Not responding isn't exactly solid proof. Its easy to miss GM messages down in the bottom of the screen, especially in the EC (where they're only in the journal). Were the GM to reveal themselves and attempt to interact, that would be an entirely different story.
Also, nobody is suggesting that the GMs flit around UO banning people, just that they have the power to do so when offenses are blatantly obvious. Even to the basic player, multiboxers are fairly obvious.
The ToS/RoS needs teeth.
No, the straw man here is trying to imply a 1 to 1 relationship between a "real life" analogy and what's happening in UO. Analogies are comparison of things based on structure, they don't need to directly relate.

There is no relation in structure or reality between the terms of service for a video game and the laws of a nation. One can be changed at anytime without notification, enforced or not enforced at anytime, and without repercussion from the general populace.

You're right that EA doesn't have to enforce the ToS/RoC, but it'd sure as hell be nice. That's pretty much the basis for the outrage over Mesanna's statement. Many people are sick and tired of cheaters running roughshod over UO's legitimate players.
Key word is EA doesnt LEGALLY have to enforce, but it might be a good idea to enforce if they actually want to keep people playing the game.
Its a hell of a lot better than it used to be, when they were actually banning players in droves. Cheating used to be a hell of a lot worse than multiboxing and scripting(which has gone on since the beginning of UO). When was the last time we had a large scale dupe fiasco? It used to be regularly. The RMT sites while still around have dwindled to few. While one side will see this as the signs of a dying game, the populace still playing can see it as a leveling of the playing field. While not totally level, it never will be. We don't live in a Utopian society. Where an advantage can be taken it will be. Its human nature. Not everyone is a saint. The vast majority of people are not.
The problem on EA's side is their bottom line. UO is almost two decades old. If they go about enforcing every infraction we will be left with a game that looks like The Realm (approx. 250 total players last time I checked 5 years ago) Then what?
There has to be a balance if we want this game to stay alive. Personally the scripters and cheaters don't affect me. I see them as helping a game I grew up with stay alive, and for all I care the more paying accounts the merrier. I don't care how they play, what they do, etc...
Now if we want to talk about something that REALLY affects gameplay, lets talk about the people in gen chat who can't speak without using numerous racial slurs. That I'd be all for an auto ban hammer.
No one multiboxed in the beginning of UO because you couldn't open more than one account on a computer at a time. Now you can.
I think if they banned some of the cheaters, more might curb their use of the illegal programs. Could it hurt the game? Sure. But so does the current tactic of sticking their fingers in their ears, humming loudly and turning a blind eye.
Steam could bring in more people to help keep the game aloft a few more years, but how many will want stay with the all-but-accepted culture of cheating in UO? (not that I expect UO to be part of VAC)
I don't think they should turn the GMs loose like the hounds of Hell to punish the wicked, regardless of the severity of their offenses. But institute a 3-Strikes system and then enforce it. If someone is willing to risk getting caught 3 times, chances are they will keep offending. Cancer shouldn't be coddled, it should be met with an aggressive response.

Wrong. It could be done illegally YEARS before Supreeme "opened the door". That kind of pissed me off putting him as the scapegoat when that option has been around for a very long time used by the very same type of people that now do this multibox thing.
Multi boxing did not start when EA allowed it. You've been able to open multiple clients since UO started via hard drive containers, even before certain unapproved programs started coming about.
Ditto, I got a scowl on my face as well when she put that on Supreeme. It was ******** when she said it and she knows it seeing as how shes been working on UO since 1999.
Lol...naive much? The reason it became implemented within the client was to level the playing field without advising people to use 3rd party apps. I've been multi-clienting since Day1..I didn't have a house and it was more secure then dropping items at the Inn to move to my other account.

Well I knew you had to cheat and use an illegal 3rd party program or otherwise falsely do things with cheats... but I NEVER saw it like I do all the time now. NEVER...
I used to run 2 or 3 programs at the same time by using multiple users on my computer and having to switch users/desktops... which at the time was "legal" so long as you could answer a GM when they appeared..... To do things like Play 3 characters for some RP event I was doing.... but that again VERY different from the Multi-boxing we get now where they are all controlled in tandem...
I give a rats about someone scripting up their magery or whatever in the privacy of their own home or whatever.... big whoop..... what irritates me about the BS that's going on now is.... I play 1 character..... if there are 20 people at an IDOC I have a 1:20 chance to get any particular item one would think. Quickest reflexes or connection would prevail.... however if I am 1 person at an IDOC and I'm with mister Multi-box cheater running every loot script on all 10 of his multiboxed characters I have a 1:20000000 chance to pick up anything before the entire area is picked clean. Infact if I blink when the house drops I won't even be able to tell the house was even there. Same goes for if I'm doing an EM event and I go there and say there are 50 people at the event one would think that you would have a 1:50 shot at getting a drop right? WRONG. Because Multiboxer is there running all the scripts in the book healing mulitiple pets and everything else x10.... so again my chance of getting a drop are now drastically reduced and the Multiboxer makes of with 3 or 4 of a 20 item drop. Then turns around and sells them all for 200+ million in Gold or 2 billion in gold each. And do you think for one second that this greedy SoB gives a crap about the event? Heck no they are there to make $ plain and simple..... so mister mulitibot then goes and sells the gold for $ or whatever and then sells all the stuff from the IDOC for $ or to a Duper or whatever...
Meanwhile the average player who isn't a cheating multiboxer gets more and more disgusted until they QUIT. Can't compete with that crap so eventually you stop doing the things you used to enjoy in the game and can't get ahead if you don't cheat and script and multibox so what's the point of even logging in? The game becomes less and less fun all the time...
And top it off with hearing that they basically aren't going to do anything about the rampant use of cheating and well... you can guess what's going to happen. More cheating and more folk quitting in disgust.

