How about a break from the usual PC's non-PC UO bashing? :p

How about the things you really love about Ultima Online?

For me:

  • The incredible attention to detail. I've always loved this in the Ultima Series, and Ultima Online keeps the immersive, down-to-the-smallest-item-is-interactive feel.
  • The people. Yes, there are the occasional jerks. But there are also the many, many imaginative, enthusiastic and genial players that make your day.
  • Owning my own house in-game. Nuff said.
  • Peerless Spawns and Champion Spawns. They are brilliant ways of making players team up.
  • The Doom Gauntlet. As much as I complain how I never get drops, I don't say enough how fun it always is, even the 1000th time in. And in an odd way, the lack of reward (except once in a great, great while) adds pizazz and excitement.
  • The seasonal promotions. Halloween, Christmas and so forth. Lately they have been a bit uninspired, IMHO, but they still are special times of the year.
  • Let's face it, the pixelcrack. And not because I sell it (I've only received a pittance from all my rares sales combined), but because its fun to reminisce over all my goodies. Remember the good times, the friends on my side, the foes standing against me, and so forth.
  • Maginica (Positive) on the Music Box. I could listen to it for hours.... so understated, yet majestic and epic.
  • The Obsidian Statue Quest. Its old, sure, but still fun and endlessly repeatable.
  • The first Trinsic Invasion. No invasion since has been so vivid in my mind. Mostly because, on Napa, on a day when we were fixing to lose the West Entrance, some of the most hated PK guilds abruptly appeared en-masse with their tamers and hit the invading army from the back, saving the day. It was such a refreshing sign -- even the PK players were with us in the defense.
  • Treasures of Tokuno. It's always a blast. Even the upteenth time around...

I love my houses which is one of many reasons I wouldn't switch to another game. :)

The people
The choices
The experience

The skills

Now I could go on forever about each one but that's my list.(in no particular order)

Customizable houses :)
Versatility. After years of pvp and pvm, I discovered a whole new game I hadn't played yet.
Crafting. Vendors. Decorating houses. The recipes are a pain though.

I've still noticed some of the same map glitches I saw during the beta test (Even the ones I specifically noted and sent reports on). After 11 years I don't have coordinate records, but I do remember the same views.

Too many things to list!

No class restriction, I can chose to have a mage that can carve through mobs with mighty swings of his halberd, then use his lockpicking skills to open the treasure chest.

The depth of the content. I can smith my weapons, tailor my own armor, make my own furniture.

The cool detailed 2D graphics! Have you looked at the crotch area of the daemon or the majesty of the dragon?

The ability to become a dragon tamer. I would love to be able to add a saddle and have it as a mount though.

Owning real estate! And customization (glad that they brought this over from the SIMs, it was the only feature I liked about that game)!

Most importantly - Playing the game since 11 years ago with my wife!

Back when it's under Origin, their statement was - "We create worlds". And they did.

Thank you Cacio! Yes, I do realize that I am very fortunate! *hopes the wife sees this and cooks up a great meal mwuahahahaha*

Actually, lots of people in UO play with their spouses, their children and even their grandchildren. UO is so diverse that it has parts that cater to many different playstyles. In fact, it's like a family game heh

That's one way of knowing you've been married for a long time...

Complimenting your wife in hopes of a well cooked meal.

That is another great thing about UO, the diversity of the player base.

Hahaha, yup! Compliments and the occasional flowers!

1 more thing, when she saw my post on resorting to drinking nightsight potions to get the empty bottles, while I was at work, she recalled around the towns to find vendors that have respawned/reset and bought me 20k bottles!

Variety. Cool invasion content.

Lots of things, really. My chief gripe at the moment is lag.

I have other gripes but that's the big one. Hard to enjoy stuff with 50% packet loss.

But yeah...If this game wasn't fun for me, I'd find some other game.

Character customization: Being able to design my character to cater to my own play style. Not just how the character looks, but also how the character is able to interact with the game world. This is UO's single greatest feature. It saddens me everytime the developers push this further and further towards a class based game taking away customizarion options.

Imersion: When I started UO, it was a remarkly rich medievil world with NPCs and content that put you right into the middle of the world of Ultima. Sadly, each new developer who comes to Ultima trying to force it further into the generic D&D game style MMO that they learn about in Developer school manages to kill a little bit of that imersion. Localization, item properties, neon coloring, ******** anniversary items, items named after developers, RL holiday crap, ninjas, robots, gray ugly menu gumps...Ugh!

Dynamic player driven content: The biggest strength of UO was the ability for us the players to create the game we play. Everything from PvP to creating our own systems of justice and morality. The new faction invasions for example are a perfect system for player driven content. Also, the simple ability for us to chat with each other. Sadly, this is another area of UO under attack from the developers. Year after year more and more options are removed for us to interact with each other.

House customization: UO has the best housing system in any main stream MMO. End of story.

Deco.

I love the events, I love the invasions, I love just training up a new pet.

But seriously, what I spend more time at than anything else is messing with my house. :blushing: Deco for the win!
