Well they turn the event off Monday. What did you think of the Halloween activities?

For my part:

Sicarii -- The story was pretty darn good. A very "look-into-the-abyss" kinda feel. It was also nice to involve Khaldun, a dungeon that gets far less attention than it deserves. Plus the new monsters (with their fresh challenges, like the fiends' area of attack) were nice.

The only thing I didn't like about Sicarii was the way the gossamers were handled in the beginning. It really encouraged selfish jerks and profiteers. When they did address it by making tetherans drop the gossamers, Sicarii suddenly became a ghost town.

What I must echo, which was posted here a few times, is the endgame for the Sicarii thread really was kind of dumb. The devs should know the playerbase better than to know we are going to drop an event momento like the poison sac for a mere "atta boy" line of text. As a poll here recently illustrated, many people didn't bother when they saw that not only would they get nothing for dropping the poison (and thus destroying their rare) but the "reward" would be nothing more than stopping the event early.

Trick or Treating -- Very little work went into it, as always. We color swap a few items, give them kooky names and call it a day.... it would be refreshing to have new tricks, and new rares, instead of the same ol' crap year after year. The GM Begging (spiderweb) thing was a nice touch, however. And I am glad to see the devs didn't relent and let non-GM Beggars get it (and no I dont have a GM Beggar). Now maybe folks will develop the worthless NPC skills just in case.

Pumpkin Farming -- I didn't see anyone else farming pumpkins at all, the few times I did it. And then when I zipped back to my tower to drop off the black pumpkins, an overflowing chest of them reminded me why. Would it be so hard to do something new here? How about randomly spawning a Pumpkin Golem when you pick a pumpkin up? Or have a gold one (rarer than the black ones) that you can turn in at the bank for 10k?

All in all, I'd give the whole thing a weak B, borderline B-. The story was neat, and relatively well thought out until the end. But the lack of a payoff and the neglect to the other tired halloween sundries do take several points off.

I don't count the invasion nor the maginica quest as Halloween because they will continue past the 17th.... they just happened to start at the same time. :)

The Sicarii quest was very well thought out. I really am happy that you actually had to solve every part of the quest before getting the reward. Good job here, the Event Designers actually learned from their past mistakes. I personally found the quest a little too easy. It could have been more complex and more tricky.

I also didn't care about the poison sacs (yet), but a time may come when I'm going to use them in Felucca graveyards. The spider webs are a nice reward, not too rare, not overpowered, but nice to have.

The Gossamer issue isn't really to blame on the Event Designers. Players always find ways to reach their goals in the most effective way, and mostly without caring whether their own behavior is anti-social. Thank God there were other ways of acquiring those Gossamers, so I was able to leave the idiots to themselves. Plus, the fix they pushed in afterwards eased the problem somewhat.

Trick or treat: It is a fun thing, and we should not expect too much from a Halloween gadget. I have no GM beggar, so trick-or-treating wasn't really my thing, as the rewards were restricted to those. However, I did it for an hour or so in Luna, and actually managed to have the Evil Mirror of Myself attacking those afk-banksitters. It was a show! (Of course, nobody was really harmed, as the Mirror vanishes just a moment before their victim would die.)

I did not even try to look for Pumpkins, my house is full enough.

All in all, together with the invasion thing I guess the players got more than enough to keep them entertained. Good job, Dev Team!. The issue with dwindling player activity does not seem to be solved yet (that's my impression), despite those great events and recent changes. Which proves that UO needs much more than new content, as I already explained HERE.

A short version from me (scaled 1-10, Dutch don't use A,B,C,D,F)

Story: 9. It was great to refresh my Khaldun memory (I was a Khaldun thief in the old days) and the way it fit into my personal role play was perfect. It was a little bit weak in the beginning, with yet-another murder mystery. Sure, murder is great to solve, but the last two events in a row had nearly the same concept. Only the victims and circumstance changed. But the story itself fit nearly seamlessly into the Khaldun story.

The finale: 7. It would be higher, except that the finale hasn't worked for a great many people. That and I could never finish on my necromancer because people wanted to finish it themselves, making me the designated healer. But most templates could finish it given the right tactic and some good team mates.

The reward: 7. The rewards were great except that the more desirable reward for most people came in the MIDDLE of the quest. That and the web takes up 3 floors of a house. I still like it though, giving it a passing grade. Better than your average reward. Bonus point for making the conjurer's items more common and available to the masses.

