it as I was being DIRTNAPPED by em !

Thus began my crafters first humbler usefulness on Siege. I still click on their paperdolls as I may die to em, never know, might pick up a repair job or a sale of ye crafting items, they may be needing. Sometimes pvpers even pks fail to LOOK at their own armor, soooo sometimes ya find ya can be quite useful helpful to em when they are attackin you to notice their armor is about to dirtnap on THEM in 3 uses or less: and sooner or later someone with fixed or better armor gonna dirtnap THEM... gotta keep their equipped stuff good to go, or it isnt much use for em, out there !

My crafters only developed HIDING simply due to that fact that cute lil shadowy colored wisp that I *THOUGHT* was just a 'shadow wisp' like on other shards I played upon, were really, vile evil speedhaxxoring DARK WISPS ....that enjoyed fryin my chrs. on Siege...sooo WE HIDE or try to hide from them dark wisps !

Your chrs. may DIE to those crabby Siege Dark wisps in the forests and by the mountain sides, before ya ever die, to any pks ! lol

Hey thanks It's kind of hard not to play Chessy right now with all the fun we're having out in Fel, but I could do with a little change in UO scenery. I think I know what faction I'll be joining on there now. My name on Siege is mystic and on Chessy I'm Vlaude/Farnsworth.

Good to hear Gate spells work, I'll get Magery trained up from 50 one day after I get some gold coming in to buy regeants with. Alchemy, Inscription, and plants are going to have to wait 'til then.

I hit 70.0 Mining last night and will be starting on Tinkering tonight to get it up from 50 to 70. Tools were costing a lot, but at least they are seriously cheaper here than in Britian, and soon I'll have a decent success rate at making my own.

What crafted items sell well on Siege? My Crafter will have Smithing, Tailoring, Tinkering, Carpentry, & Bowcrafting once I get them built up.

Many years ago I was a very active player on siege. I had began on the shard during its first conception, before the shard wipe and introduction of ROT, just to give an idea of how far back my relationship with the shard goes. After the introduction of ROT, I again restarted, completed two chars, a pvp'er and a mule (Not so much mule in the crafting sense, really not at all... Tamer/mage. I know those who played then would understand, and I'm fairly certain the same still stands today.) but until insta-hit/precast was nerfed on prodo shards, I didn't give siege my undivided attention. For many years after the "patch" (LoL, I haven't referred to that change as "the patch" in years. Anyone else remember that?) until the temporary removal of ROT and the floodgates being opened to the para-blow, conc hit, two day old dex monkey hell that followed, I considered it my main shard. These few years were some of the best I had playing UO. Sure, I was a huge fan of the original noto system and UO's first communities, and than the precast tank mage pvp of t2a, and I'm more likely to voice my love for those eras than my time on siege but I really think those few years there and the community we had, created the finest example of what UO should be.

Ok, I'm ranting... This thread just brought on a lot of really good UO memories. I take it you don't need to stay on guard so much anymore when leaving Del to tame a few bulls eh? Anyways, I honestly believe if it wasn't for the temp removal of ROT and the sort of player that came with said change, I would never have returned to the prodo shards for anything more than a visit to old friends.

Maybe siege is what I need right now to keep me interested in UO. I am going to hate having to remake a char there as my old account was hacked and lost. I'm thinking it'll be worth it though, as siege is possibly the last place old timers such as myself have left. Our playstyles have been forgotten on the prodo shards, the current state of the main shards has me feeling as though I've had a gold watch thrust upon me and told to rejoice as I'm retiring. I dunno, maybe I'm alone in feeling this way, but it's certain that Atlantic has no use or want for an old Trinsic Borrower. I'm not happy to leave the few friends I have left on Atl, but if I don't do something now, my next departure from UO will not only be soon, but this time also for good. So to close out a reply that was meant to be brief, but ended up far to long, I guess I will be returning to siege. I also know that in the end, no matter if this stay ends up being just a few months, or much longer, it will be my last run. I suppose this is really just a last ditch effort to find some enjoyment in a game that left me behind 10 or more years ago.

From serps hold, fastest way might be to go into fire dungeon take the portal to despise champ spawn then go to the portal to Terithan keep, then hit the gate in the Star Room.... Makato Jima gate I think it is, then go around to the south side of the city and her shop is right across from the docs...

Other way would be take the green gate back to Brit and run to the moongate and then go to Zento City which is where the Makato Jima moongate is.

When I began Siege in 2004, my first tour of downtown Brit. I had accidently run thru this mysterious green gate that at that time was right in front of Lord British's and as ya run under that one bridge overpass, on the way TO Lord British's ya can acccidently run into that moongate and end up on Serp. Hold.

