11/20/2024 Greetings, We’ve received reports and have investigated instances of latency associated with the Treasures of the Shattered Sanctum event during peak population periods. In an effort to address this concern we will be pushing a hotfix beginning with North American shards during each shard’s regularly scheduled maintenance on November 21, 2024. As a result of this change non-paragon spawn will no longer leave corpses when killed during the event. Im still shocked that in the 5 years I have been gone they still havent done anything about scripting or bots. This is where the lag is coming from not the corpses LOL.

How exhactly scripting or bots are causing the lag? Look at luna on atl, trying to walk around the town is prob same as what ppl experience in the invasion towns, i dont see though scripters and bots shopping

yeah I can't move when the wad of gargoyles fly past, but I sorta wish I knew how they did that. I bet they are getting alot of drops. It reminds me of a machine gun compared to my slow bow lol.

What I have noticed is that some towns seem worse than others.

Smaller island towns - Skara, Jhelom in example - have been awful compared to towns where the spawn is much more spread out, such as East Brit, Trinsic, Yew.

Scripters cause lag by running scripts in 3rd party programs. These don't even have to be the egregious ones with 8+ characters all moving together. This can be someone playing a single character that is just running some automation or auto targeting crap. There are probably a fair amount of these scripts that are just super inefficient. Ever attend an EM event and a scripter dies and they just spam the crap out of Enemy of One and it fills the screen with messages? Because their script is so dumb, all it sees is "Enemy of One is off, try to turn on" and its just a spam fest. Every one of those commands the script is sending goes to the server and causes lag.

They also didn't say the corpses are causing the lag, but a by-product of the fix is that non-paragon corpses will be deleted. This tells me it is something happening when a mob dies that is causing lag, and on grinders like Atlantic where there are hundreds of mobs dying every few seconds, I imagine it adds up.

I will just say, if you are looting the trash mobs during these events, you are doing it wrong. I am noticing a trend between posters here and on the official forums that are complaining about not being able to loot the trash mobs and getting low event drops. If you are stopping to loot non-paragon mobs, you are going to be killing less things. Event drops are going to sell for a couple mil each through the whole event. You are better off just selling those than trying to make money by looting corpses. It's also just these event mobs, its not like they turned off corpse looting globally.

Those saying this is an Atlantic only issue -- its not. There were players from Japanese shards complaining about similar lag, and if this ToT follows the trends of every other ToT event, the players will eventually rotate through all the shards because they want to get drops for all their cross-shard characters or to sell on all shards. It may not be a problem now 2 days into the event, but this change is future proofing the issue for all shards.

Players wanted town invasions again, we got town invasions again. This format is much better than the previous titan invasions, where everyone scrambled to get the mage generals first for the spellbooks and then left, leaving a handful of people to clean up the trash no one wanted to kill just so the town would end and move on to another town.

I have estimated 18k an hour I will lose please x this by 40 hours a week for duration of event add in current shard market value of undying flesh and deposit in my bank please

Lol if you were looting for gold instead of next kill you are really off track to get more gold 1 tot will sell for more than all gold you will collect during the entire event. You always complain on everything man whitout any good reason most of the time.

I've always gotten much more than o needed and all the gold why do I suffer for an Atlantic only problem

Im not agreeing with the person you responded to, but the ClassicUO client can open corpse and 1 click loot. First event I have looted gold from, I just do the ones with 1500 or more gold on the body.

The lag, seems to be a com.plex issue. Its seen in the EM events where you have a large # of players in the sam spot spamming aggro, lots of floppy pets and lots of flappy garg players. Suspect it is not as simple as # of corpses waiting to decay alone, and doubt the scripters alone either. Likely inherent to the server software server side more than client side. May also have at least in part to do with ISP-server traffic density and the server core architecture when confronted with a massive demand for processing all of a sudden.
Also : Not fair to penalize ATL for this.
And: When the killed mob corpses just poof rather than regularly decay, a killed player's pack drops is usually looted by surviving mobs in the area, and if you come back after rezzing, and try to kill the looting mobs and they just poof, you will not get your drops back, and they will just poof, so lost permanently. These mobs definitely loot your body. So not a great solution.
No way to see what is going on at server side, or any idea what servers are used in the cloud, so all this is just guesswork.
It would be an interesting problem to tackle for a software/hardware expert, and very useful for when player participation increases like this.