The totems. It would have been cruel to make them easier to destroy, but the fact that most of them still stand is either a tribute to the greed of the masses or the fact that fewer people than expected actually want to deny others the reward. I can't think of a single non-rp reason to destroy the totems. In a land full of monsters, what's one more?

The rest of the events (pumpkins, trick-or-treat): Not my cup of tea. Didn't do them.

Trick or Treat and pumpkin collecting are fine. Ive done them before so I did not do them this year. There are people however who did do them and they seem to have enjoyed themselves in a "I need a break from my routine" way, which is good.

I have not completed a Jasper quest yet. I'm still trying to get at least one book and one totem on each of the shards I play and for some of them it is a very challenging endeavor. The spawn is not easy but It lacks the one hit kill factor of the reapers and doesn't seem to have that completely camped attitude, which could be a result of all the other content added in at same time. Good thinking Devs.

Thats the Halloween stuff.

I like the other systems as well, and have lots and lots of thread collecting to do in short order, someone has to clean up fel Magencia. Hopefully the Devs will continue to make improvements on the invasion system as it functions in all aspects. It is a lot of fun.

Sicarii - lag was sufficiently bad that I didn't get far in this. Fun as far as I got and like you, heard many say "good job".

Trick/Treat - I didn't do much of it last year, but this year I did - as a begger-in-training! Now that was different - beg some gold, then t/t the bugger! So far I have blown up a few times, been morphed into a wolf, an orc and an ettin AND have a decent collection of goodies - mostly the common stuff. Lots more fun uthan I expected. I liked it.

Pumpkins - Not at all. Like others have noted, same old, same old ...

I'll go with your overall assessment - for the same reasons.

Sicarii could have been made easier to kill. I've done it on 3 of my chars, but noticed that towards the end there were only around 2-4 other people in the room, and this was on Atlantic during primetime (8pm-10pm). Not sure how it is on other shards.

Graveyards - fun while it lasts, but again I think people are getting tired of doing it as well or there are other things they are doing like the invasion, because I'm finding that on Atlantic some of the time its just me and maybe 2 or 3 other people killing the lich in Brit Cem and usually after 11pm I'm soloing it at the Moonglow Cem.

Here's my assessment:

Sicarii - Didn't bother with it because I don't care about the spider web rewards. Also perhaps read a few too many comments about how idiotic folks were being and decided I wasn't going to purposefully put myself in the middle of that type of situation. I guess I'm also not a fan of completing quests.

Trick or Treating - Never have been able to stick with begging long enough to GM it (and don't care about spider webs) and had no hesitation whatsoever turning in the goodies from previous years during Spring Cleaning, so I didn't bother with this either.

Pumpkins - I have saved Christmas cards for two years in a row, but just don't care to do it with those hefty pumpkins. I've also still got far too many of them saved from prior years.

I have enjoyed running around to the cemeteries, killing the skeletal liches and trying to figure out the best tactics for dealing with the shadow fiends. Hoping to hit the cemeteries on a couple of other shards before that part of events shuts down. The spell books and talismans have seemed worth the effort involved to get them and I know I will actually use them. Cannot say the same about decorative stuff that I might pull out of storage for a few weeks per year. I'll do it up to a point for Christmas deco items, but I guess Halloween's just never been a holiday I cared about past childhood.

I appreciate that someone put in the time to create something for Halloween and stuff it into this last big publish and I'm not trying to bash that effort at all. I know many folks would have been very disappointed if nothing was done for Halloween. I just don't happen to care about most of it. I guess I'm also still puzzling over why this could be done or we could get a cake IOU earlier in the year for a joke of a holiday like April Fool's Day, but we didn't get even a simple card or cake for the 11th anniversary. I can't help but feel insulted that EA's apparent method of specifically acknowledging its customers' loyalty for eleven years is to roll out more deco goodies that you can only get by dropping more dollars into the game. Very very odd behavior.

I started the quest on one character, but the whole thing never inspired me past the first few steps.
I'm not much of an item chaser, and I suppose having so much going on had me put the quest on a back burner. Especially since I don't really want a large spider web, the hook to draw me off on a tangent from things like invasions was pretty weak.

