Just curious, but weren't these types of sandals highly bannable due to being made by vendor npc exploit?

10 minutes later, these show up. (hope we don't have another exploit breaking out)

No, we cannot dye sandals on dyetubs and the slimes worked just like dyetubs.

Maybe they are just left-overs from the old exploit? We sure don't need any more bugs. :sad4:

Since there are so many AOS sandals out there, I rarely check them out unless I am curious about the name, hehe. Good catch, Wolfie. :)

Since you can make sandals out of other leathers, can you use tokuno dyes on such sandals? I'm not at home, so I can't jump on test center and see.

There are dyeable sandals.
When AOS rewards came out you could pick brown sandals that can be dyed. I have many.

You could then take them to be dyed in AOS slime event. WISH I remembered I had them.

Ah well
MYSTERY solved.

Yes, they will, but the tooltip for the sandles will say "Barbed Sandals" or something of the like depending on material used. The ones up top do not (It looked like the bottom one may have been Tokuno dyed, but it doesn't have the mention of being made from non-normal leather.

The AOS sandals I believe all should have extra text chosen when they were obtained including the character who chose them's name.

The mystery is NOT solved. These are NOT AoS sandals, even the dyable type because those have to have at least 1 line of AoS text. I do agree that these are possibly from the "old" exploit but weird to see not 1, but 2 pair pop up in a matter of a few minutes. Time will tell I suppose whether or not we got a new exploit.

Hmm.

How do you make sandals? Do you use cloth?

If you do, then yeah that could be BOD reward cloth color. The top one being the 'bubble gum" color.

Or were you talking about something else, some other BOD reward I'm not aware of?

How were they blessed, then? Clothing Bless Deed?

Ok, LOL. These are not BOD sandals due to we cannot get BOD colors in Hot Pink or Invuln Blue. Sandals are made from leather, meaning player made sandals can only come in Green, Red, Blue and Brown (leather colors). A few years back, there was an EXPLOIT involving the abuse of sandals and npc vendors. They were highly bannable being due to being made via "exploit". I am just hoping this exploit or a similiar one hasn't come about once again.

It's not about the sandals per say, it's about whether people are finding a way to exploit. Sandals today, artifacts again tomorrow? I can already see people looking for ways to dupe/exploit new faction items.

I have a ton of old sandals from ages ago when they would spawn on NPC's. You used to be able to use "Enticement" and get the NPC's to follow you outside the guard zone, and then kill them and take their sandals.

It's possible that the sandals you are seeing here are some of those. We also had quite a few "Item Bless Deeds" back then, and it was very common for people to bless their sandals so they wouldn't have to spend hours trying to find that one color again.

Wrong again. Wrong type of npc's. Regular npc's gave muted colors, hence blues, browns, greys, reds and pinks..and silver. Most likely I am hoping these 2 pair in my OP came from the old npc player VENDOR exploit and we won't be seeing a ton of them soon.

No. Its a shoe colour. If there was some resist buff or another property then yes (for a given value of 'care').

If you are still uncertain then try this test: Call your mother and ask her if it matters that another character in a game you have been playing has some different coloured shoes to your character. If she thinks you are nuts and changes the subject to talk about your father's cross-dressing then you have an answer.

The most ridiculous part of this thread is that someone from EA that sees this thread is more likely to ban the player with some wierd color sandals than someone that posts screenshots of themselves running speedhacks.

Here's the thing.....There is a kind of a lowering of expectations that goes on in UO. The more and more people get away with smaller things, a vacuum is created wherein bigger things can also thrive. I knew there was a duping problem when I saw just about every PvPer on the LS shard running around with a Shroud of Tal'Keesh.

I've seen people on these boards defending a utility that let you see what tiles you could teleport to. I see this as a major advantage in PvP, some of you defended it as harmless. I don't see how it could possibly be called harmless.

I saw people on these boards defending the Vine Chord Sandal dupe.

Those of you who are saying "it's just shoes, who cares," have a point.

But how far would it go?

*shrugs*

I wouldn't even notice sandals for My part...But I can 100% understand the concern. 100%.

The top picture you posted looks blue-red on my screen like the BoD color, but I could be wrong. I agree they aren't AoS sandals, but there are other possibilities beyond cheating.

It may be that when sandals are dyed with Tokuno dyes they lose their material tag. I've noticed when I dye some wooden furniture of a special wood with Tokuno dyes (I'm a roleplayer, I waste incredibly expensive materials), they lose the wood name in their tag. Something similar is seen when people dye arrows in hopes of passing them off as some rare item.

I do have to ask: who gets so obsessed as to find multiple people with possible cheating sandals? It isn't even as if these are really special colors since there are probably AoS ones with the same colors (and without the cost of an item bless deed).

Well said. They have banned the vendor exploit sandals for years, either stay on the ball and keep banning for em or change the rule. The more rules they let slip, the more people feel free to get away with stuff.

the OP has a valid point.
of course they are JUST sandals, but they also represent what could spin out of control yet again in the form of illegal artifacts and god knows what else!
i personally have very little knowledge of how ppl dupe or even script but i damn well have enuf sense to see the ramifications of such a thing; def something worth investigating at the very least.

some of you say, "get a life"?

well i say, "get a brain!"

