Heritage Tokens

Hello all

In recent times I have been taking a lot greater advantage of Transfer tokens, both my own and those of generous players.

A a result , my supply of Heritage tokens has gone from 'more than enough' to 'OMG this is positively ridiculous - what am going to do with all these tokens' from tokens imported from characters I have on other Shards.

So my query is, how hard would it be for the Developers/Programers to add additional rewards to the tokens, and if possible - what additional 'Heritage' type items would be on your wish list?

Thank you

Olive Oyle

I think they are fine as they are for what they give.

Now if you requested for them to be a Turn In item since you have a ton of them now that might be an interesting and ok request.

While tune in points are fine, reciently returning players are finding things they need are not anywhere to be found due to the turn in....
Soul stones which were lost usualy sat at a players "Grave Yard" for repatriation to their owners. Now are being dumped in for points.
Heritage tokens sell well... I use them up like crazy... the carpets, ladders, and all come in very handy... as to the deco.

This is VERY unfortunate. Time back, when players who recovered these Soulstones at IDOCs where asking for something be given to them in exchange for them, I suggested not to destroy these Soulstones with whatever turn in system was thought up, but to actually store them some place and make them available to returning players who would have certainly appreciated this kindness and the susprise to find again their hard worked for skills.

Unfortunately, it was instead decided for a simple turn in for points and so bye bye to those Soulstones which have been turned in for points....

I and a few others hold on to the stones on the shards we have found them and have had a few returning players happy we did.
I know on Europa and a few other shards are "Grave Yards" where a stone can be seen and tested for ownership and a bulitinboard is there for the notification that one has found theirs in the lot...
I wonder if the code on the stone for account ownership could help on this....
A turn in of a stone for points would enter the account info in and credit the account apon the next log in for the full stones. Frags are a bit tricky...

I guess it would help, but they should have done it already before starting the turn in for points..... as things are now, the more time goes by, the more soulstones are destroyed for good because of players turning them in for points....

If the player didn't want to lose soulstones (or anything else), then the player should have put them in the bank, or kept paying for the account. Very simple.

When soulstones were not worth points, many junked those found at IDOCs anyway or let them decay.

Well maybe those players who lost soulstones had some unexpected circumstances where they stopped paying for their account and intended to return. Sudden life issues and they forget to place the stones in their bank or leave it in their house planning on renewing their account before the collapse but something comes up.

If soulstones are account bound, would be nice if they added something like the pet summoning ball but for soulstones. On use would transport all your account linked soulstones to your bank. They are part of your "soul" after all, should be able to do a little soul searching/linking. :p

Then that's just too bad, isn't it? And why are you placing singular significance on a soulstone when there are also houses and items that will disappear after 90 days? EA does not base its business model on being a charity, and such cases of "But I meant to return" are clearly so rare that the Devs are not going to spend time on this. Pets auto-stabled, ship lighthouses -- now those, for active players, were worth their time to implement. But why should they spend any time to "save soulstones" when virtually all "lost" ones belong to players who won't return?

You can create your own graveyard as you desire. As for me, they go in the trash. I would have let them decay at IDOCs anyway.

God forbid the devs do something nice for their players other than for pure profit. Clearly no other successful gaming company takes the time to implement "useless" features that don't make money but please the potential of returning/current playerbase. Oh wait, this is a dying game. They should only focus on things to pump out more profit before it dies off because clearly this game is no longer appealing to the new consumer base.

"Nice" does not pay the light bills. UO is not a charity. What games do you know of that will save items outside player-based inventory (carried on the character or some sort of bank box)? I know of none.

How many people do you think would benefit from this? You yourself say it's a dying game, so on what should Developers spend their time? There are far more important things for them to work on than an item rescue program for an exceedingly small group.

Want to ensure your soulstones are safe in case your account lapses? Then keep them in the bank. It's no different than any other item in a house.

On my return after missing a refresh date on my keep. By a few days due to real life. I was in hopes i would come back to find my stones but i didn't.

Super sucky .. Its the one thing i over looked and did not bank when i winterized my account.

11 stones with 120's. :) and other misc finished skills. 20+ frags etc. All max skills.

Gone. But hell do i wish they would have credited my account with some tokens.. Course. But if they would have... They would not have made 40.00 on my return. :)

Would it be nice... Sure. Would it make since for a business model? Nah

Unfortunately, the way Soulstones work make it quite annoying to have them in a bank box....
Since only the character owning that bank box can access it, this means that for every skill transfer among characters of an account one has to get to bank, retrieve soulstone, bring it home, transfer skills and then bring it back to bank.... Having them stable at home in a secure, reduces a lot of that annoyance...