Trick or Treating -- Very little work went into it, as always. I've said before, I don't agree with the GM reward.
A reward for GM beggars, in itself, isn't a bad thing. But, only giving an aditional reward to GM beggars only continues the "Gm or bust" theme. Several tiers of rewards, for different skill levels, would have been much more rewarding for players.
"I can get a few nice rewards" makes or a far more inclusive event than "I can't get anything anyone else can't, even though I've trained some beggging"

Pumpkin Farming -- I didn't see anyone else farming pumpkins at all, the few times I did it. Allow chefs to extract seeds from pumpkins, and grow them, with the final pumpkin having a weight, like a big fish.
Allow chefs to carve said pumpkins, to make light sources.

I so agree with all you have said. I took this time to gm my carpenter. I find it hard to kill the poor people of the towns just because some dragon did something to them and trying to solo the dragon was futile. So I have pretty much ignored this whole last set of events.

Sicarii-Overall the quest was good fun. Very good story line. I loved the envolvement of Khaldun. Gossamers were kind of a pain but didn't ruin the fun in the end. Good touch with the etchings and gathering them.Always loved killing spawns (GY/Skele Liches).Grade: A-

Trick or Treat-Don't have a GM beggar so wasn't able to get a small web, but in the end a fun touch to the holiday event. At least they changed the candy this year and didn't just re-color the licorice and apples again.
Grade: B+

Pumpkins- A last minute addition to the holiday event. Originally I saw a posting from Regine stating it wasn't going to happen this year. I enjoyed the change last year with the pumpkins being named after your char that picked them up. But at least they put it in this year. To me, it's similar to taming or fishing, I find it horribly arduous but can see how some players enjoy it. Grade: B

At this point I' am happy they are still doing something for the holidays. Thumbs up to the dev's and thanks for the fun.

P.S. Now bring on the Santa Liche, his skele reindeers, and the zombified elves for X-mas. Now that would be fun.

Pretty solid content all around, but for me, a bit of sadness, as since no one camps her on siege, and I don't know many people who play when I do (late) and myself and a friend couldn't even come close to dealing with her, so no spiderweb for me.

The Quest: Good idea, nice to have a detailed storyline to work with, didn't really get involved too much with it because there wasn't much of an incentive IMO. Also as per a thread that had some back and forth with Draconi on Friday, would be nicer if the NPC conversations had key words identifiable... having to go to UOGuide for the spoiler was a bit annoying... but then that's why I wasn't big on the Inu the Crone stuff either.

Trick or Treating: It's a nice little extra. Palette swapping graphics with new names is an old UO trick, doesn't bother me and the tricks themselves are enjoyable in their own way. Yeah, it's same-old same-old, but it's a successful one at that. Don't go overboard on this one.

Pumpkin farming: After spring cleaning, I'm a LOT less inclined to Pumpkin farm, but did pick up a few of the more well-known dev names while mining in Cove. If ANYTHING, the pumpkins have convinced me that there are a lot more devs who would be nice to hear from on the boards so we know who they are and what they do.

It's a good mix of things to do, not everything will be for everyone.

Couple it with the plotline content in 56 and new stackables and there has been a LOT to do the past few weeks.

Sicarii: Excellent concept.... really like the event unfortunately haven't really gotten to do it as often as I would like as there is NO-ONE down there most of the time. And I certainly can't solo the thing. So liked what I did..... wish I could do more..... really wanted a small spider web but guess that's not meant to be.

Trick or Treating:... What can I say.... I used to do it for the cool stuff you get from being a beggar.... but after 3 years of ever so slowing working my beggar I'm only at 89.6 begging...... so with all the other things going on and the lag I really haven't gmed it yet so..... this year I was so angry at the whole have to be a GM thing I haven't even gone once and I somewhat doubt I'll do it again next year as I am fairly sure I'll still not be a GM beggar by then yet.

Pumpkins: I really liked the ones that were my own name..... I gathered one of all the devs from before and this time I really don't think I want to go about adding more junk to my already packed homes.... so I didn't pick a single pumpkin this year.... though I really do like having them spawn. Maybe next year we could get glowing pumpkins... That would be cool.

I am having a whale of a time with the Skel liche and Sicarii arc. Great story line and they even added in Khaldun in Tram for people that don't normally go there.

I like that they have both drop their own unique items. Not to mention the lesser spawn also drops the vampire bats.

It's pretty well balanced. No one can really say that "EA made a tamer/mage/archer event!", everyone that attacks gets pulled into Sicarii and gets whacked if you don't get away fast enough.