Is it even EA anymore, or Mythic or whoever controls this side of things. I know the game is under Broadswords wings now but do they also control all the GMs and stuff like that?
I know the payment and billing side of things is still handled by EA.
If EA/Mythic still control the GM's and its up to them to ban people then I wouldn't hold my breath. I would be surprised if any of them even know what UO is.
From what I have read the boss simply said that running more than one attended client is ok. She never said or inferred that cheating of any kind is ok.

If its just the event items which people are unhappy about Multi-Boxers why give out items? If people enjoy the events for what they are why do people need an item?
Its getting a bore the amount of item generation this set of devs is responsible for. We get no bug fixes and more systems and items full of bugs.
IMHO i truly believe the devs have lost their own product they no longer have control. Years of abuse by players staff cuts budget cuts the game has escaped them.
Not to mention the failed projects.
All they are really doing is firefighting to keep the numbers viable to support the game and maybe we should be thankful for this.
The only advice to the OP is if you are not having fun walk away don't waste your time hoping for UO to change or improve.

Yea a friend of mine still can't back into UO because of that debacle. Old account, he can't get it going because he plays with bought tokens, no CC on file and a 10 year old security code. Basically was told to pound sand. Sucks but it just figuresYeah. All the people that were caught up in the FIFA EA mess were banned

For me, the answer is simple. There has never been a game like this.... I played other games, we all did. Sure a very long time ago I was a God, and that was kool. It was so very kool. But, I was the only God I knew other than Professor Woo who really played this game. Professor Woo rocked too, btw. He started a guild that helped young players, and he was an awesome person. He was actually good. By that I mean, he helped people instead of hurt them. He was an old guy and I loved him even if he never knew it.
In life, as in this game, you can either be good or bad. Both things work in either place. This guy was amazing, he gave things to people he would never know. He helped people do things that they couldn't have done without him. He didn't really fit in with the big Gods, but I loved him either way.
The Old Gods have passed away, and eventually all this will pass away as well...
I miss you Salamander, Morgana, Professor Wu, Miri, & Virulord.
Enough of that...
What other game will ever give us the depth of this original game?
We can log on and play. We can kill monsters, we can log, we can mine, we can fish, we can train pets, we can craft...

I ALWAYS multiboxing box I don't multiplex which is sending one command to a number of charters. Multiplexing is not allowed in UO.
The events with area effects makes it easy for throwers and archers to just throw in as many characters as their computer can handle and the character will auto attack when the area effect hits. One guy I heard got 7 drops (if I'm not mistaken) at one event out of 15 drops using this method.
Without the area effect it would make these types of characters much more difficult to operate.

