Lag? Someone should make a new post about it!
Because of the current lag. Uo is not playable. Because of the number of posts about it. It is on EA's end. And no the election has nothing to do with it. Since yesterday was election day and we don't vote via the internet.

No matter how many posts there are on it, its unplayable for me right now.

Hell, ya can't even pick up pumpkins or scribe, because it takes minutes for something to show when you set it down.

It's been consistant with my connection to LS. The last 2 hops below normally are around 70ms. Lately they have been ranging from 160 to 300+ ms.
Often the 12.116.77.34 12 hop (3rd from the end) has been in the high ranges also.

Okay, I was getting really bad hops too - but now it seems to have dropped back down to 12ms from me to Atlantic.
96ms from east coast to Pacific.
Anyone try recently?

I'm still getting the same thing on the last 3 hops. Hasn't really improved at all. I normally get about 60's to atlantic but I'm getting about 150 right now.

Draconi it's not just certain shards. It's all of them. Look at the shard selection screen. The latency is way up on all of them. The packet loss is also. It shows 0% at first but if you watch it for a few seconds the packetloss jumps for all the shards up to 70% loss every few seconds. It's been this way for 7 hours now.

I'm also getting unusual lag today to east coast servers. My tracert last 3 hops look just like Zoo's post 16. I also ran a tracert thru my work vpn which uses alternet instead of att, get the same jump in ping times for the 159.153.xxx.xxxx hops.
West coast servers that I tried are normal for me.
How do you run a trace on the connection? I forgot how to do it.

I still can't figure out how to do a trace. Plus when I try to log in now I get the can't communicate with origin restart ultima online message.

sorry for the late response but yea 2 accounts 2 computers 2 isps one lags one does not.
He said that after 10:30PM eastern every night it clears up?? IDK i havent had the problem but when i ask him to hunt with me he says he cant LAG! He is dsl Im on cable that might be it but with the rash of complaints i figured id look into it.
(edit) i did see this lag on his puter very very bad! It was christmas 98 at the brit bank all over again!

It's definitely a daytime issue. After 11pm (central) the lag goes away for me. But during the day its downright unplayable.

Yeah not all get the lag, it's very weird cause it's the ea servers problem.
So shouldn't that mean everyone should experience it if its a problem with the server?

Apparently there ARE issues with alot of people, so it must be server-side somehow.

I dunno what to say about lag. One day people say I speedhack, the other I feel too slow...
And my ping is stuck at 65 and refuses to show higher or lower no matter how fast I appear to others or to myself.
That's on Europa, I also have the same issue with another EA game, Battlefield 2142. No matter what I show 65 Ping. On some servers there I may lag like Hell and it will still show 65.

That was happening here too.
My (brand new) desktop was lagging horribly on UO while the laptop in the other room was running just fine.
I tried setting the core affinity, Didn't help.
I pinged and tracert'd the servers. 200ms, higher then normal for me (99-150) but it should have been playable but it was just SO bad that I was having issues running. People on foot were keeping up so I just sat watching the sigils and yelled in vent when someone was there. Still ended up dying a lot too.

Just thought i'd mentioned my experiences here too
I play Europa and often lag mid evening really quite badly. I usually experience a degree of lag and put it down to high volume of people playing, however, it's been a big issue for the last couple of weeks as i only play to PVP, and has recently been extremely unplayable. I kinda stop every few steps even though my mouse pad is held down. It's like i hit something invisible every 4-7 steps.
Last night i did both spyware and virus clean up, i hoovered the inside of my pc, i did every possible trace on my latency, i removed/closed all programmes hogging any space on my computer, checked my ping which was 35-37 and still lagged like hell.
After about 10.15 pm, nothing on my computer had changed, but suddenly the issue was resolved and i indulged in some mass faction pvp with no real isssues.
Surely if i can fight 10-20 people and not lag at one time of the evening, but cant even take 5 steps forward earlier in the evening with no one on my screen something is going dramatically wrong.
I've complained a few times on stratics but generally got no response, and i'm glad to see other people are experiencing it and vocalising their experience so we can get this issue fixed.

I live in Ohio, and always had a ping of around 16-18 ms to all east coast shards.
Now it is jumping around from 90's to 150+, very unstable...and much latency in game.
Oddly, I checked, and I ping like 66 to Pacific. One would think My ping to east coast shards would be better than west coast shards from Ohio.
I even have a lower ping to the Euro shards than I do to the east coast shards.
Strange part is come night time...(varies but anywhere from 8 to 10 pm) my ping drops back down to normal, but for most of the afternoon and evening, it has become unplayable for me.
I've been on the phone with my isp and they insist it is nothing on their end, so I am at a loss as to what to do.

Like I said this is an every day thing.
I am back up over 120 today (not as bad as my near 200 from yesterday but still unplayable for pvp). I'm sure after 10 or 11pm my time the ping will drop down again.
At least so far today I'm not losing packets.

I didn't have any trouble with lag until today. Now I am lagging consistently. It's not horrible but is hard to do much of anything besides trick or treat and even that is frustrating. This is on LS.

Sounds like the UO servers are getting packets dropped during the times of day ISPs have been talking about deprioritizing the heaviest bandwidth users. heh
