Mine lags hard all day, and like some others have said, clears up late at night... in a trace route everything is fine until the ea servers (last 2 hops for me) then it doubles and sometimes almost triples the latency.

Most of my guild is having the same issue... (Great Lakes server)

Sorry to be a day late responding Draconi, just posted that and went to bed.
The lag I had was on Legends, Skara Brae and anywhere around Khaldun. Both Trammel, if it makes a diff. And around Luna too, altho Luna always seems to lag for me. *grins*

Log in screen was showing awful numbers (cant remember them now) with packet loss varying, but all upwards of 25.

No idea how to do a traceroute, I'm just a player *sheepish look*

I'm still lagging on east coast shards early in the evening. It seems to clear up by midnight EST or so, but it's been going on for the last few days. It seems to hit west coast shards every now and then as well, but not that often. I'll run in game a bit and completely freeze up, then run some more.

Llllaaaaggggggggg is bad on Pac as well. Was a bit bad for fighting Tuesday. Wed was insane. Been dieing a LOT!!! I fight like mad, FREEZE, and POOF I am dead. Never even see what hits me. Complete lock-up.
It took me 1 1/2 hours to tend my plants at my house near the Harpy Dungeon!!!
I have also been trying to redo one of my other houses for the last 3 DAYs!!! House is on Arctic Isle. Lag is bad but in Customize Mode....OMG!!!! I place a piece if something and have to wait 20 sec or more to see if it actually landed. There were 3 other computers running WOW in the same room Tuesday. Soo...I waited for everyone else to log out. I then tried again with ONLY my puter running. I had hoped that this way just a glitch on my end....Until I spent an hour trying to redo my floor tiles on ONE floor. Finally gave up!!! Same thing yesterday and today!!! Bahhh!!! This stinks!!! I WANT MY UO BACK!!!!!!

Still immensely laggy. This is absolutely ridiculous and inexcusable for a company like Electronic Arts, and especially for a game struggling to keep active players.

So, you're a gaming company but can't solve a lag issue on your servers? I connected to UO on my home connection (Verizon FiOS 20Mbps/20Mbps) and have at least a 625ms latency right across the board on all servers.

However, when I ping greatlakes.owo.com I get a response time of 16ms.

Simply put, what is going on? It's been days. Connecting to Ultima Online on a 20Mbps connection should be a laughing matter.. However, the only laughing matter is that the game servers are responding with 625ms latency on a 20Mbps connection..

Any chance your EA Madden servers are anywhere near your UO servers?

I was playing Madden the other night and experienced the worst dang lag. I ended up doing a 15 yard punt one time because the lag made it impossible to start/stop the kicking controls.

The only time I've experienced any UO lag recently has been on Siege during the last week. It was impossible to even play.

Sonoma, Origin and Pac have been perfectly fine for me.

i have lagged off and on somewhat since the last publish, but today gameplay on LS is utterly impossible. about all i can do is work on skills or refill my kegs or some mundane crap like that.

I have a theory as to whats causing the lag issues,

I believe it has to do with the stages of the invasion. Some point between the sigils being corrupted and that town being invaded it seems it lags everyone out when the spawn is just about to appear. I noticed this while trying to find an invaded town this morning and seeing minoc NPC's go from normal to hated but no shadow spawn for a good hour or so like it was stuck trying to load it all in .

Well on Legends, there's been no spawn appearing...so that can't be it.
And for the length of time this has been a problem, spawn woulda had to be "spawning" steady now for 5 days *grins*
Altho, I dont discount that being a spur of the moment load issue, I don't see how it can be this continuous lag we are experiencing.

If it was the invasion causing it...every single person on that shard would be lagging, but its only some people, not everyone.

Thats one hop prior to the fert07 one. According to ARin.net/whois it is an at&t worldnet server. My isp (sbc/at&t) claims it is not their server tho...that it is just some server out there on the internet, and say there is nothing they can do.