I think at this point having weighed the Pros vs the Cons... knowing there really isn't anything else out there isn't really making me want to stay...
I now am pretty much down to logging in 3 days a week for about 2 or 3 hours a night when my friends are on. The rest of the time I seem to be alone.
Mondays are often full of meetings and such in-game... granted it's RP thankfully it's still relatively boring. Not really keeping me excited about playing anymore.
Tuesdays are GL's EM night... I used to love the EM events... but after suffering through months of harassment, years of putting up with all sorts of horrible attitude from other players, the flagrant disregard for the ToS that goes totally unanswered, the changes to the drops that pretty much have made it so I haven't really gotten a drop in at least 2 or 3 years, the monstrous changes to the EC that have made it virtually unplayable at an EM event, the fact that I can't loot anything at the EM events anymore since opening a public corpse now in the EC at one of these seems to now make my computer grind to a halt totally and lock up the client or forces my computer to reboot... makes the EM events well.... NOT fun anymore. Anymore it's an effort in frustration that ultimately leads to me logging off in a huff over it. Now I suppose I could chose not to attend them. But really that defeats the purpose of playing and RP... And if I'm not going to be joining my friends at the event then WFT again I'm playing Solo and well... I don't think it's worth the 100 bucks a month for that.
Thursday nights are Auction night.... now.... I really do love and enjoy the auction.. I like the interaction in Vent laughing, talking about old times, reminiscing about things and such... loads of fun.. but I honestly don't have the gold anymore to afford anything really at the auction... and obviously since well what I do the rest of the time and my serious inability to do anything at the EM events I don't foresee myself getting any gold in the near future, makes this less and less fun all the time.
So then I look at this and ask myself Why? Why am I still paying 100 bucks for this? *sighs* Sure I could attempt to play somewhere else where folk are "on" when I am.... but I don't care to. My friend are on GL's. I give a rats about other shards right now. I don't want to start all over. Certainly I could downsize my accounts... but to me to do that is like.. well trying to play Go Fish with only 2 cards in a deck. Not really fun. I have nearly 60 characters on GL's alone. I enjoy most all of them. I created them.... worked them up.. gave them life and a purpose... to just shut them down... I don't think I could do that. Besides..... WTF would I do with all the houses? All my stuff? It would feel like only playing 1/2 the game... No it's all or nothing for me.
So then I'm left with the question of what to do... and I think I've decided. I guess I'm going to give the DEV's one last go. I'm truly disgusted by what I heard from the LA meet and greet. I didn't like hearing that they are pretty much scrapping things that I felt were important.... I don't like hearing that the rampant and flagrant abuse of the ToS is going to continue and hell probably get even worse now... I guess I'm wanting to see some action. So I'm waiting to stay or go dependent on the "Bug Fixes" that have been talked about. And I'm going to say this... If the numerous bugs in the EC are not addressed and fixed so I can finally start enjoying the EM events again and can once again loot a freaking corpse... Then well... I think I'm throwing in the towel so to speak and pulling my 10 accounts per month. Not a threat... just saying I honestly am not seeing any "fun" anymore... Boredom and frustration are about all there is left me... and I just don't think it's worth my 100 bucks a month to hold on to the memories.
I always thought I'd be around till they shut off the lights... but I'm tired of playing alone... and I'm tired of not being able to enjoy the game anymore. I fed up with not being able to loot anything... And the constant grind of other things just doesn't appeal to me. I miss the RP, I miss the community... and I think I've held on to the dream long enough. It's time to see some action. If the bugs and lag in the EC get fixed... and the fun returns... and I don't spend most the EM event either lagged out or dead because I couldn't move or see or do anything.... then I will probably stay and continue to enjoy my Tuesdays and Thursdays..... but if it's another bunch of broken promises and BS... then I think it's time to go.
I guess I'm saying give me a reason to stay. I am not playing an MMO to play by myself. If I wanted that I'd be playing the Sims or some other single player game. I'm playing an MMO because I want community... people to interact with... events to attend and have FUN at. But the fun has long gone and so has much of the community. And of late it would seem so has much of the virtues. Compassion, Sacrifice, Honor.... most especially.

I am guilty of having to pay cash for an artifact reforging tool a few times. Even bought some Dull Copper ingots a few times off a vendor. Just so I could fill BoDs for outdated rewards I toss in the trash for points.
As long as the Freecell game is active I have no need for events. Been crashed and died that.

When you see the six month game time codes quietly fall off of Origin.....that is when you can start worrying...
I've hung out on Siege.... It's more dead that GL's. It was fun for awhile... but getting rolled in nothing but clothes outside of Tokuno just because I was there... Meh. Not so much fun. No... I get on there at 11pm CST and there is just nothing there and no one around... everybit as much as on GL's. I enjoy Siege when I'm there but again.... it's playing ALONE. Most often when the folk are on there ...... I'm at work or in bed. I know a few folk there.... I'm in a nice alliance.... just no one is ever on.
Problem is I work nights now.... great for me because I'm a night person... However kinda stinks because there is never anyone on. I tried playing on some of the Asian or European shards but sadly my ping there coupled with the MASSIVE language barrier kinda doesn't make it work and sadly a bunch of those shards are dead too. I am NOT playing on Atl... just not. So I don't know.... GL's is my home and with 10 accounts it's just not financially possible to just move. Besides... GL's is where I began it's where I'm going to end.
So you play alone on a dead shard and refuse to move to a populated one where you won't be alone..hmm ok. So you're basically saying of people don't play GL more soon you'll quit. Love that logic. FYI fixing the "dupes,bugs,exploits,hacking" will not bring people back to UO. That's just obvious. It is an ancient MMO with a niche following, Id start searching elsewhere to spend your $100 because UO won't be around for another 5-10 years. Not unless the can consolidate the tiny shards to get some people together. Every single game out there does it to prevent the eventual shutdown..it should of been done mid 2000's when population dropped drastically. Us east / us west / Asia / Europe / Aussie are the only shards there needs to be..it's time for a change, more people would play if everyone was together..and before everyone starts saying I'll quit I'll quit blah blah..shut up you are going anywhere lol..it would be up to the devs to secure and make sure housing was handled correctly and fairly
I spend more time scouting then I do playing, it becomes boring and redundant, so I log in less and less every month. Most people who Pvp have characters on all the major shards because it's the only way to get a fight.

