One of the games I play on Siege Perilous is to count the days in between
being pked! Previously, WyRm choose to kill me during the second day of
the Magincia Darkgate event, then there was Blindside while I was shopping.
Not really too bad of time in between, and not complaining about the dirtnap
or the usual drylooting.

What is curious was the worded quote of numbers afterward.
Clearly to me this is some sort of scripting or macroing. I do use the game
macros sometimes, but not really a need for me to function. I still only use
point and click on icons on the screen. I do not plan to change this.

What is the question? The question is:

How many people using this fancy macroing or scripting?
If this is really part of the game, then this forum needs to publish the methods!
No PM this to me. Either share or not share folks.

Trammies like me will use alt/shift/cntrl, e.g. cntrl-1 or alt-g, and function keys for their keyboard macros so that we can talk easily. Serious PvPers and others will use the base keys, so 1 is flamestrike, 2 is drink healing potion, etc. That is why they end up with this string of characters afterwards.

I can understand why you may not have known this, but really, you should have phrased the question differently before accusing people of cheating first.

I use all my F keys, I use Crtl 1-9 if i need to and i know alot of my friends use there num pads... or they acutally have a seperate keyboard you can buy now just for gaming macros... its pretty sweet. But yeah if you know your macros and what to cast its very easy to do things quickly.

I use the F1-F12 keys, ctrl, and "[]\=-" keys for most of my macros. So, if you see me saying "[]][[[][][[]][][[]", it usually means I've been hitting my next-target, previous-target macros repeatedly.

Hmm... Scripting is a touchy word. It does not necessarily imply cheating. I tend to avoid using the word myself as it generally leads to misunderstandings.

Unless scripting, which is obviously done with an illegal 3rd party program, is now legal to use i'd say he was accusing wyrm and blindside of cheating. But I personally wouldnt bother locking the thread there are many more people that will chime in to remind this fella how stupid he is not to know the very basic core game mechanics that make this game work. Especially someone who is such a long time veteran. I award you a golden DUH!

He asked about fancy macros or scripting - while here in UO land we take scripting to mean 3rd party programs, there are many games where some sort of a built in scripting engine exists (we just call them macros here).
Technically, uo assist has a simple scripting interface built into it.

Anyway, I'm with Kelmo here - he's curious, just like he said - not accusing.

Yes, as a mage you run out of keys very fast. When I was first playing, I useing my F keys as well, but once I got into more pvp, you simply run out of keys - and you want them grouped where you can get to them faster. Less finger movement to reach your interrupt spell can mean the difference between getting flamestruck, or fizzling them.

Are people just punching the numbers hoping to get the keystroke event to happen?
To me, it looks strange. I can never get that to happen using macros.
Of course, I do not use UOAssist or UOAM, or anything else. If the Developers
wanted that, they would have put it in the game package.
Regardless of other posters opinions, I see these as if people using a cane to
walk through the game.

And, with multiple core chips may be some changes how we view the game.
I suppose that KR was to do that, but I hope they perfect it; meaning = no more
than 1 crash per four hour play period. May be KR will allow you to use the new
toys.

But, I mostly worry about player behaviors inside the game. Not about stuff
that I can not see, detect, or really do anything about.
[KoC] is no different than [Vmp] groups so they will be a baseline constant inside
the game. I just not on speaking terms with them, never will.

Ill answer your question in my case:
I use ctrl+alt+[key] macros for the most part. Then I program my g15 keyboard's extra keys to those combinations. You usually will not see the extra characters come from me. Except for "-" thats programmed as my 'equip last' macro, so frequently I will have my text full of ----------- after a fight. But, "--" is also the precursor to UOAM chat, so frequently I am sending messages out on UOAM by accident

I used to program them as num-pad numbers, but got tired of not being able to use the num pad

I see your question because I would have perhaps asked the same thing until I met aria (in waka now?) who on her other character programed the spells on her numbers. So anytime I talked to her she casted spells like crazy just saying a few short words to me.
I notice I get a slow building list when I didnt hold down the ctrl key on my normal macros.

