Make West Brit Bank great again... ?

I want to know, who in their right mind let these West Brit bank changes go through? Whilst I understand fel still looks classic, its a VvV town and not a viable trading and socialising spot in UO.

Can we get all the tat bar the moongates removed from West Brit bank area? At least on Europa shard please.

It seems Stevie Wonder + Ray Charles have been decorating and it looks disgusting.

Exactly which changes are you referring to?. The bank itself was subject to a competition to design new deco for it and what you see is what we got. Like it or not if you were playing then you could have submitted your own design if you had a better design in mind and if you were not -----. If you are talking about the meeting area with the chairs etc that was carried out by Messana at the request of the players who regularly attend the still daily meetings to assist new and returning players. As a regular attendee I am quite happy with the meeting setup and I couldn't care less about the appearance of the bank itself.

I don't mind the seating area, even if it is poorly placed, im pretty sure it'd be better on the roof of the bank, seats and carpet in the middle of the road don't make any sense to me. As a regular attendee myself when I can on various characters(I used to come on either Jin or Nadir and throw cheques on the floor for the new players to pick up. Admittedly I haven't been for a while.

I was inactive at the time of said competition, problem is i fail to see the point of the poorly designed new bank area. Its a load of slapdash tat and it'd be easier on the eyes if it looked the way it did or does still in fel.

The whole idea of banksitting is out dated. Players hung out at the bank because you had to. There were no vendors or global chat back then. So you had to go to the bank. We even have vendor search now.

The game has changed so much that standing around at a bank isn't what players do anymore. Unless there is major game changes it isn't going to come back.

The bank sitting skill is useful only in Luna. But I agree with JC that bank sitting is just so 90's anymore.

Things change even for the worse. Maybe its not easy on the eyes but then again some art I think is just plain ugly while others think the same art is beautiful.

Europa is a bit special it seems. We old people love our chairs and use them every night for ower an hour. Sometimes we could need more chairs even. We meet and greet new people and give advice, get to know them and eachother. Guilding, equipping and giving a hand . We represent different languages every night. We drink coffee and eat pizza! Everything is layed back and nice. Before we got chairs locked down there were always some not so funny guys picking up our chairs and tables and trashed all our crafted items. Not a good way to show new players what UO is like. We are very happy we got the meeting place right where the returning players first show up. And the freesharders and even many young players pass there . People of the shard tell the ones they meet to come to Britain 7 to 8 CET .
And I dont hear people complain about the look at all . We like it and are glad Mesanna did help us this way. We have been here most every night for more than 3 years and have no thought of ending.

It's very 90's ??? well if ppl like to meet that way where is the problem ?
I just remind you that over 3 years we are holding that meeting to help new and returning players and as i can see it s working...
If one doesnt need to socialize in the game it s their problem...
This meeting is just not only about helping but also created a time in the day where you can meet ppl and make new friends... start new guild for instance ? The game is dieing of slefish ppl who dont even care about others although the communauty feeling was one of the main asset of that game...
So if you dont like it, fair enough... just let those who do having their nice moments there...

Can't speak for the deco on any shards other than Atl & LS, but if it's done well, I don't see why not. I do agree on Europa's looking terrible though. If it can be done, it could use a redesign.

This. If you see people banksitting now, the vast majority of them are afk; I do it a lot when I need to burn murder counts (just as I did over a decade ago.) Some will sell armor they're wearing (I see it often on Atl), but that's about it.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of invasion of Luna, just for the lulz. I did enjoy the old Ogre General/Security Consultant invasion of WBB, but I doubt something like that could be done again on most shards. It's not 2005 - on most shards, you won't get enough people to kill that many monsters unless it's an EM event.

Like JC said, bank sitting isn't nearly as popular as it used to be so some shards requested decorations to Brit bank as a way to try luring people back there and make it popular for bank sitting again. It didn't work, but I think the decorations are nice on most shards. The only place anyone really bank sits these days is Luna, and that's mostly just when they want to show off by wearing a full rares suit, or a really good pvp suit etc. Once people could socialize by talking in general chat bank sitting was no longer needed.

I wish there a set of stables that was a little bit closer to WBB. The capital city oughtta have more stables.