Yes, it is not the most convenient, but since when is ensured security going to be convenient? If you're going to let an account lapse, there are certain risks implicitly undertaken. Is it worth saving $10 a month to find you forgot the IDOC date?

As I've mentioned in the past, in case something should happen to me, I've entrusted a friend with all my logins. Most of my rarest items are in the bank, but a few are on display, and they can be salvaged rather than decay or be found by a stranger.

I also agree that it makes no sense to invest developer resources into such task for the few, who might come back.
I would have liked to see a way to wash the stones, so that a different account can use them, but that would have reduced potential token sales ...
Other than that: If you go offline for some time, keep the stones in bank or on character, if you value them. As well as all the other stuff you want to protect from the IDOC vultures ;)

The time the devs used to make soulstones a turn-in item was the waste IMO. They could have spent less time adding a line of text into the soulstone interface to warn players to bank their stones after use. That would have been a positive change. What we got instead is another reward for the players who least deserve it. I'm just glad that when code lets us down there's always karma ;)

Of course if you're benefiting from IDOC stone points, you're going to blame the player, it makes you feel better when you're getting the benefit of these points if you can convince yourself that they were at fault. You're doing a service cleaning up litter! The account management system is as useless as a chocolate fire-guard, but it's always easier on the conscience to blame the house owner. And to presume that they didn't plan to return so they won't miss their stuff.

Many players have the belief (wrongly) that as long as they start a subscription and leave it running, their house storage won't decay. Some of us have owned and kept houses for many years without any evidence to the contrary, I know that was the case with my accounts until more recently. So naturally enough, if players are using soulstones regularly, it's not uncommon for stones to be left in a house along with other valuables. I suspect most players store stones in their houses. I have seen few IDOC that didn't contain a soulstone.

Recently both our cards were declined when they were supposed to be billed the next time. I figured it was smarter to live out of bank boxes after that. I've had trouble with account management before, but it made sense to just sort out my stuff and stop using houses till things settled down.

If the devs spend time on anything this year, account management reliability would get my vote instead of lining IDOCer pockets. That site is a liability for the whole game :(

The soulstones would have decayed or been junked anyway. I'm not going to use time or lockdowns in a nearly 100% futile effort for players who should have kept paying for their accounts if they didn't want to lose their stuff.

I have never met anyone who believed that, and someone who does is just out of luck, isn't he.

Nobody is asking you to do anything.

I can understand why players wouldn't tell you what's in their homes. But you wouldn't be looting soulstones if everyone locked them in the bank. Before there's loot for the IDOCer, someone has to decide to store it in that home.

Non sequitur. I never said anyone was.

This is also a non sequitur. Look again at what I put in bold: "who should have kept paying for their accounts if they didn't want to lose their stuff." And you can't cite a single player who thought a house would stay up forever, hmm?

It's really exceedingly simple. Why are you still so concerned about players not losing soulstones, when you also say that the game is "just pixels"? If the soulstones were really that important, then a player would have kept the account up. I would again try to explain to you the concept of the game losing importance to someone who's let an account lapse, not that there's zero importance but that it's become less important than other things, but I still don't think you'd get it. If someone got busy in real life, the game must not have been that important. If someone has medical problems to attend to, the game becomes less of a priority.

If you're really that gung-ho about saving soulstones, then you are perfectly free to do that yourself. The rest of us are going to turn in points for things that clearly the Devs felt were taking up space, and 99% of the time belonged to players who won't return. What's it to you if a soulstone is left to decay or is turned in? Where's your grandiose proposal this time of a soulstone depository?

It's because of whining like yours that we had a little soulstone bonfire party once they were worth points.

No need to cite anything, I didn't claim forever or even close to it.

Oh?

Pets can be lost, they go wild, there are stable bugs, It happens. UO is a game and those items are just pixels. If the item is too precious for you to risk losing it, stable the pet or bank the item. But if you really are going to go ape at the mere thought of losing pixels, you need to get into RL more. Because a few similar losses in the RL world really put those pixels in perspective.

this was about transfer tokens, as a MOD you should know better, stay on topic.

they could easily be used for turn in points, and they are transfer token NOT heratige tokens :)