Skel liche arc reminds me of the fun times when they introduced the grim reaper, where we would recall around the various cemetaries. Arghhh....I have yet to get a "owned by no one totem" from the skel liche! But will continue to try for 1 until the very last hour.

Trick or treating was a blast too, and yes, I have a GM beggar, so I am very happy :D

As for the it being a GM or bust thing instead of being based on your skill, it actually is. At lower begging skills, you can still enjoy TOT'g since you still have a chance to get the special foodstuff like pizza/cakes etc. Frequency/chance of getting 1 depends on your begging skill level.

At GM level, you get a chance to get something even neater, the webs. And begging isn't exactly an easy skill to train.

If it was restricted to say <20 skill = Cakes, <40 skill = Cake & Cookies, <60 = Cake/Cookies & Milk etc, another group of people will rasie hell. So I believe they have done a pretty good job.

Sicarii quest - This is everything that is wrong with AoS UO. It adds static story content to a dynamic game. Instead of adding a layer of imersion to the game world it does just the opposite. Nothing about the quest adds to the collective story our communities share. Nothing our characters choose to do during this quest makes any difference to the advancement or not of the plot... Essentially it is nothing more than yet another way to get a "rare" decorative item.

Trick or Treating - Oh yes. I just love how you have destroyed my characters profession (Begging) and added an imersion breaking element to the game. Thank you so much for adding yet another rare decorative item to the game that encourages players to cheat up the skill of begging in order to flood the game world with this item completely unattended via third party macro. Yes, please do more of this in the future. Or better yet, how about you simply randomly delete some of our characters and leave rare items in our houses in their place. Yay!

Pumpkin Farming - Why? Seriously, why are these named pumpkins growing? Is there a story? Do the NPCs find this to be completely normal? This is yet another example of the lack of direction and understanding of the virtual world.

Overall - I had fun killing the skeletal liche a few hundred times in order to get super spell books and talismans of overpoweredness, but all in all I would say that above all this event just showed how great the divide is between the developers and staff in the first years of the game and the current developers.

Gone is the imersion and ability to make UO OUR game, and in its place is a me me me item collecter grab bag using the UO skin.

Well, dammit, obviously I missed something somewhere and must now go and collect friggin pumpkins. Arrgh.
That was last years Pumkin Quest. When U picked one it had your name on it :D

Now its time for the cooks to have some fun. Why can't the cooks be able to make pumkin pies???? I figure one its a good way to get rid of those pumkins we have piled up and two it will give people a reasonj to use there cooks some more :D Maybe have a temp fire resist after eating a pumkin pie? :D

Shrugs just my two cents there.

As for the other events. Fun. There was something to do every night. If one place was being farmed..then I went and did something else. This is what makes these games fun. Something new and exicted..instead of the same old same old..

Now as for the trick or treating...I liked it..But I wish I didn't lose my GM begger sometime last year after the event...But thats my own fault there LoL.

Even though you can still get the pizza and milk and cakes it's the same stuff as last year which means I'm not at all interested... actually rather still miffed about the whole ToT thing this year... More at myself than anything because I knew that I should be working on my beggar if nothing else at least logging in that one time a day to get the GG.... but I find many times even though my total skills on said char are about 400.... He doesn't always get a GG in a day... Sometimes it takes two or three days which is rather frustrating... When I do work him I try to at least do an hour or so.... but doesn't always work out... anyway I do enjoy the other events.

Helping Magincia is most important to me. But that's more for Role-play reasons than anything else.

Sicarii- I liked the quest. It was great you couldnt skip parts. I tried it the first week and the people made me so mad that I left and didn't go back til they put in some fixes. I tried to show people the way and it took an hour and half for 3 people to get the book to soak in blood becuase the instant there was a fiend on the screen the lag would freeze the screen. I like the idea of not rezzing in there but I did not like the reality.

Trick or Treating-I finally gm begging and they turn trick or treating off early. I like that gm beggars get an extra bonus but I wish I had known earlier. At least I will be prepared next year.

Honestly, not much fun for me this year :

Trick or treating gave the same "rares" as last year, except the small web for which you need to be GM beggar (pity !)...so, no interest for me...

Pumpkins : I got 2 blacks in a row with names I don't know who they are...so I gave up...

