Sad... IDOC

Was there a rose in the IDOC? I think I know the player whose memorial it was. I had sold her a rose for her dad awhile back, I don't know if I still have her PM contact. If there was a whispering rose there, she'd probably really appreciate the chance to buy it.

Pretty cool how people can create such touching things in this game to honor/remember RL friends and family along with in-game Friends/Family.

Sad to see it go, but I would assume the family has been able to move on so letting it drop is probably a good sign, ya know?

I went back through my PMs and found the contact. http://stratics.com/community/members/aquarius.165252/

She had a memorial for her dad on Atlantic and Chessie. The rose she bought from me was "A whispering rose from a funeral spray" for the memorial of her dad. I don't know which house had it.

Anyways, if it was there perhaps someone will try to get a hold of her.

or....... we can just leave it alone and let them get on with their lives instead of ringing her up and picking away at scabs.

With the housing timer being wonky lately... perhaps it was not an unintentional loss and a mistimed payment. It doesn't hurt anything that if someone got that rose or something else personal... to take the time to PM her. If she has moved on, she won't be here.

the housing timer is no longer wonky.
and even when it was wonky it was only the decay state that was wonky by a couple days.
i doubt that anyone who is serious about keeping their houses around would even wait till the decay state to turn the account back on.
your talking the difference between 95 days and 97 days - where most people who jump account make sure to get their account back on before the 90 days is up so their houses dont even enter the decay state.

irregardless im sure the family would ask around if and when they ever came back.

You're dead wrong Poo. I always refresh my house on schedule and refreshed them at fairly. I've done it for years. The housing time almost screwed up some stuff for me in a major way.

im not 'wrong'
im just not a idiot.
i have 2 account that i 'hop' along to hold houses. i re-up them on day 90 every time, i never let them enter decay.
but then i actually wanna keep them so that's why i do that.
for anyone who waits till the very last moment to re-up theirs.... well they are kinda playing with fire, and we all know what happens when you play with fire, no?

lets do the math on this shall we.
so lets say you re-up your account on every 95 days instead of 90.
so your saving yourself 5 days every 90.
so over the course of a year you save yourself 20 days, so 2/3 of a month, so 2/3 a payment, so that would be like $9 a year in savings.
so i have to ask, is saving $9 a year worth letting your house enter decay 4 times a year?
to me i prefer to know my houses wont even enter decay, thats worth $9 to me.

I do that with at least 10 accounts so saving $90 a year? Yes. Also, I'm not sure you are correct in that it goes into decay on day 90. I'll verify this with my current account that will be going inactive but it always seemed to me that the house fell on day 90.

By the way, you said "I doubt anyone who is serious about keeping their houses..." Yeah, you were dead wrong. I'm serious about refreshing my houses and haven't lost a house yet with my house tracker database in place.

I understand you guys do the house "hop" thing to save money, but i've always thought it's a bit...dishonest, considering it's basically stealing money from UO.

Not judging anyone, just an observation.

You guys should either keep those accounts open all 12 months or give up the houses
yes because that open plot on Lake Austin is gonna make or break the game.

the decay does not start until the 90 day timer is up.
so day 91 your house will start to decay.

EA has specifically said it's fine when folks like you and Aran have complained about it. The specific instance they said this was Jeremy back during the San Diego meetup, one of the two UO meetups I was able to attend.

Consider this, it's 4 months of extra money EA gets whereas I wouldn't bother with a 12 month subscription. I'd just keep one or two houses and live all my other characters out of the bank. My personal opinion, this is one of those silly judgements people cling to which if it were implemented would instead rob UO of money and hasten the end of the game. Just my opinion though.

I have ten accounts that I pay for. I pay for seven of them every month, so I'm paying the maximum possible cost for those. The other three I pay for every 90 days. The houses held by those three accounts include a castle on Balhae; a custom house in Malas on Great Lakes; and a custom house in Fel on Yamato. I had no problem at all placing any of those houses because all of those shards have empty plots in abundance, especially Balhae! (At least half of Luna on Balhae is completely devoid of even bare foundation plots and placing a keep or castle is easy as cake.)

I used to feel the same as you do about the 90 days off-30 days on routine. But at this point, the way I look at it is that I'm actually USING all three of these houses (plus the other ones) and I'm actively playing on each of those shards darn near every day. I certainly didn't take up spaces that someone else who never lets their subscription lapse would have or could have used and yeah, just maybe I help give the appearance to a returning or new player or a disillusioned veteran player that someone's actually around still, especially when they see the custom houses that aren't down to just bare plots.

And if you wonder why I pay for seven of the subs on a monthly basis, it's basically because I know how close I am to just quitting altogether. I've learned the hard way that when I get to the point that I'm ready to just throw in the towel, it's easier to just turn everything off for a few weeks or a month or two and then come back and be ready to pick up again where I left off. In my case, it's a lot less drastic solution than knowing that a six month renewal is creeping up on me and debating and debating whether or not to do it or just pack everything up and drop houses or just walk away and lose a lot of stuff and then probably never come back at all.

It costs me a little bit more to have that kind of flexibility, but I figure it's worth it because I'm really not ready yet to walk away from UO forever. I am certainly not very happy at all with how things are going at this point with UO overall, but I think I still have just enough hope that some major things are going to get turned around or at least show some signs of improvement to maybe make it to the end of the year at least. Beyond that I really don't know.

Edited to add: Did a little math and it looks like my way of handing my 10 accounts actually means I'm paying slightly more to EA than if I left all 10 accounts open all the time and paid for 6-month subscriptions for all of them.

(7*12*12.99) + (3*3*12.99) = 1208.07
10*2*59.99 = 1199.8

Or I could do (7*2*59.99) + (3*3*12.99) = 956.77, but then I'd constantly be facing the question of renewing accounts for six-months at a shot and probably saying it isn't worth it and shutting down most or all of them at some point. Easier to put off a decision with such finality by instead paying small monthly amounts and sticking around "just a little bit longer."

For clarity sake her father's passing was years ago. Aquarius and KingHen have more or less left UO.

**I have a selfish hope that they return some day soon, good peeps.