In UO, and especially on stratics, I think I'm right when I say "Scripting" has always been associated with "haxxoring" and "exploiting" and "cheating". Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

if its a pvp mage, they"re running at least 2/5 casting meaning they are at almost max casting speed, all they"re doing is pressing their spell macros to cast the spell.. as in, my explosion spell is assigned to my W key therefore when i press w i cast explosion.. now if i cast explosion over and over, then press enter.. it would look like this "wwwwwwwwww" some people just press enter to get rid of text due to casting spells, instead of backspacing it.

How are you not understanding that some macros are macroed to letters and numbers? After they finish killing you, they'd rather hit enter to clear it rather than hold down escape for 10 seconds.

Edit: and if they're wearing an Orny, they'll be at max casting speed with that and a 1/3 ring or bracelet. After you've been PvPing for a while, you know exactly when your spell is recovered - it's almost instant when you're casting 3/6.

Macros don't "take care" of waiting situations - as in, make them go away. :|

That makes somewhat sense to me, the &lt;enter&gt; does cause the in.buffer to
clear by sending it to the screen at the cursor. TY.

when you assign numbers or letters to macros and you use them the letters and numbers stay on your screen like as if you were typing to talk,

after the battle or kill you just hit enter to get rid of all the text on your screen

this is what you see, when they hit enter the letters and numbers are expelled above their heads just like talking.

I forgot to add:

most everybody is running 2/6 or 2/5 for casting, you would die in PvP without it
the timing to avoid the 'you must wait" is all in the users experience, they mentally know how long a spell takes depending the casting speed they are using. this is why a lot of people say mage Pvpers are skillful and dexxers are point and click. I have no opinion. I think it takes a lot of items for both.

Ok. I'll give you that one. I agree you are right that scripting tends to carry a negative connotation on Stratics and in UO. But c'mon, look at him, he doesn't realize that if you press the "1" key, then the "7" key, then the "4" key then press enter, that "174" will appear above your head; ya can't expect him to know any better

this sort of macro would be self defeating. without the wait commands you have the option to cast different spells in different sequences

if you are about to heal and you see a flamestrike coming at you you have options, try to fizzle their spell or hold a heal, if the macros auto target or wait for the spell you would be locked in, there is also a cancel spell macro, this comes in handy in case you need to cancel that EV and cast a heal instead.

Ok so I take it My Pally Med Archer on a prod shard would benifit more from the 4/6 casting then the current 20 physical resist, hpr 2, resisting spells 15,meditaton 14, dex 5, hci 15, dci 15, lmc 5 combination, oh dam i believe theres 5 or 10 hps on there too! I use a resiliant bracer of course, and a halfway decent ring that fills all the gaps, Basically what Im asking is am I really screwin myself over not having that 4/6. Spose the only way to know for sure is to start screwin around with the suit again heh. If I drop the Bracer I have to Bump Magic resist up 15 points to a natural 120 so Ill lose out on 15 elsewhere

Anyway....Sort of back on topic, something Ive always wanted to know for a while but never asked is how well does it work to say set one key to do some basic combo spells, Exp FS for example by adding in delays before casting the next spell? Or even DF and CW then primary or secoundary ability with one keystroke? Lol Im sure if this is possible you pot chuggers out there do like a disarm drink pot re-arm macro but then that would only be possible with UOA right? Sorry folks

you pally med archer could benifit from faster casting depending on what spells you use

if you use chiv for healing in conjunction with the healing skill, then yes, adn if you do any sort of PvP I would recommend it.

chiv heal/cure with healing with pots, un killable

I rely on healing for healing and curing really, although there have been those times when it would have been nice to get that cleanse by fire in before the bandie kicked in! Mainly I use DF and CW and specials, in dire circumstances Ive attempted to close wounds. Ok with a 4/6 casting is there any delay between df and cw?

I find it easy and im sure most of you do the same But all my charectors have similiar spells and abilities linked to the same key. like F1 is cure, and cleanse by fire!