For what it's worth Draconi, I have noticed that the problem seems to begin around 10 am or so EST for the eastern shards I've tried (LS, Atlantic, Chessie and Cats). I normally play early (6 to 7 am), and haven't noticed extreme pings or packet loss. By 10 am or so the pings will jump up to 480 or so with packet loss from 33 to 50%. The worse part of the connection route has been like everyone's, the ea servers.

Looks like it's not just a UO thing. Similar traceroute anomalies are appearing with people just trying to connect to pogo.com and sporepedia among other things, with similar end hops. Looks like most of the problem happens at the border to EA's network. I realize this is probably obvious to most people, but sometimes it's worth stating the obvious. Not enough throughput on the gateway routers?

What doesn't seem obvious to me is sometimes the first connection outside of EA's IP block is flaky. 12.116.77.34 specifically seems to be a problem sometimes.

This is still high priority for us and we are looking into it. If you are still experiencing latency issues that seem abnormally high, please send in your trace routes.

I wish I could snap my fingers and say "lag begone!" but I haven't quite learned that ability yet.

Right, if it were the server code, generally everyone would experience it (unless it was a script only being attached to certain people). Believe me, that's always possible, but so far we haven't seen any evidence of any infinite/bad loops or blackholes.

I think the information so far is really making a case for the east coast, and someone mentioned it could be affecting other services as well.

We too are lagging in Europa. My husband plays on his laptop, me on a desktop. I lag, he doesn't. He lags, I don't. Same IP, though we do have a different net supply to most people - it arrives via a dish on the side of the house. It should actually speed up our game play, but we haven't noticed this yet, it's about the same as it was with BT broadband. I'll work out how to do the traceroute later and post the result. Our supplier is www.hebrides.net if it's of any help to you.

ye the lag on eu is rather anoying at times espicially sl base seems to get some freak lags which together with the no points for sigils has gotten me to stop taking sigils...

also the faction towns seems to get "sticky" now and then when playing

this is all fel side btw as I don't really play in tram...

though the lag has gotten less over the weekend it still seems to hit in now and then on the positive side it hits everyone so no one gets overrun on the negative side dexxers/archers still seem to be swinging while it happens?

Draconi, It's affecting the West Coast servers as well.

I am routinely having "pulses" of high lag, connecting from Kentucky to the Lake Austin shard.

The lag will hit, and stay for 30 minutes to 3 hours, then just as mysteriously disappear.

Making matters worse is an independent problem with my ISP that sometimes hits (may be an effect of the new VOIP modem that was installed, being defective - any suggestions on how to run diagnostics on a cable modem?) The cable issues last 10 minutes to 2 hours.

Situation 1: Problem at EA's gateway server... traces with uotrace starting at 10-20 ms hitting my ISP, 70-90 to the west coast, jumping to 200-400 at the west coast EA gateway. Happens several times a day.
Situation 2: Problem with my ISP... first jump to my ISP 200-600, everythign from there crap. happens about 1 time per day,
Situation 3: Both hit at once... I end up with 1000-2000 pings to LA, and it takes a minor miracle just to get the character home to log. only happens about 1 time a week. I actually had a UO assist begging macro (6 specific NPCs, I move round between them to keep all in range, so it is blatantly obvious I'm attended, considering I beg in Heartwood aka Scripter Central) TIME OUT trying to beg side by side NPCs.

i've checked my hops and theres no noticeable difference, just seems to get what was described as a pulsing lag.

its fine, then you get a pulse where you lag out, then back to normal, does this all day until late evening when it calms down a bit but its still there

you can literally feel the difference as you play, its extremely annoying especially when theres speedhackers who seem to be flying through the air as im wading through mud. UO never used to be like this?

I normally lag playing there but not like this and not this much its just fine then bam unplayable and stays for quite some time more then the normal few minutes i would wait out. have had others there say thing happening to them and they ppl that never lag... well almost never

A lot of people are mentioning that this happens at particular times of day. Perhaps it would be useful for people to provide information on what time they are having issues along with which servers they play on to make the information easier to correlate?
