Third Dawn Question

I miss it alot, tho I have aclimated to the Legacy client. I did try KR and it was a bit too buggy for my particular playstyle (PvP) tho I used it extensively for crafting and resource gathering. Right now I can't use it at all because my on-board video card does not meet minimum requirements (my other vid card went kaput).

As for what I miss about the 3D client ... the slightly more room in the standard size backpack. I didnt tend to expand it, but I could put things like rune books in the bottom of it and not have loot drop on top of them.

I miss being able to initiate a trade via the character status bar. You could drop an item on the other persons status bar to open trade, rather than having to drop it on the actual char (made for less dropped objects when trying to initiate a trade). You could feed a pet by dropping food on its status bar - great for when a pet is bobbing around while in battle or standing under something.

I desperately miss docking icons! I am a tad OCD and hate it when my icons are even a milimeter out of allignment!

I miss pet bars being half the size of PC bars.

And ... I really miss seeing PC's dance a jig when Barracoon pipes a song!

I have recently worked with KR on my husband's system and while it has some of these features, they are implemented in such a way as to be more annoying than good. I also HATE the status bar interaction on KR. It is the ONLY way to interact with many things, and that isnt right, either. You should have both options. I dont like the fact that I have to use shift to drag a portion of a pile, rather than the other way around. This is UO for goodness sake! We all have tons of piles of things that are over weight-bearing size and this "option" makes it worse, not better, to be moving things in KR.

You should make that shorter and send it in via the feedback form. They are re-doing the KR client for SA and they are looking for ideas.

Does anyone out there miss the Third Dawn client? Also did you migrate to legacy or KR?
In the LBR days I was almost always playing 3d. Once AoS came out and destroyed the 3d client, I went back to strictly playing 2d. There hasn't been a good 3d client since.

meh ... I know I should ... I probably will. I just hate the impersonal feel of the feedback form. It doesnt even send you an automated "message received" note. It feels like sending a message into the void.

it may seem like it but you're not. that is the best way to contact the dev team. it would waste so much time to try and respond to everyone, it's much better that she spends the time actually reading and filing away the ideas, bugs, and other feedback. better than PM'ing her, sending an e-mail, paging a GM, or complaining to the billing department over the phone

I do know that. I have had a question I submitted end up on the FoF. I just wish the feedback system acknowledged a message receipt, at least.

The day that any company decides automation is preferred over human contact is a very sad day ....

I miss 3d. I play a combination of 2d and KR now. I gave KR a good try and used it through the evil shadow Moonglow event, even though the graphics were not entirely supported. Recently I have found myself using 2d more than KR because KR is crashier and because there are some things I can't do as easily in KR e.g. feed my fish (although I may be wrong about that), dig up treasure (the KR map is not helpful) and fish up SOSs.

I really miss the resizable containers from 3d.

I like the zoom out view of KR as I can see monsters from further away.

I like mining in KR. If you set it up right, it's very fast.

it's not automation.

the current way it works is after you send feedback you get sent to the herald blog. i suppose it should say "Thanks for submitting feedback" or something like that.

KR > Legacy >>>>>> Third Dawn.

Third Dawn was just so much fail as a client... To me at least.

My idea of automation vs. human contact and yours appear to differ. Automation (to me) = send a feedback form vs. open an idea thread and have an OPEN DISCUSSION of pro/cons. Automation = canned GM message vs. GM coming to discuss the matter. Automation = "Press 1 for UO, Press 2 for DAoC" vs. "Helllo, this is So-an-SO, how can I help you?"

On the topic: I did send a feedback with UI suggestions for both Legacy and SA.

I miss the LBR paperdolls and HATE HATE HATED the AoS ones in 3D. (The stance in the 2D paperdoll still looks prissy to me in comparison with a natural relaxed stance, but I have gotten used to it :) )

...

I miss a few of the technical improvements of Third Dawn:

- Dockable icons/healthbars (We have a ticket up at the exchange to figure this one out in XML for the custom UIs now)
- Dragging items on to health bars
- Expandible backpacks
- Smoother/crisper animation due to the model technology used

However, what I do NOT miss is the way the Zoom worked, and how stretching the game window to fit a larger screen area than a postcard caused the 2d item and terrain graphics to pixelate and distort.

I (obviously) converted over to KR as soon as I possibly could and am glad I did so. While it's still missing a few 3d UI enhancements, overall it was a HUGE step forward for the game.

I'm looking forward to getting the revamped version and working with it when I am able to do so.
