tina is right but some of the barrels dont need lp if you stand there long enough the odds are you can fill a spell book in a bit

Given how they have implemented the fix for "duped" items on vendors, (which only works for specific items, well known duped items are still easily put on vendors, and the team has been called on it, and responded with silence) I have little confidence they will be able to put together a vendor search that is nearly as effective as the 3rd party alternatives. If they do it and do it well, I will use it. If not, the alternative works very well and is as much as a boon to the community as UO Assist, in my opinion (and it is free to use). Time will tell, but time keeps marching.
Personally I find it ironic how two faced 90% of these posts are. People will post about how these vendors and the books have "ruined UO", but there are several "respected" members of the stratics community that sells gold for cash and no one says anything about those players.
Personally I say let people buy/sell gold. Really it is a new way to attract a new group of players, both buyers and sellers.

I will be frank, I have bought gold. I have never sold it, but I have purchased it. In many cases it has been from respected members of "the community".
I have purchased items, xfer tokens in particular, from 3rd party sites. I have done this because EA has rejected my credit card / debit card, even though they are the same ones that they charge monthly for my ten accounts. The 3rd party sites also give incentives to continuing to purchase from them, much in the same vein as EA's Asian sites.
I am not trying to advocate for third party sites, but if EA is in the business to make money, and collect money from your customers, and you make it hard or impossible to do so, anyone who can provide a like service without those challenges is going to prevail. I am not denying that they may somehow be in possession of ill-gotten gains / goods. If the company that I pay monthly fees to could provide this service, there would be no discussion here. That, in my opinion is the bottom line.

We the players (I am not saying all players did this) are just as guilty as EA is for this, sorry to say that. If players did not do RMT then this would not be a problem in the first place, it takes two to tango. Anybody with a little gray matter knew darn well that those sites deal in dupes, even way back when. There is no way to collect 1 billion gold from MOBs in just a short period of time and sell it for R$, I do not care how many BOTs you run.
An in game search will help all players, esp. those of us that abuse those sites by using thier hard work but never buying from them.

It was never stated that it was allowed/DISallowed in the TOS persay back in the day and while EA knew about it they just over looked it. It wasn't until , I think it was Sony that sued and won that it was DISallowed, this was the reason EBay stopped it, TY Sony. Closing the door on the barn after so long of a time hurt UO so much that, sorry to say this, that (IMHO) EA can not afford to ban or go after these sites without looking at shutting down UO for good. UO is about Good/Evil and this is THE EVIL we have allowed to fester and until we get new players in learn to live with it.
Exactly... so many of the things that new players need have become impossible for new players to find, much less buy - which is why I'm sticking around to see what happens to UO once the Vendor Search is finally implemented.
That I can help you with. Take a positive karma character to Despise upper level and look in the barrels that are scattered throughout the level. They are not locked or trapped and they have spells in them right up to level 8s. No stealing skill required

The only thing that surprises me is that there is still a RMT market for UO. 33c/mil is nothing and hardly worth the time invested to deliver it vs. other games. =P

Nothing was done to remove the Plagues that I reported on GL, Altlanta, Sonoma. He may have removed a few but - - the war goes on.
I expect little else. It's an on-going quest with me but only in my spare time. Gates to one-tile traps that players can find around buc's den/cave and Trinsic, are fun to hunt for and mark. I teleport to the spot and mark, then test a Gate to it: If I can't turn around and walk through a gate once there, that rune is good for gating Robots. Robots have returned through some of my gates, but if the gate gets past a certain time limit, the robots are stuck permanently and can't recall out. Thus a delay while new robots are created. Players dropping books can only be targeted and reported.
= So again, I encourage others to take up the sport. It can be fun. Results with just a few doing it can be seen. What if MANY players helped when they have a few minutes to spare?

Ah thanks. Now I know why I haven't seen the scrolls in those barrels and chests. I never made a lock-pick. TM used to do that for me when I got the Paragon Greater Dragon Chests on Sonoma... hmm.. I need a warrior/lockpick/stealther on Atlantic?
Well, being 15 years older, when I read Petra Fyde's post about scrolls in Despise, I couldn't remember gettung them from barrels or chests in Despise. On some monsters, yes.
Your post clears up my FEAR of having recent memory loss. I never could open those barrels /chests. So I didn't forget anything. Just didn't have a Lockpick. lol

hmm, unless it varies from shard to shard, while the crates are locked and trapped, the barrels are not - in Tram at least, on Europa.

Right, you can reach right into the barrels in Despise and take stuff out without needing stealing skill. Unfortunately, some of the barrels are located behind other objects, and all you can do is drool over the spell scroll inside that you desperately need but cannot remove. The Despise crates, on the other hand, have to be unlocked somehow and traps removed from them (unless you're willing to just reach in and remove stuff and take the damage from the trap). Again, some of the crates are located behind other objects and that prevents you from removing the items that spawned in them.
You can also find up to circle 8 spell scrolls in the "static" chests in other dungeons. I found two resurrection spell scrolls in the static chests on the NW corner of Shame level 3 last night.

Or.....you can stop at my shop on Atlantic. I always carry level 4 thru 8 spell scrolls on the vendors. It's in the swamps of Trinsic. Come out of the gate and go south...ish..lol

Dear Petra Fyde and Tina Small .. you both have my curiousity up so high, I will be heading for Despise to hunt those scrolls. Must do some lumberjacking to gain strength to carry them all. On Sonoma my characters can combat high level monsters for high level scrolls, but as a newbie on Atlantic, this should be interesting and fun. THANKS! (- - more time going to be spend in the game again today if I don't shut down and get out in the beautiful sunshine RIGHT NOW!!! *waves .. but first must add more to this message:

To be fair and honest, I let two much appreciated, generous UO Veterans on Atlantic help me out. Usually I am the Giver on Sonoma and not the Recipient. One fellow escorted me to your shop, marked runes, and gave me rune books, made me friend of his house and offered to help with anything else I might need. The other gave me a LRC suit, enough gold to place a house, some city/gatebooks and escorted me to your shop. Their generosity was too much to resist as a newbie on Atlantic. I even had to tell the one fellow to stop giving me items because the next he would be playing the game for me too. But seriously, if he should be reading this, THANK YOU! I am going to make a scribe now, can go to Rachel's shop for quite a few things that I will need!
I want to eventually payback both players but one said, "You don't have to pay me back. You do the same on Sonoma so it's your turn to enjoy it here".
