New MyUO is ridiculous

I am incredibly disappointed in the new MyUO search engine that shows you ABSOLUTELY everything in regards to the character you look up.

People work very hard making templates that are highly effective in certain situations and usually keep it between a select few that are highly trusted. This is in regards to both PVP and PVM. The fact I can now go on there and look at anyone's toon and see exactly what they are running skill and stat wise is just plain stupid. It takes away from the art of building templates. Now all someone has to do is search to see what they are doing and mimic it. This needs to be addressed because it is taking away from the playerbase whom actually invest time and energy into putting templates together.

I don't see why that's a big deal to be honest....whenever someone makes a new template it seems to become public knowledge within a month anyways.

They aren't upset about the paperdoll, they don't like that you can see people's specefic skills, stats and templates.

I doubt it. More likely they'll cannibalize traffic from one of the top third party UO sites.

I agree, I think that it could very likely work. My initial gut reaction was like Nabin's, though.

Dude, get real. They are working on bringing back what we used to have every day before. I give them props for that. In the old search engine you could see your guildies stats and skills. So what if you can see all now? Any experienced player can tell what your skills are by looking at your armor and weapons. Furthermore, it's in Beta. Wait till you see the final product before flaming.

I don't understand the need to show skills/stats, especially where it concerns PvP. Part of that attraction is in NOT knowing exactly what you're dealing with in any given fight....

But, with MyUO, for instance, you can see if your opponent has, oh say - Magic Resist - and adjust your attack accordingly... Or see that you're only carrying 20 Int... MyUO is fine for some things, but showing all of your skills & stats is crazy IMO....

I would have thought that they would have used something like my.uo.com, funny enough, but search probably makes more sense. With that said I think the myUO search is awesome and I'm looking forward to seeing it expanded. Maybe an option to toggle visibility for certain information for specific characters like skills and stats.

Now I would not object if it showed the top three skills like old times, but this is far superior to nothing which is what we've had for a few years.

Basic information in games is usually considered name, guild, skills/stats, and what gear the character is wearing. As Promathia said, there are many games that let you see another person's character info just by clicking them.

If you don't PvP then this doesn't matter, I'm sure Corgul could care less what your camping is. If you PvP then it puts everyone on the same level and you win because of how you use your evenly matched skills and not becaiuse you overpower your opponent.

You can get a good idea regarding SOME of an opponent's skills by observing what you can of their armor and weapon, but certainly not ALL of them.
As to your second point regarding this being in Beta, the fact that they released it for us to preview - suggests that they are open to constructive criticism - which is what we're offering here... Right?

That's the way I feel about it, i.e., it's fair if everyone has access to every character's information. And we also don't know how frequently the information is updated anyway, so someone who uses soulstones frequently to swap out skills could easily be running a template that is very different from what the website shows.

Think about it like this, people like me for example who are trying to get into pvp could use that info. That info could provide you with more people to fight in future? You know , fair fights and stuff. Or do you guys not want that.

Yeah, it was something like that. However, I seem to recall that the faction information/statistics you could look up (e.g., top character on the shard by kill points, top guild on the shard by kill points, top characters and guilds in each faction by kill points) didn't update until maybe 4 or 5 hours after all the servers had finished the nightly maintenance cycle, so around noon or 1 pm Eastern Time each day. And I think that was also when, if it was working correctly, you'd notice your faction rank might change if someone had a big day of getting kill points the day before or a big chunk of yours decayed.

No one is going to put a period between the words Search and Uo by accident and arrive at the myuo search site.

Many people are going to leave out the period between the words Search and UO and end up at the search uo site.

Its in beta there should be no problem changing the URL that is what Beta is for.

Yes, I want fair fights... But part of what makes a fight "fair" is NOT knowing what your opponent is capable of... It's the already good PvP'rs who gain an advantage here, since it allows them to adjust their attack to your weakest defense with greater ease than someone who is new to PvP.

I didn't say carry. You could figure out (at least some of) the skills of a character using MyUO. There were flags with skills that gave a title- that title referred to a range.

Nephilim..... any PvP'er with half a brain can easily figure out what template someone else is using. It's not hard so don't pretend it is. Also don't forget that a unique template is often based on unique gear. So even if my uo means your average zero PvPer with a 3rd grade IQ can see your template
... well they still need the gear.