I think the spellweaving mastery had a small negative effect on the remaining Brit Bank loiterers too. While I sure don't miss having to sit on the circle for a half hour waiting to get a full focus, you used to always be able to reliably find a few additional people there who would either hang out on the circle or hang out near by until there was a big enough group to jump on and refresh.

I wouldn't mind an invasion event again. It was one of my favorite many moons ago.

Something I would like to see in an invasion event is for there to be multiple towns invaded - possibly with different towns having different 'level' of invaders. Maybe make one town have a lower end invasion (lizardmen, snakes) and another town have legitimate high level spawn roaming around (i.e., the types of spawn we see on level 4 of champs, maybe some paragons). Maybe have a town with something in between. Offer something, whether it be a statue like you suggest, or something else that could be used for turn in points or some event-related chain.

Just a thought.

I built that for a short while after finally getting my plot in Luna that I had always wanted... and a dear friends said to me "Oh I'm so happy you got that plot I just know you'll make something beautiful there!"

And I remembered that many years ago in my old guild the Yew Militia one of my other dear friends had a character named "Trailerpark Pete"... and it was a joke but our Guild Leader at the time thought "OMG you can't have an RP character named that! It might be considered Racist or something!" So he told Pete he'd have to chose another name! So Pete who was the nicest guy says Ok.... I was thinking of changing it anyway..... So then he became "Polynikes" named after someone from old greek mythology I believe...... anyway so a few days later the GM quits after blowing up on the forums with "OMG you are still doing it! Poly=Polyester! Nikes=Tennis shoes! That's still Racist!" To which we all were like WTF?!?!?!

But for awhile everyone in the guild got behind pete and had named a bunch of characters things like Trailerpark Sue, Trailerpark Sam, Trailerpark Sally.... etc... Was fun... so I was just thinking what would be more fitting than to turn Luna into a trailerpark!

So they were squatters.... squatting on that plot of land I'd acquired... and I'd even put up an eviction notice and everything.... was so funny. And I still have the bulletin board I'd put in the little outhouse there, as another friend says to me.... Willa you can't have an outhouse without having somewhere to scrawl on there.... So I was like ok so I put a bulletin board in there and people wrote some of the funniest things on it....

For a good time pidgeon.... etc...

Sometimes I miss that little trailer.... but hehe was fun while it lasted.

I personally like the idea someone had a long time ago that you could "rent" one of the rooms in an inn... this would give you the ability to keep 3 chests of things in the room... if you stop paying rent, run out of gold, or quit UO whatever the stuff then becomes like pickable chests. Anyone with lockpicking etc.. can come along and get your stuffs. I think if they put a limit on it like one room per account per shard that would be good. So you can have a house on your regular shard and rent rooms on other shards. Might be a good gold sink. Say charge 10k a month? If it was low like that then new players could use it as housing if they wanted while they are looking for a shard to play on but it would be 120k a year so that would remove gold from game slowly.

What do you mean no one comes unless they want a circle? Have you ever been there 6pm Uk time? The meetings where we chat and help new and returning players are quite popular. Often all the seats are taken.

I have complained about some of the EM/GM deco in the past but no one seems interested in getting rid of it. I think city elected mayors do have some control over these situations. I believe they are allowed one decorated building thing a year. I believe most redo their offices though. Our Trinsic mayor has hinted that with the proper bribe he could have the piano area removed from the Trinsic west bank on Legends I think some people see some of this nonsense as shrines to pasts EMs. But if they look wonky they should go. Who leaves a piano outside in the weather for years?

What may I ask does the law of averages have to do with anything? and when did they appear in the terms of reference?. The original post and i quote,said,

Nothing there about averages. If the players on ANY shard use the bank then the law of averages means absolutely zilch. I see another poster has stated that the Asian shards use it too. Therefore a bald statement that NO ONE ELSE will be using the bank seems somewhat over the top and has no relevance to any law of averages. At least one shard and possibly others make this statement erroneous. Bringing in extra qualifiers does not make it correct. As Morbeus said if you haven't been why comment?. On Europa, West Brit Bank IS used and hopefully long may it continue.
