That pretty much sums up my feelings about UO as of late.
Really, no joke.
Okay, let me explain why, and Mods please refrain from whipping out your "Might Mace of Troll Bashing"...PLEASE.
First the account migration from TATARUS, I mean seriously who does an account migration WITHOUT back ups in place? I did a job back in 2007 where I over saw the migration and implementation of the company's accounting books from Microsoft Money Plus to Microsoft Accounting Professional. I am sure to many of you that sounds very easy, but it is not.
Before we unleashed the SQL based M.A.P. on the company it was done on one computer and the Money Plus books were maintained until it was clear that all the kinks were beat out of M. A. P.
Why on earth didn't EA handle the account sever migration in similar fashion? Instead they unleashed the migration without testing! From all I have read not just here in the UO forums but in DAOC and Warhammer forums too it was like a massive DOS attack on the playerbase.
Fast forward to December...Someone at EA decides it would be a brillant idea to migrate the UOCodestore to Origin Store. One might think they might have learned from recent events, alas they did not!
I have been told the definition of insanity is to repeatedly run into a brick wall and expect different results each time. Well I am certainly questioning the sanity of not only whoever is in charge of the Codestore migrating but Mr. Salaski's for allowing it to proceed WITHOUT A BACKUP in place.
Seriously Mr. Salaski, why did you sign off on this without a backup?
Now people are buying codes that do not work and EA's Award Winning customer support is about as helpful as letting the air out of your car tires in the name better gas mileage!
If they wanted us all to leave then why not close the servers and be done about it? Why waste the time, energy and man power to torture us with these ridiculous "migrations"?
IMHO, EA has opened themselves wide up to a class action lawsuit, and deservedly so. First with the account migration mess, and now with the codestore selling bad codes. I have only heard one person say they got a refund. Last time I checked to charge someone's creditcard for goods or services then not to give it to them is illegal..by American law anyways.
I fear this is the beginning of the end for UO.
Well UO, it was a good ride cowboy, I'm just sorry it's had to end so badly.