Well I did that one day when new here, and thought I was stuck on the island. At that time where the moongate landed us on Serp. Hold was different from where the gate OFF, was located. I didn't explore Serp. Hold much cuz I was FRIED by Siege's infamous dark wisps, giant serps between tailor shop and bank there, so I opted not to explore Serp. Hold much further, in hues of grays ! lol

Tried to get help OFF, found none. Tried pagin a gm sayin help I am stuck on Serp. Hold on Siege...I was told I was NOT stuck.

Well the only way I knew OFF was to enter that cave, run the death run, [since I was dead already it didn't matter], via the dungeons etc. to end up way over by the lava lizards in the lost lands.

Was months later when my chr. COULD make their own gate, I toured the Serps Hold on Siege top to bottom on my own and went DOH...moongate OFF Serp. Hold was all along there, in warriors hall !

You do not have to leave behind any friends you may still have on ATL.

I have been part of Chesapeake since 1998. I never left those friends behind when I went to Siege. If they may be hosting some event or player run whatevers I attend, and we keep in touch that way.

But they whom have known me and my Ches. characters all these years, also know I went to Siege too and play there nearly primarily.

And as often as I may TRY to refit in on Chesapeake, I may have been too many yrs. also on Siege, to where try as I may I do NOT quite fit in on Chesapeake like all those years it was my only shard till 2004 when I tried Siege.

Siege changes us, I believe that I really do. The economy on Siege is very different. Folks can not just buy stuff in 500 quantity from npcs on Siege. Ya have to buy or sell to each other on Siege be it regs in larger quantities or cloth or whatever, NPCS stuff is piddly amts of 20s with items they DO sell us. So ya wait and wait for them to double up and easier to buy bulk from other players of us all.

The economy is less screwed up, ya won't find folks sellin rares from every shard all over Siege for ZILLIONS of Gp screwing up the economy further to where the prices of even simple things get higher and higher and higher...till ya wonder how on earth do truer poorer new players even AFFORD a small wood table for their first home, or equipping decent suits costing a larger fortune on other shards. The exhorbantant prices even turn my stomach and turn me off, like since when did UO become wallstreet neiman marcus online ?? SOooooo ya come BACK to Siege where prices still make more sense than ANY OTHER SHARD out there.

Granted we have no insurance, but I guess if ya payin a zillion gp for a decent weapon elsewhere, item insane UO ya need insurance MORE so today than ever on...the other shards [but NOT on Siege as much]. Some folks wish Siege would GET insurance to to the higher pricers of equippin any decent suits nowadays in pricer UO. Would be nice if EA maybe upped the *item bless* items on Siege, from just 1 to say 4-5 so folks could *bless* a bit more of an entire suit of stuff, but I do not see them EA, doing even that for Siege either.

Siege may still be the ONLY shard left; where the ecomony still has not gotten so corrupted screwed up, that ya feel like you are playing...

ya still can feel like you are playin ULTIMA ONLINE on Siege, for better or worse, I think Siege's economy makes more UO sense and is still far less ... screwed up !

My own heart belongs to 2 shards the friends & history of my chrs. on Ches going way back and with friends I still have there, but Siege and its own uniqueness also stole my heart, too.

Often times it is a huge dilemma for me, feelin like I no longer FIT IN where I once 'used to play solely' on Chesapeake, to where now if I go into the myriads of shops in [LUNA there] and FLEE back to Siege where it/prices stuff of UO still makes SENSE, more like UO should be, least in my opinion !

As many do say, for some if not many of us, Siege is their last stop out of the UO door of remaining an EA UO customers, for forever, once they leave that last stop over, playing on Siege tryin to rekindle/play what UO 'should be' more about, then after playing on Siege for a good while, they leave UO, perma like, for good as Ultima Online customers.

Well somewhere along the way Stratics forums crashed and burned and died and had to be restarted anew. Actually mine should read join date 1998, and lots more posts ! We are all lucky they were able to retrieve our names and with what they did back then, in trying to repair our memberships, via repost our yrs. and post counts best as they could that time, when that first earlier crash hit stratics.

WAY back in the day, my son was in UO beta 97 or earlier. He was in the US Navy and felt he would buy his mom a computer, and Ultima Onlne so when he was far far away we could *hang out* in UO together for all the months and yrs. we would be far away from one an other. So he was my first UO mentor. He even purchased my first *expansion package* with UO, which at that time was the lost lands, so we could hang out in Delucia together.

