Just to clarify I don't want them nerfed. I do want to hear a constructive idea or solution from Great DC.
I would hate to see them limit or take out SOT'S since I mostly get crappy camping ones. It's nice to get a meaty one once in a while for taking the long way to complete a quest.

Offering the idea is just one way of trying to open the doors to a possible solution since he believes it's a bad system.

Also keep in mind that the number of types of items you have to buy to fill the order keeps increasing the more quests you do, so that means you spend more time running around just getting the items for the quest (and dropping more in the good ole gold sink) the more quests you do as well. So that means the more quests you do, the longer it takes to finish them. Also, if I read the publish notes correctly and based on what I've seen so far myself, I think each character is only going to get 8 different books. So it really doesn't sound to me like there will end up being lots of books up for sale, at least initially, until people starting finishing the set of 8 with one character and then have to start using a different character if they want to get extras to sell. I'm not sure if the signs will work the same way too, i.e., no character will get duplicate signs.

I very much like the idea of getting a different "rare" reward each time. All that running is a huge grind and it's nice to know the books, at least, if you get them won't be duplicates of what you already have.

At first I was making money but as you get into the numerous line items it's clearly a gold sink, lol.

Well he's just extremely lucky or worried about someone cutting into his market. I haven't had this experience with the sots. At least any sot of real value. I hope it's true in a way though cause there's a lot of over priced stuff in UO. Sots being a prime example as they've been monopolized by a rather small segment of players. I've got soooo many garbage ones I meant to check the clean up value.

Ok, folks. Here is a very serious question: I did about 330 trips to slim the fence now.

50x with one char to get the smuggler-title
80x with another char with luck 2500
200x with another char

So, 330 trips in a row with 3 different chars. I got 90 SoTs and...

...a Voucher
...a Forged Artwork (Statuette 1)
...another Forged Artwork (Statuette 2).

So, maybe the rares drop around 1:100...

My question: The char I was using the last 200 times has now karma below 10k. He is not attacked by ambushers anymore since tour no. 110.

Is it necessary to have karma higher than 0?
Is it reasonable to do the tours with only one char, because the toon has to accomplish "tiers"
Or can you simply to the quest and bet on RNG only?
And why does one of my toons not get attacket anymore? Is it important to get attacked in order to be eligible for rares?
And has anybody got the Mempo so far? Can you post a picture?

I am confused. 330 tours was ALOT of work. And I am thinking about quitting the smuggler-job, cause I think I will never get that darn mempo ;-)

I would be so happy for some answers...

I have done the fence exclusively about 350 to 400 times. I sail mostly the longest distance. I have gotten 1 little black book, and 2 forged artworks. I no longer get ambushed either. The drop rate for the fences rare drops seems to be 1 percent or so. I have yet to see or here anyone get the mempo. I have only recieved one useable magic item, a ton of skeleton keys, quite a few pink scrolls(the majority low end ones). I have yet to be pked but have had a few close calls. The difficulty in getting the mempo is starting to get frustrating. These trade orders are nothing but a grind and Ive started to sour on doing them. Ive done them with and without (1725 luck). Never gotten a drop with luck on.

I FEEL EXACTLY THE SAME!!! IT IS EXACTLY MY SITUATION!!! I wrote to Mesanna and asked her. I am really curious what she will answer ;-)

I would say, I didnt get ANY Drops since the char dropped below 0 Karma. I only got drops, when the char had positive karma. And I did not get any drops since they stopped ambushing me... Maybe we all have to use several chars: Get them up to 50 and then change them, hehehe

By the way: I think they should add another title for people that did 200+ Slim-the-Fence-Quests... Tier 50 is just too low... Lets make those 200+ people "Smuggler-King" or somethig... As this mempo apparently does not exist, it would be nice to get another reward for doing such a stupid work...

It seems reasonable to assume that the rare drop rate for the fence is about 1 percent. Thing is, I have not seen or heard of anyone getting the mempo. I wonder if the mempo drop is much less than 1 percent or if it is bugged. Ive heard of a couple people having the other rare drops but not a single mempo. Even if the mempo is a 1 percent drop rate, one could concievably do 100s if not 1000s of orders and just get real unlucky and keep getting the other rare drops.

I would say, I didnt get ANY Drops since the char dropped below 0 Karma. I only got drops, when the char had positive karma. And I did not get any drops since they stopped ambushing me... Maybe we all have to use several chars: Get them up to 50 and then change them, hehehe

All of my trade deals were turned in with negative karma. All deals transported via ship.
I received one rare (drink ticket) out of 200 attempts.
A luck suit (2000ish luck) seems to increase the probability of sot's, in my experience. I had nearly 1 in 3 with luck vs. 1 in 8ish without.

I only do town to town quests and usually only the overland, not sailing except to Skara since it's very short boat hop. I've done about 200 and have gotten 5 signs and 5 books. I'm running them with my Dread Lady and have 0 luck on her.

I wasn't. I got a request for Greater heals, and the ones I had at home weren't acceptable items, so I canceled it with no penalty at all. BTW, I was IMMEDIATLY able to accept another quest!

Got a Mages Guild sign! Made me very happy! It was from Trinsic to Vesper and I fought more mobs than usual. Like 4 or 5. It was on my second 2 item order. Hope this helps figure out any system. But it all seems rather random. I seem to get more SOTs using moongates, going overland it seems I got a lot more hides, ingots, and stuff than SOTs.

Hm, I see the guild signs are selling for 5M to 50 M on Atlantic. I can't see any pattern to the low and high prices (typical Atlantic). Mine is Armourer's Guild, from overland tram run with low luck.

50 Mil = greedy insane bastards worthy of kicking butts
5 Mil = realistic. These guild signs are quite common.

Slims Voucher goes for 2-5 Mil, as it seems to be comparatively common, too.

i know 15 is nothing...50 will be nearly nothing was asking if its possible to get a sign in tram...town to town using gates too for the islands ..[im guessing tram and felluca makes no differnce anyway- as most lower poplation shards felluca is safe as in ya houses].....if its not possible then i shant bother any more, thus wasting my time for a few crappy sots....just asking

Just a little info..I always use a boat for the islands..Have done loads of quests...My tally so far is 5 books and 6 trade signs so far..I always fight the land based creature and run from the sea creatures...It is true the books are not duplicated,although the signs are as I have 2 tinker ones.Good Luck guys.

Now, try to get 5 rare drops from Slim? NEVAH!

I've gotten 4 signs doing exactly that. Except I'm somewhere in the hundreds of quests, lol. Oh and zero luck or very minimal.

Still get SOTs though. I didn't mind using moongates cause I wanted to get up to the 5 line quests. But it doesn't seem to make much difference. Except it costs a lot more, lol.

I've up to Broker doing all mine in Tram, killing everything including sea monsters and I've gotten one book, 5 signs and 31 SoT's. To add to your list of signs, Merchant Guild, Miner's Guild and Fighter's Guild. I accept every quest and just delivering to each city with no trips to the fence. It's getting a bit tedious but I do like those signs!
