Governor Election Vote Griefing

The griefing has continued in GL Britain. This afternoon there were multiple "throwaway" characters (as they called themselves) named Dot Warner standing at the Britain bank. These "throwaways" began making derogatory statements in gen chat about "coming out of the closet" and "sensations in their pants" in an effort to defame the current Governor, Dot Warner. One of these "throwaways" even stated: "Get off your high horse and stop buying votes or I would not have done this."

To me, that statement is a clear admission of intentional griefing. Dot Warner, the current governor, did not purchase, or have anyone else purchase on her behalf, votes in the last election. And if even she had (I personal find this practice shady, but know it is the way of politics and take no issue with Dot's last opponent doing this last election), that is no excuse for griefing.

The issue with the current GL Britain election has nothing to do with the use of the name Dot Warner (I mean, hello, my character's name is Alice - not exactly one of a kind - and there are others of the same name on the shard). The issue is that someone had to INTENTIONALLY create a new character with the same name AND a new guild that is almost IDENTICAL in name (City-State of Britain (actual governor's guild) vs. City-State of Britannia (imposter's guild)). The chances of someone accidentally creating a combination of character name and guild name almost identical to the current governor is virtually nonexistent. They also nominated their character AFTER the current governor was nominated, making it impossible for them to have no knowledge of the other, preexisting, character. Those actions show clear planning and intent.

While we can only guess at their intent, it seems pretty obvious as to what it is: confuse GL players and/or trick them into voting for the wrong (and by wrong I mean not the one they intended to vote for) person.

And while I have no doubt that the current governor will be reelected, whomever handles these issues needs to think about the implications of what is happening. Because if it happens once and the perpetrator (for lack of a better word) does not face ramifications (even as minor as being removed from the ballot), it most certainly will happen again.

That´s how this group operates.

Not long ago when things didn´t go their way on Siege one of them started to rage ranting in GC (thanks for the chuckles btw).
In an attempt to show how "powerful" he was he said "I enjoy trolling people of shards". And from what I´ve seen from the rest of their crew that pretty much sums up their mindset/behaviour.

To be clear, I have nothing against the guild as a whole. I have not interacted with them in a group capacity (with the exception of EM events,) and cannot speak to their actions as a guild. I can only speak of what I have personally seen and experienced (with a select few guild members) in gen chat and at various locations around the shard.

A few words about being Governor, Focus on those that enjoy it. Players understand that some people take pleasure in ruining things others work on(This is a sad truth of life and gaming) and they will support you double once they see you dismiss their(problem players) actions. Careful not to fuel them by giving them what they want. They will normally get bored when they get no response and leave... It always makes me feel bad for this type of player that they can't find anything else to entertain them. I am glad i do not have this problem as i'm easily amused. hahah

Another way to divert these players is to trade off hosting duties. I seems to attract more of these players than the others i set up events with. So, I have taken a backseat for the time being to take some of the pressure off me. It seems to be somewhat effective.

Everyone should realize and it has been mentioned in the past. Just because you are voted in as governor, doesn't necessarily mean you will remain governor. Lord Blackthorn (aka the shard EMs) already have the authority to change or remove elected governors if needed. A griefer probably wouldn't last a whole hour in office.

Mithryl Elves popped on so quickly because I asked someone who knows him to tell him what was going on, Tami had already named him specifically on gen chat on GL, Since the claim against both of us is a complete load of bull, I thought that Mithryl should get a chance to defend himself. Thank you @Mithryl Elves, sorry to drag into this.

I also now have a cavalcade of screenshots of DC's Dot's, thanks for making a rather solid case for harassment.

In fact, her is a screenshot of the fake one that's on the ballot

Kinda hard to claim its not intentional impersonation/harassment when she's dressed nearly identically to me.

After reading this whole thread, I have to say the EC screen shot on the paper-doll rules compared to the CC.

UO always had this issue. Where other games have fixed this issue (names) it still exists in UO. This will continue to be an issue until its really fixed and at this stage of the game I highly doubt it will ever be. RG is to blame since it was his creation, not EA.

Having read the posts here I am real glad I play on Europa!. Sure we have our griefers and scripters just like everyone else but the scale of this is ridiculous. Atlantic would definitely not be for me.

The actions of a few do not reflect the nature of an entire community. This is something I know from experience.

More pathetic then buying votes last election cycle?
Murdock ur in DC aren't you? Because they tried on ICQ and in Gen Chat to buy votes and I still have the logs to prove it. It backfired on them because I got so tired of them spamming for votes that I literally stopped what I was doing, logged on Great Lakes and voted for Dot and I don't even know the guy. What they did this election they should get banned for. EA can probably tell which accounts are theirs and should make an example out of them before others try to do what they did and this gets way out of hand. And while their at it they should make voting one vote per account.

You want people to believe anyone in DC would do business with Mythryl Elves?

I lolled at that one
Thats not what he's saying. DC members did ICQ me though asking me to vote. They were spamming their ICQ lists. What got me to Great Lakes though casting votes was DC members on ATL spamming Gen Chat for votes. It pissed me off because when I'm on I like to spam Gen Chat talking crap and making people rage. I didnt appreciate DC spamming non stop for meaningless votes.

Truth be told though DC did buy votes. Gen Chat was LIT UP with them offering gold. They would then meet people at Britain Inn and gate them to the stone, take ingots out of a packy, allow them to vote them pay them. IT BACKFIRED on them because I was annoyed by it.

Cool I wont post the messages. I've already stated what they contained. There are many players from ATL who can come here and state how "Griefter Guild" bought votes. I'm not the guy who was selling the votes as there was another guy who posted on Stratics and his thread was deleted. I'm in the middle of quitting this game so I have nothing to gain here. Trust me when I say that "Griefter Guild" is completely butthurt because of the last election and therefor they are griefting that Dot dude. It would be fun to see something actually done about it before I log onto UO and Stratics for the last time.

I went to vote, but I have to be a citizen & respected in that town to be able to vote.
Is the 2 mil being offered to players for the loyal rating for respect to vote?

I can also verify what I saw on Atlantic. Mithryl Elves and a friend of mine were in a very heated election on Atlantic-Minoc and even though we were competitors there - it seems the same issues in general chat led us to take the same actions. I also left our heated race on Atlantic and went to GL to vote for Dot to counter those that were buying votes by spamming general chat.

Personally - I don't think you should be able to vote on a shard that you do not regularly play on... but if buying cross-shard votes is allowed - then countering those on another shard is certainly acceptable.

I have removed a number of inappropriate posts.
I have observed that the usual practice of those employing dubious methods is to deflect attention from their actions by pouring scorn upon the targets of those practices. I think it is time to put an end to this debacle of a thread.
