Also, I have following questions, the refinement product, cannot combine.. only raw material? can you make the products of refinement can combine, cannot stack... take too much space and no use for low level.

Same for me - Anybody got any idea of how these are supposed to work?

Only the raw refinements of the same type. They need to be used in your backpack.

Make sure you have enough refinements of the same type to complete it for a upgrade.

Ones you sorted out your refinements and combine them you can cut down on the total you have with a lot. :)

Is the amalgamator a one time use object or can it be used repeatedly forever?

Ok, let's see - there are 4 levels (not counting Invul of course):
Defense, Hardening, Protection, Fortification.

and then there are 6 different components:
Cure, Gloss, Polish, Scour, Varnish, and Wash

and finally, there are 12 different armor types.
Bone, Chainmail, Dragon, Gargish Platemail, Gargish Stone, Hide, Platemail, Platemail Samurai, Ringmail, Studded Leather, Studded Samurai, and Woodland

So, in order to combine any of them - they must be exactly the same in Level, Component type and Armor type. Right?

A Cure of Defense Platemail will ONLY combine with another Cure of Defense Platemail. Right?

Nice to have the "amalgamator" to combine, but still way too many combos to save without stacking... Imo.
I mean, it seems to me that any craftsman that wants to keep a bunch of "possibles" to amalgamate - is going to need to have a LOT of storage space to "collect"... Crafting shouldn't require that much storage... Again, my opinion.

Has anyone even made a high level refined suit yet? i think one guy did. id love to make one, but the chance involved just isnt worth risking anything other than a crappy imbued suit.

I don't know how many others have, but I did one suit, after expending much effort in acquiring the refinements. After that, I was completely burned out. I don't bother with refinements anymore. Kyronix still refuses to address the 30%/15% nonsense which, for one, are much lower because the RNG is screwed up, and second, are far too low anyway considering how hard it is to acquire and/or amalgamate an invul refinement.

I have made over a dozen high end reforged and refined suits. It is not difficult or expensive. Do the refinements last and you can re-refine a piece if you dont get the extra bonus. There is no chance of losing a piece and you can always refine over what is on there if needed.

Geronimo, it's certainly not difficult, but it's expensive for me in terms of time. It's bad enough that the 15% chance of 5 mods means a statistical average of seven invul refinements per piece, and even more when my first 50 invul attempts got five mods just a few times.

So having read all the posts in this thread I have decided that the system requires excessive storage, is overcomplicated and non-user friendly and like with so many other 'improved' aspects of the game I will simply never bother with again.

I'm bummed that crap is now included in treasure chest loot.
Losing the ability to parry with 2h weapons tix me off more though.

Well, I like that they are included in treasure chest and mib loot. They can be worth quite a few turn-in points nowadays, so I pretty much trash them right away.

Um.. you only lose the ability to parry witb 2 handers if you imbue the Balanced property onto the weapon... You dont have to.

Ahhh. Thank you. I can now drop the negativity I was harboring in an ignorant fashion.
I got lost among the changes. Thx again.

Are there any refinements more useful than others? I've got a bag full of them that I've never used. Mainly collected from champ spawns.

There is no difference in color between the grades of refinement. That would of made it harder to make them stack. LOL

The only issue i have with the amalgamators isthe inability to clear or empty them out. I now see that if you do not have the exact number needed to combine to a higher level or else it sits there until you do. I ended up claiming a few of them and locking them down.

Yup. Extremely... just extremely poor implementation of a solid idea, and followed by a poor and frankly lazy "fix" to their laughably horrible design choices.

Said it before and I'll say it again, the choice to explode necessary items for this, what should have been a very simple system, into the (unforgivably unstackable) hundreds has got to be one of the most confusingly wrong design choices I have ever seen.

Refinement should have been 15 stackable items. One for Tailoring, one for Carpentry, one for Smithing, and 5 power levels. 30 TOPS if you felt you absolutely had to split the resist/dci option into two pieces of art, which I personally don't think you need do.

If it had been introduced that way it would have been a popular and frequently used system. As is, its fringe at best, and still takes a billion years to make a good suit.

They just love to force a grind too much I guess. Can't miss an opportunity to turn something simple into a year long process.

Needs to be in your pack along with the items you are combining. Double click the Refinement Algamobobermeratorer (hehe) and click the refinement(s). Only works on RAW refinements (which is stupid, because of this i just threw out over 2300 refinements that were already "finished" and thus could not be combined).

Can we remove the requirement for armor specific? for example, let the cure do studded, studded samurai, bone, and hide -- instead of making it 4 separate.. I still haven't gotten enough for my suit yet.. not with all the different types

This verbalizes the way I feel about this and a few other concepts that have been introduced to the game (Despise revamp, Covetous revamp/Void Pool... ).

I would love to utilize the refinement system and pull out my pom poms and cheer the devs on but... :wall:

The way I see it is to be a top-notch crafter you need a house with plenty of room. I only deal in the studded leather refinements so the rest I don't bother keeping, which keeps the storage down. I agree though, they should be stackable by type.

I am curious, Zog, how the 30%/15% pertains to refinements as those are for Eater caps only, which have zero to do with the refinements. Can you please take a moment to explain?

I have tons of experience with reforging and refining afterwards, with a portfolio of about 50 high-end PvP (a couple PvP ones are probably in the top 5 within the game as a whole), a couple dozen Sampire suits , and a ga-jillion 'modest' suits. With that said I am willing to share info and will also help clear things up, like the comment above.

If anyone wants to see some of my suits I have two on display (not the best I have but still fantastic!) in my Chessy Luna house, N/E corner. I also take special orders for custom-made, template-matched leather/studded human/elf suits. So far I have a 100% satisfaction rate!

The odds of 15% and 30% are for getting the "bonus" mod: 30% for Protection through Fortification, and only a 15% chance for invulnerability to get that fifth mod.

I find it unfortunate that you can not combine refinements after being combined with the corresponding ingredients. I have 100's all made up and not much i can do with them anymore. Also, it's a shame they don't stack. They do end up taking up a large amount of space, even if you do combine them since there are so many different varieties

Is there any way to empty / clear the Amalgamator? And better with saving the containing refinment.
This is MUST.
I missed the target once & now what? - buy anotherAmalganator or wait until you got 2 more uber-rare refinment

Not as far as I know. I've had to get a couple of extra when not realizing I didn't have as many of a refinement as I thought.
