Farming Booster pack with new foods and recipes and things to grow and cook

I wonder if this has anything to do with coco butter?

An expansion or pack like this isn't exactly my playstyle, but maybe if there were other things included...plant resources that added to the spectrum of pigment colors, some form of husbandry? Not sure, but something for tamers along those lines. That might be interesting.

Pet foods, more pet craftables, fixing some of the weird pets we have now... updated gumps for both plant growers and tamers would be very welcome.

Viquire you have some good ideas there. I'd buy that booster pack if some of your ideas are in there. Add the ability to craft your own raised garden beds. They may differ in the way that they require no attendance at all - but it's ok if they require potions. Make them so that you can insert like 1000 potions at a time or more so you don't need to think about it for a year.
Let us grow even more resources through plants.
I also imagine a new pet which is actually a plant that was raised in a pot or in a garden bed.
[a strong pet much like a Greater Dragon! Don't add even more chicken lizard type pets that can't kill a grizzly in the wild, please]

DON'T MAKE IT TEDIOUS. Make it fun! Then I'll surely buy several keys.

One idea that we really got excited about was offering farming plots in various sizes. You'd have a small plot to customize like a normal house where you could put your farm house, barn, windmill, etc and the rest would be farm land that you could grow a variety of crops on. Lot of room for us to grow with this concept :p

Just looked in Origin store, can't find no farming plots... My best friend here (a.k.a. CC a.k.a. credit card) needs some relief. I'd be happy to help a friend in need.

Would an add-on like this be coming before things like the high res artwork, reworked uo.com, MyUO, new vet rewards, pet revamp, anniversary party etc etc or would you do it after?

I'd much rather see something like poker added into UO. Gamble your gold with other players. There is already a casino so it would be such a cool addition. 8 players per table, tournaments, cash tables.

I could grow all my crops and stuff then head of to the casino after work to gamble it all away!

Okay, I am ALL IN on this one, but if you feed it regularly it MUST acquire the ability to say "Feed me, (char name)!" and have a chance to "go wild" as it develops by eating ones guildmates, friends, lovers, and eventually the owner themselves. :D

I've never really had a desire to be a farmer in UO. But maybe that's just me. To me the idea of a self servicing plant bed was the best thing since sliced white bread.
Find me a way to be a Mystic Llama Herder. That would be exciting.

Why do you guys suggest and buy stuff for a game you pay a monthly subscription for that doesn't have regular content updates? I'll never understand.

Lol Kyronix, your my favorite Dev by far, but i think that comment basically sums up just about all the reasons players finally get fed up and leave. you have to admit, theres a (now small because most left over the past years) portion of the playerbase who sees boosters, dyes, deco, gifts, plants, bascially anything you can do with no keyboard and not die as total trash and so far from the original idea of UO that yes, Lord British would turn over in his grave! :)
I think it's the nature of the game. People are going to play UO the way they want to play UO, and are going to enjoy the activities they are going to enjoy. One of the most enjoyable features of the game is building a virtual collection to display in your virtual home. So fundamental was that concept that it spawned Lord British's Ultimate Collector Facebook game, that was actually a total blast. I had a sweet meteorite collection, and my virtual animation cel collection mimic'd the one I have in real life. Of course that's not for everyone, and people will come and go. The best we can do is try and provide a little something for everyone whenever we can. :D

So, Kry, are you saying that the farming aspect would be similar to the aquariums? Regular maintenance brings oddities and rares? Or are we talking about a system by and large to produce more consumables?

Hate to say this, but how about you "finish" the systems that still aren't finished and squash a few hundred bugs before starting on something new. (there are plenty in the bug forum that are relatively simple fixes)

Then, when you do start work on a new system, you should to talk to the players first before you paint yourselves into a corner with ideas people are going to rail against later. (Refinements) However, you must talk to more than the sycophantic pom-pom wavers, and avoid filling your focus groups with Stratics staff.

Once you start on such a new system, you need to ensure that you don't try to over think it by making it needlessly complex, redundant and tedious. (I'm looking at you, High Seas crafting) If you add new items, especially resourses or consumables of any kind, they MUST be stackable from the start. If you add artifact-like loot of any kind, make sure the stats are something a player will actually desire, not immediately drop in a bin. (Ararat artifacts) If you add easter eggs, leave enough clues that people can find them, or even know they exist in the first place. (golden toolkit) If you add a quest, allow us to keep the pieces of said quest should we choose to do so as deco.

Lastly, if you're going to give us something we've been wanting for years, don't do it in gift form. This only makes it a headache for those that weren't here at the time to acquire after the fact (ie mailboxes), add things as craftables. (this is a major failing of the King's Collection, over half the new items aren't even craftable) Also, don't later add it to the clean up system and call it good. Craftable is always the better choice.

but ill grow it for him if they give us the seeds.
ya have to feed the underbelly of our UO community when ya feed the good people.
cant just feed the good people.

