So it seems like we will have a "Return to Britannia" once again in late May, as I recall.

I am wondering what are your past experiences with this event and what can we expect from it in regards to returning players.

Did it really bring back players or not really? Did the 30 days for free make the difference?

You tell me.

It's like the holidays. It will bring some people to visit who used to live here, for results both good and ill.

It all depend, if we get the loot update before and it become easier to activate your old accounts. Also, It's important they feel, they are a part of the community and not just running around on their own.

I think it all depends on how well they get the word out to old players. Word of mouth goes a long way, but some people that might want to re-activate during a RtB might have totally dis-associated themselves from the game and Stratics and will have no way of knowing that a RtB is eminent.

I hope it will bring some people back, so many things have changed it's like a whole new world..*Breaks into song*

And maybe if they watch the State of UO Address it will bring even more people back, that was an awesome idea, always nice to hear from our team, it helps a lot!

They should fire out an email to everyone IN ADVANCE so people can start to battle with account management if they need to get an old account sorted.

Nothing worse than finding out there is an RTB then you miss half of it trying to recover an old account.

However, without something going on IN GAME as a draw, most people will get bored quick and not stick around. There should be a small global event to excite people.

I would come back if I could get my account back. I played from alpha testing up til about 2004. I quit playing in college, and my account was hijacked. I have tried to get it back, but where the account information has changed... well they cannot verify me. I would gladly fax in my drivers and other information about me.

Like usual they will give out some kind of reward and very few will actually come back if they are not already here, but ALOT with MANY inactive account will use the free time to turn on some just for the goofy reward. But if they get 1 actual closed player for every 100 already active they win ??

Personally I would delay the RTB until after the V/V system is in and running as intended. The biggest mass exodus of players in the last two years was the faction fiasco. I doubt there is a big block of players eager to come back and test out the new vendor search... And would keep accounts open because of it. However, if the pvp system is good and pvpers were allowed to come back and give it a try, we might actually be able to bring them back to paying accounts.

I'm still paying for two accounts yet - I just don't log-in any more. RtB could probably bring me back into game if there's a player influx. (I keep meaning to attend EA&E Auction at the least)

Doing my solo adventure runs and not seeing anyone in Dungeons across the realms is, for me, the most depressing UO thing ever still. It's been many years since I had to "wait my turn" for a particular Dungeon spawn; having a brief chat in the mean time, or teaming up together

I found out my account is NOT active and was last used with a Germany Credit card. they will NOT reopen it for me.

Try date of birth... alot of times when people get ahold of another person account that can get overlooked. That is how I got my original account back.

They need to fix the dead shard problem. A lot of the folks I know (myself included) who lapsed did so because of being on dead shards, and the cost and housing considerations prevented them from a transfer.

Do you still have the original CD case with the account creation code on it? I still have my UO:R disc and case [damn so many years ago...] Anyway, those CD codes will get you your account back all the time.

Most returning people are going to be lost, poor and homeless and not had their game updated to the latest and greatest.

Perhaps they could set up a series of teleporters to "areas behind protected barriers in" places of the world that would allow them to see many new things. Or have a place set up like the Magencia Zoo to show the new creatures, or a series of NPC's telling stories of new things that they may not be able to visit on their limited funds or items to get them interested enough to stay. Keep track of the accounts that are logging in to see what version they are currently at and use that to their marketing advantage. Maybe even go as far as providing a runebook that can not be removed from their backpack with various runes to newly added locations or features that has a lifespan of the RTB time only.

Anything to keep them interested and not feel lost. Keep in mind there will be less of us to be cheerleaders to convince them to stay!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not the only one who's happy to imbue starter suits for any new/returned players who asks, not the grandest, but likely a killer suit compared to when they quit. All 70s with 100% LRC and stat boosters isn't hard to make. Maybe RTB announcements should include a suggestion that players ask for help: "Luna bank is usually the main hangout on any shard. Also, get in general chat and introduce yourself. Don't be shy! Equipment considered 'elite' before can be made for you by helpful players, who will be glad to see others returning to the game."

I should say...

A few days ago when I was buying some ingots to train my Blacksmith I had a lucky event happen to me. The seller, after realizing I just returned and didn't have so much, gave me a VERY generous amount of money to help me start up again. He had also returned recently, but still had a lot from his days before.

I am A returning player. As Imbuing was coming in I was going out, due to RL concerns.
I am happy to be back and look forward to a long career as an old school crafter. Getting to know my customers along the way.

That said, As a new returning player I enjoy the words. "How can I help you". Allowing you to help, and allowing me to stay within my role (play style).

On returning to UO, I visited several different shards before coming to rest here in Siege Perilous.
Nothing makes me more Uncomfortable than someone who targets me as a new player and then proceeds to give, give and give.

I say this in Love and appreciation. It is great to have people around willing to help new players rather than PK newbie,s. As some spineless cowards choose to do.

If I may suggest, Ask the question, How may I help you? Allowing the other player to tell there story.
You, with your experience can then see what there needs are. Suggest to them how you can help them. Keeping in mind they may be suffering from information overload.

Help them in a way that sends them away motivated, not overwhelmed. Give them a way to contact you in the future. Make a new friend.

This comes from the perspective of a retuning player. I appreciate those who have welcomed me to Siege Perilous. They are the reason I stayed here.