There used to be a few hours of primetime to pvp. Now it's more like a small window. I've given up for a while and focused on becoming a trammy.
Don't PvP so that doesn't do anything for me. .. as for moving I have 10 accounts even with shard shields that's a HUGE endeavor I'm just not willing to make and move where? Atl? No. I'm not keen on starting over either if I was going to have to do that either the graphics would need to be better than they are or I may as well go play a new game. ..
What I'm saying is more and more often. ..I'm playing solo... shards with folk on when I am have horrible pings. .. or major language barriers. .. or are too crowded with folk I honestly don't ever want to play with...

Every time you post you reference the same things. Dwindling pool of old friends, loneliness and nostalgia.
In this thread you go on to say that you don't wish to go somewhere more populated to make new friends. No offense but that seems to be your real issue. You seem to just want to pine away instead of attempting to make some new friends and no amount of new content or game mechanics or cheat fixes could ever cure that imo.
Perhaps... Just change of hours making it not really possible to find folk on when I'm on anymore... don't care to move where I have bad connection speed just to find folk that are up and awake when I am... and I am missing my friends. There is only one other shard more populated that GL's anyway..... and that's Atlantic where I would rather never play.

You ofc keep your old friends and make some new ones.
Set a couple of goals for your new shard and have some fun. When I have hit a new shard in the past I have made it a goal to play there fairly regularly until I get a killer 18x18 or a keep and a serious pvp suit.
Not saying that is what you need to do but I really don't see a downside to at least giving it a serious try assuming you have the time to do both shards.

...all it has done was expand my friends list, not dwindled it. Heck even some of the new people I met have made characters and played on my home shard. 80% of the people who play today have multiple characters spread throughout the server list. Adapt to the low pop...I didn't say move all 40,000 of your characters or make a new one. Actually no we're not in "cahoots" as you put it with the Devs. We have our own RoC, which when people start continually breaking it, in a single thread, we make a decision, leave the thread up locked or simply remove it to end the dog and pony show. I made the decision to move the thread after multiple reports on it.
If you feel that something needs fixed with UO, email Broadsword at [email protected]. Stratics does, and will continue to put our RoC first, we are not a police force or moderated arm of Broadsword, and while often putting out the word on bug may be beneficial to the reader base, when a post starts causing disruption in the peace of the site we are going to take action even if it means that members of UO's Development Team that may visit here possibly won't see it.

I haven't but I was thanked once for playing Warhammer Online.
I could name a dozen or more shards I have characters built on... fact still remains... no one seems on when I am anymore. I've tried finding folk but they are few and far between. Trust me I have friends on loads of shards but again... they aren't on anymore when I am or the ping is so bad on the shards that have people on when I'm on that I couldn't really play there is I wanted to attempting to train in Haven is extremely difficult. Midnight to 6am CST WEEKDAYS. I found one guy once on Atl I felt sorry for him he wanted to do a pirate hunt and was spamming and spamming and spamming in Gen Chat but no one was responding... 3 or 4 people spamming selling something but no one responded. So I took my Greater Dragon and dusted him off at the stable and went and helped the poor fellow one day... but most times over there it's folk spamming selling crap with zero responses of anything.
I don't really care for Atlantic. I'd rather not play there. While granted I have a functional tamer there and a shard shield to it... I just don't want to be there personal reasons I guess. Seemed kinda odd to me that on such a shard as that no one was offering to help the poor fellow go hunt pirates... was his first time... We did manage to wrangle the pirate back to the Emporium. I'm hoping he found folk to join him again... Though I could tell he was a bit taken aback by the amount of work and resources it took to actually capture a pirate and to scuttle his vessel... and was somewhat ... shall we say disillusioned by the paltry reward for having spent all those resources... 10k spread amongst the crew ...... ie ..... he and I was a 5k reward and if he got the same silly light flame cannonball I did well..... that's a blow. Not sure if those things are even worth tossing in the trash but NO one actually uses a light cannon anyway. Unless you want to throw away ingots and everything... I can think of better things to waste gold on which gives far better rewards. If they actually gave something useful.... Especially at the Emporium... with all the time you spend having to sail out near Jhelom and back unlike doing them in Tokuno where it's a hop and a skip the Emporium ought to get FAR better reward. And it should be even BETTER in Fel. Just saying.

you might do better on Europa/drachenfels or an asian shard during those hours. drachenfels has a decent english speaking player base, even for them tho those are daytime / downtime hours. If you speak japanse or korean, your in luck thats those shards peak hours.