I appreciate your comments, and while I don't agree with everything you've mentioned I think you bring up some good points that we need to do a better job of keeping in mind with future content.

That being said we really are just having a conversation and talking out loud about what could be, something you point out you'd like to see more of. Our immediate future is pretty much already decided and this isn't something likely to happen anytime soon. C'mon now Dot, I've heard you've got the greenest thumb in Britannia. :D

I appriciate it when ya'll take the time to throw ideas around. I imagine it's tough as we're an excitable bunch and can latch onto ideas that might not ever see the light of day.
Regarding what Dot said; I'd also like to see some love given to finishing and making little additions/improvements/fixes to existing systems.

Can't stay awake without coffee... can't... stay.... awa...
While I don't know how interested I would be in such a booster, I DO think its a good idea. I've thought the plant system could use an update/expansion into farming for ages.

I would also really like it if you could grow all of the plants you currently can't obtain, like different trees, and all of the rubble plants. Especially the rubble plants. A one time even years and years ago being the only way to obtain like a DOZEN different plants, most of which being ferns (leaving normal players with just ONE fern), is just dumb IMO.

Just poking fun at what we have become. We love bath tubs, towels, tea, coffee and yet game areas haven't been updated in 10 years
You do realize that LB is currently designing a game with many of the same sorts of personalized decorative features right? People like to customize their in game spaces, heck that's the whole reason some people play, and there's nothing wrong with dev time going toward working on it.

I have seen a good number of "farms" and "gardens" in people's customized homes. Giving them the option to actually make them functional seems like a fine idea to me.

Personally at this point I think new content should be priority one for a while. There has been a SERIOUS content drought over the past year.

Everything else I agree with wholeheartedly. Cutting out pointless complexity should be something they really need to focus on, as many of the recent additions have been shall we say... inelegant, to the point of absurdity.
Also listening to players, and not just people who say "this is awesome!" Like the people who were constantly pointing out the issues with refinement system for example, they were quite clear and constructive about the system and how if it went in as it was that it would be neigh unusable, but they put it in anyway, and now hardly anyone uses it.

And as always craftable... ALWAYS a better choice than a one time gift.

I understand your point. To me it seems more interesting to think long term, build an expansion and attract new players with it. I have bought all the expansions but zero booster packs.

My stance on the farming booster pack idea: nay!

The title of this thread was copied and pasted from what an official said. I think it was @Mesanna. I copied it from another thread here in UHall.

Adding not only farming but also ranching would be awesome. I like that idea. Don't forget to give us 10 times as many stable slots while you're at it.

While I do understand the sentiment about long lasting pet friends, I'd also like to see some glass cannon like pets. Pets about as strong as a Greater Dragon possibly, pets that come fully trained from your farm or ranch. But they die after one month. Or one day. Or 10 hours or something. Or maybe they can kill and eat 100 monsters before they die. Or they do damage up to 250k hit points before they die, no matter how many monsters. Getting 1% weaker with every 2500 hit points dealt in damage.
Just an idea. Don't make it too complex to obtain such a pet, but do keep it within the scheme of 'craftsmanship'. No gift-pets like Dread War Horses that were only available a short time.
Those glass cannon pets could wield 'slayer' powers, i.e. doubled damage against the Undead, weak against the opposing faction.

There are still 1000 things I would like to see in UO. Can't wait to see them all.

If that's what's needed to get new content and maybe new players... it's ok for me, I'll buy some booster packs if it helps. I was a bit disappointed with Gothic and the other one, though.

Okay last night I was happy to be funning around. And, I just got back. I absolutely refuse to delve deeply into things I have found upsetting in the past. But Dot makes a LOT of good and very strong points if you are looking at the long history of UO, and using that to lay down a bright path for the future.

I love thinking out loud, but there is a ton of stuff I am more interested in seeing fixed or revamped that we have in game than the possibility of a farming expansion. I understand the concern about a dearth of new content, and maybe it is time to think about what yearly content additions might look like in order to make sense moving toward a 20th anniversary. That, IMHO should be a really, really big deal. But it would be great to have the house in order going into that big push. And please dear LORD, let it NOT be another new client.

I always thought farming should have been a UO skill. I mean it is kind of a big deal for the growth of civilizations in general. Another plant resource I hoped for was something like the green thorn, but when you pushed it into the ground, up would pop plant like creatures, like the reaper, corpser, or whipping vine. These would target nearby creatures and do battle with them. I always imagined planting them at champ spawns or the void pool.