Quests : didn't even try. (some of them needed spirit speak, which I don't have or other skills I don't have ; didn't want the rewards named "rubble" anyway... and the only thing I was curious about in the big Yew quest was Sicarii alone and couldn't get to her directly).

I must say that I did had a blast during the Halloween event.
Fortunately I had very little lag, and when I did it really did not
affect my gameplay. So I have to give this one a 10, as I did
enjoy all aspects of it.
As for extending it, I would have to agree with others and say no, since
that might delaythe next part from happening.

The only Halloween content I tried was the Khaldun "invasion."

I thought it was great content, very well done.

With of course the glaring exception that there was no reward for winning.

Honestly, even if people will do the right thing just for the sake of doing it, I'd argue that's more than enough reason to also give them a reward for doing it.

Sicarii - Nice quest really enjoyed it... the only thing that would need tweaking is the amount necessary to kill it. By the time I got around to doing the quest there were only two other people there. It took forever to finally kill her and then there was no spinnerette... so we had to keep on killing (got it on my third one). I dont think everything should be easy to kill... but at least scalable in difficulty with the amount of players fighting it.

Graveyards - Fun, fun, fun, really enjoyed cemetary hopping again in quest for the elusive items... well... elusive to me at least *winks*

Trick or Treating - Had fun doing it for awhile, got the rare stuff and then went back to the cemetary... turning our GM beggar back over to my daughter.

Pumpkins - just happened to see a black pumpkin in passing and picked it up... thats it... ummm... yeah... liked some of the ideas contributed by the other posters.

Overall... really enjoyed the event... would have liked to see it last a tad bit longer since it seemed to be over quick :)

Have Fun!!!

Really appreciate the webs, was needing them because the wife made a spider pit in my dungeon house back in Sept. Now it is decorated as perfectly as we could hope.

Wish we could have got more spinnerets though.

I've had an absolute blast =D Been healing/ressing/being healed/being ressed like crazy =D Even been learning a little about playing a mage (a REAL little!)

Never got any webs off Sicarii (her corpse I mean) I *did* manage to get two large webs though =D (YAY for soulstones and having trained stealth previously! =D)

And I managed to get at least 2 spellbooks and talismans off the Liche too (I think I got 2 spell books, and 4 talismans)

It's just been fun =D And good to see people out and about too =)

Well, I think it should have been a little longer, at least through this coming weekend. It didn't even dawn on me until today that the Halloween stuff ended yesterday. I knew the date, but it just didn't even occur to me.

The lag has been horrible and it would have been nice for us to have some more time.

Except for the selfish jerks we ran into I thought Sicarii was great. But then anytime we have these events, they seem to bring out jerks.

The Liche is fun, tough to kill. The Tallisman and book are very nice rewards.

I think the whole event (s) is great and applaud the Devs. for putting them on.

The only things I did not like was two fold. 1) The Crimson Dragon (although very beautiful) was not worth the insurance investment to take out. 2) some of the quests required Necro. to complete. I like many players do not have a Necro. I don't want a necro, nor will I ever have a Necro. (I have the same asperations about taming, I just do not want one).

All in all, these events are fun and I look forward to many more events.

I would rather there not be any events at all if it meant no lag. Great customer service EA.

Overall I thought it was alot of fun. Atleast what I was able to take part in due to not having my characterd developed enough yet to take part in some events and the lag that caused me sometimes not to take part in things.

Frankly, my favorite part of the Halloween quest is the discovery and exploration of what, to me, was a new dungeon. Several times since the game launched, I've taken months or even a year off from playing, and so missed the original introduciton of Khaldun. :) I didn't even know it existed until the start of this event.

On the downside, although I managed to kill Sicarii a few times with my primary character, I never did receive a spinarette. No big web for me. *sniffle*

However, I do have a poison sac, one of the lich talismans, and a sack of new books for my in-game library, so honestly, no complaints. :)

As for the trick-or-treating, I don't have a GM beggar, but I LOVE pumpkin muffins in real life. So I was weirdly thrilled to get one for my in-game kitchen table, heehee!

I enjoyed some of the content because I have Uber chars (just had to use that term hehe).

Overall I was disappointed though. Any content that is added for holidays should be for all characters, especially low end and young players, to enjoy.

In my opinion, all of the content was geared for high end characters only. It was pretty much; "Here noob, go pick up some pumpkins or play trick or die for some candy."

Holiday events should be fun for all.