He also tried to get his 2 sisters in UO same year. He was sneaky he told me about everything in UO but he did NOT tell his sisters everything. [He did that on purpose typical boy, with 2 sisters]. Each girl began upping their newbie combat skills on cows in Delucia.

He neglected to tell them a *blue tamed* cow is not one ya smack by the guards in Delucia by healer hut.
Both his sisters left UO for good after being guardwhacked sayin...[Ultima Online is way TOO VIOLENT !] LOL

He got me on Stratics way back then, sayin anything you wanna know about UO when ya can not reach me when I am under the sea...hit Stratics forums. So he got me on these forums too !

He always said KEEP YOUR COOL MOM, even if they attackin' u, cuz a startled or panicy mind, will ALWAYS DIE out there rl or in games both !


But alas my son met this really cute gal, they got married, & he gave me his old UO acct. when he got MAD that UO created trammel, he never returned to UO *sigh*

Momma & UO was dumped by my son, for the advent of Trammel, spending time with his pretty new bride & I was left... abandoned in UO ! Course HIS old UO acct. is MINE sooo I claimed a boura mount on HIS old chrs. since they are all mine now, til my own Queen Zen is old enough to claim 13 yr vet reward...few more mos. yet ! LOL

But because he was my UO mentor, tis probably why I CAN to this day calmly click on a paper dolls of my murderers, on my crafter chr., as I am DYING ...

And if one only makes a crafter say on Siege or any fel ruleset, kinda silly to try to DEFEND ye self with tinker tools or wood plane anyways, ya ain't gonna win no fights with pvpers, on a full crafter charactered, template.

But ya CAN get customers for ye crafter chrs. via clickin on THEIR paper dollies as ya die to em, seein if they are 'FIT to fight', with OTHERS whom are repaired up and thus better equiped to fight ! LOL

I left prodo for Siege 4 years ago..was sick of the duping. You would be surprised, the real pvpers wear suits that are almost the exact same as prodo..save a few replicas, not everyone wears a Lt Guard sash...most bless the weapon and lose the rest when they die.

Sadley the pvp on siege died about a year ago, after a year on free shard i am back on atl now.

I do prefer Siege and will return should it bounce back, along with at least 30 others that are playing on Atl.

The best two things about Siege IMHO are...no duping so 50 million gold is still alot!

And for taming, if you are in a faction you can toggle "monster ignore" no mob with attack for for 1 hour as long as you do not do direct damage. This makes taming and hunting with a tamer so much fun!

Getting Peerless keys is way easy...

This thread is the best thing to happen so Siege in a long time, it seems clear the devs are offering nothing so the players themselves are taking care of it!

Last note...the Siege community purchased one of the homes in the abyss and it is and will alwasy be public, nice to have!

After three days playing Siege, I'm going to redo my characters this friday and make them both gargoyles with one all combat. All crafting in this ruleset just isn't going to work for me.

One a Mage/Mystic/Thrower, the other with enough Crafting to make replacement gear if needed, and some things to sell.

I've ran into two people, neither one took the color from my character's world. A promising sign.

( sorry this is so long but I was really impressed )


Ok day one on Siege Perilous 8:00 am to 6:00pm EST

1st: Very first thing out of the gate with my new guy, I met a very friendly
lady who on seeing I was new gifted me with a full spell book.

2nd After an unexpected side trip to Serpents Hold ...oppps.
I went to Zento to find Petra's shop. I'm on eastern time so it was early.
I was using my time while waiting to chop some trees and hunt birds
for arrows.
Then just outside town, up pops this red guy shooting arrows at some
blue guy running by. I run into town followed by the red...Who turned
out to be a very nice fellow. He gave me some good advice and 1000
Arrows.

3rd I was getting bored, so I decided to check out Ocello. Where I placed
my first house 13 years ago on atlantic.....oppps #2 I used a house
crystal to get there but forgot...no recall and I can't gate yet.
Spent good part of day training by myself on Ocello, and making
arrows. ( hey I know I'm going to go though a bunch of them )

Then I see people starting to talk on general chat.
I holler out I'm new and need a gate.

...Then Bam... gate opens to luna and where I am met by a VERY nice group of folks who take charge of my sorry ass.
They whisk me off to a castle and start giving me so much stuff I'm embarrassed .
Petra Shows up and gives me the LRC suit.
I am now a member of the NEW guild, and I just want to say that even though I have developed characters on all English speaking shards.
I have never been made to feel more welcome!

Thanks Petra, all my new Guild mates, and to ALL I met today!