I guess I can see two sides to this one....

First off.... They are just sandals... they give ZERO unfair advantage in-game... they do not add any additional resist, no additional skill or stat... So if someone has found a way to make them blue or red or purple so what.....

Then the argument that I do understand well.... if they are willing to exploit this and get away with it then what's next? Will they stop there? Doubtful... so while it is a harmless thing it many respects.... it just leaves the door wide open for more abuse.

wow sure hope i dont get banned, :( , i have a set of blood red sandals on one char and a set of bright blue ones on another like the pic.

im not sure where i got them tho, think i paid like 15k on a vendor for them.. didnt know they were bannable :(

btw the vendor had a bunch of brightly colored sandals.. some were red, some blue and some green..

they dont say aos on them tho.. some did and were blessed.. those were more expensive.

see the problem with banning ppl for things??
I HAVE NO IDEA SANDALS DIDNT COME IN DIFFERENT COLORS :(

Yes, Wolfie - those are illegal and were obtained by exploit.

QUESTION
How can I tell if an item is not allowed?

Answer
In the long history of Ultima Online, there have been times when certain items were able to enter the game world due to the result of a bug or exploit. In the past we have been hesitant to post a list of such items, for some unscrupulous players might see such a list and decide to attempt to recreate such illegal items. However, in recognition of player concerns with regard to the growing inability to discern the differences between these illegal exploit/bug items and legitimate & acceptable rare items, we now feel that there are certain exploit-based items that can be publicly listed and discussed in an open forum.

The items listed below were created or obtained through the use of an exploit or bug, and are not able to be obtained or acquired through any legitimate means. They are prohibited within Ultima Online, and players who are found to have, use, trade, or sell them may have action taken against their account.

These items are listed because they continue to exist in the world even though they are not re-creatable, but please do not consider these listed items the only ones that are unacceptable within UO. Just because an item may not be on this list does not necessarily mean it is allowed. We reserve the right to change and update this list at any time.

  • Portable forges, looms, spinning wheels, or other obviously not portable add-ons
  • Water or grass tiles
  • Silver steeds (except for Siege Perilous, and Mugen)
  • Tame ancient wyrms
  • Neon sandals (not BOD reward or AoS gift sandals)
  • Khaldun puzzle box
  • Chyloth's Shroud (red death shroud) and/or Staff.
  • Portable Mouseholes
It is critical for all players to understand the following information about this list of exploit-created items:
  • There are exploit-created items within the world that are not on this list, but just because items are not on this list, does not necessarily mean they are allowed.
  • We reserve the right to change this list at any time.
  • This list will only note items that were created with bugs or exploit that can no longer be created.
  • Game Masters will not discuss the legality of an item. The Development team reserves the right to remove any item from the game.
  • The purchase, sale, and ownership of these items are at your own risk.

For like the 3rd time, NO we did NOT have the option to have NO text on anything for an AoS gift! We had the choice of 1 line of text, or 2. And the reason I KNOW this is because I still have AoS gift choices left on a few shards I do not play.

Stepping in as Craftsman forum Mod....

1. The first pair is almost certain to be the red-blue (Who the hell came up with THAT name? the actual color name in the real world is MAGENTA) BOD Reward sandals.

2. CBDs can be used on sandals

3. Any of the tubs that dye normal cloth can be used on footwear, last I checked. I know it's true for shoes, boots & thigh boots (as well as fur boots, elven boots and the SE footwear), but never checked it for sandals (if I was home, I'd check).

4. Given #3, above, then it should hold true that the AOS-color event slimes could be used on normal footwear.

5. Some NPCs sell odd-colored footwear. For example, the Luna Cobbler on Lake Austin sells all his boots as a color similar to (but not the same as, as far as I can tell) Horned Leather. While not neon, the pair that are 99% certain to be BOD reward sandals could theoretically be an odd-color NPC-bought pair from somewhere.

Sandals are not made from cloth, therefore they cannot be dyed with a regular dye tub unless they are the dyeable AOS version.

Actually what interferes with my enjoyment is the rampant cheating that goes on while the GMs have their hands tied. I don't care about some stupid sandals, but I do care about blantant scripting. When they have rules in place but do not enforce them, that tells the populace that cheating is easy. And that changes the nature of the community. Little cosmetic things like the changeling dupes and these sandals, if they are new exploits, just add to the avalanche. Hey look, we can make and buy and sell these things! It's like gateway cheating, and at some point some player who never heard of stratics is going to get burned when they blow 500k on a pair of pretty sandals only to have them deleted or turned into something worthless, or even get a mark on their account.

So like I said, they need to either make owning these sandals legal or get rid of them quick.

I know that I SHOULD care if it's an exploit, but honestly I don't. It's stupid that we can't dye sandals in the first place. We can have boots and shoes in whatever color we want, but not sandals. If silly rules like weren't in place, this thread would have no reason to exist. :coco:

Confirmed, impossible to craft as shown. I would know... (crafter for 11 years.) Also impossible to obtain from a monster or reward system (including BOD and AoS.) And I was a sandal farmer back in the day and know every last shade you could get from those npcs. Nope. Not even close.
